Just adding my two cents in here..... not wanting to argue politics, but just want my voice out there.
Anyone who had any knowledge of Trump at all, knew he was a businessman not a politician. I didn't like the man from what I knew of him, he has a lot of flaws and I thought he was a pr--- , but yet I voted for him because I thought he was a better choice than Clinton..... a much better choice.
I still think he's a pig. But a patriotic pig. A pig who loves his country and wants the best for this nation. He still has flaws, but flaws and all - he is doing what he can to help this country.
I think we should keep him.

Lindy good to see you again my friend.  I can understand how this would appear to you.  But for those of us that have recognized the history of the poster we tend to be a little more defensive of our religion and beliefs.

After reading numerous posts, and the different opinions, feelings, and statements vs scriptural facts; I just want to add this to the quarrels over who is right, who is wrong and who cares more.....
We ALL have our own opinions on different things, different views, different speculations, and discussion is all good until one persons opinion is vilified because he has a different view of something, and then it's open season on that one person"s every opinion or statement.
Debate is good, discussions are good, but not when it's the mentality of 'let's tear Rob Osborn apart on anything he says'. I don't get it- It just doesn't seem right.
I was used to the older site and I haven't gotten all the bells and whistles figured out with this newer one, so I don't know how to move quotes around within my posting, and don't know how to do the blue highlight name thing- but I love the quote from Johnson Jones, and intend to copy it down and stick it in my scriptures. It's a great quote. Thank you Johnson Jones for sharing.

How to do the blue highlight name thing:
While holding down the @ key on your device, start to write the name of the person you are referring to. As you write their name, a drop down list with a series of names with similar spelling will appear and then you just choose which name you want to use. Like this:

To those that might be lurking and reading this thread:  "Some" of the comments are merely personal opinion and not taught by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
To those in this thread...if you are going to state something as opinion please say that it is your opinion only.  Do not post it as if it is fact and true doctrine.
    Thank you.

IT SHOCKS me at the number who are willing to tear down the John and try to disbelieve what he wrote.  Or to wrest with the scriptures to try to state something they do not.
The scriptures state (and it was not corrected by the JST as far as I know) that Judas was declared a Son of Perdition.  They state that he was a traitor and betrayed our Lord.
Now you can either use that, or you can say we do not know, that only the Lord is the judge.
To say otherwise seems very similar to trying to wrest the scriptures to have them say something exactly opposite of what they do.  John is VERY plain and straightforward.  Even Luke and other scriptures are pretty clear on the problems with Judas Iscariot.
For another explanation that I think is pretty clear, but NOT from the Church...and thus it IS the opinion of whoever wrote the item...
    Doctrine and Covenants 76
And from Doctrine and Covenants 76 which uses the wording that it would be better they had not been born...
Thus we can see that Judas crucified him, not just would, but actually DID (far more than any other in this life, including Cain who tried to end the line from which to Lord came, but could not actually cause the Lord's crucifixion...which Judas did).  As verse 31 he suffered himself to become overcome by the adversary and to deny the truth and power of the Lord to the point of denying him for 30 pieces of silver.
This answer was already given explicitly in this thread over 5 years ago.  Why then do we try to find excuse on this once again?
What is next, we start trying to excuse Cain?
We can either agree with the Lord and all he has said on the matter or we can leave it blank and say it is the Lord who judges...but to speak against the Lord and his statements?
Are we Saints and followers of Jesus Christ or are we followers of Judas?
I, for one, believe and follow Jesus Christ and trust the words of his apostles and disciples in the New Testament as well as that of the Book of Mormon and the Revelations of the Prophets in our Modern times.
If there is more to come on the matter than it will be revealed by the Lord in his own due time, but for now, on this matter I accept that John wrote it correctly and that the Lord said what he said.  I trust that the Lord MEANT what he said and that this path of trying to prove Judas was otherwise, for now, unless the Lord states something different, is a path that is NOT a good one for someone to pursue.

I'm not even convinced that Judas is unsalvageable. The man was a zealot. He believed that Jesus was the Messiah, in the sense of rescuing the Jews from Roman rule. It's entirely plausible that he acted from a position of misguided faith and was convinced that turning Jesus over would spark the revolution. In other words, he was trying to help move things along without fully comprehending Christ's plan and purpose. If we are to believe the scriptures, he wasn't unique in that regard among the disciples.
As for John's statement, the Gospel of John was written decades later by someone purporting to be the Apostle John,  but the authorship isn't decisively affirmed. Furthermore, we never hear Judas's side of the story, and the statements against his spiritual welfare may originate in the bitterness the disciples felt toward Judas, not necessarily from the feelings of Christ.
I'm not so strong in my opinions as to say Judas Iscariot is doomed or redeemable. I think we'd be wise to leave that to Christ and, instead, open our minds and hearts to the lessons we can learn from either interpretation.

This thread is from years ago, and though I may not agree with many of Rob's thoughts, I do agree on one facet he stated.  In this, that the answer was given already above.  It was stated DIRECTLY by the LORD.
In this, Judas was declared to be a Son of Perdition by the very individual who is the judge who decides these things.  If the Lord himself stated it, who are we to contest it?
Luckily it is the LORD who is the judge, not I.  The final fate of Judas Iscariot is up to HIS judgment...not mine.

We do not have the writings from the bible in its entirety, so there could perhaps be scriptures that go along with Judas's fate from the apostles or Christ himself.

Should I discover some day that Judas is in the Celestial Kingdom (heaven) -- My plan is to forgive, forget and move on as though nothing ever happened. Should anyone deny heaven over this or any other resident of heaven - I still plan to stay. No protest from me. In fact I plan to be friends with everybody in the CK that will consider it.

I've wondered too. Taylor Caldwell wrote a book called "I, Judas" which is a book based on the gospel of Judas which is in the Catholic archives. She had already written Great Lion of God (about Peter) and Dear and Glorious Physician (about Luke). She wrote them as historical fiction. I have read Great Lion of God and Dear and Glorious Physician 2-3 times over the last 40 years. Taylor Caldwell has access to the Catholic archives to write these books.
I was in a used paperback book store about a decade or so ago and found "I, Judas." I got about half way through the 2nd chapter and had such a bad feeling that I had to stop reading. I tried again few weeks later to resume reading because I hate to not finish a book and I just couldn't read it. Stupor of thought kicked in and the bad feeling came back. So I traded the book for another one. Then a few years ago (of course I forgot about it - I suffer from Brain Fog frequently) I ran into the book again, bought it and tried to read it. This time when the bad feeling came (really dark bad feeling) I just threw the book away.
What I concluded is that what we should know of Judas is in the scriptures we have. We don't need to know more in his life. There has to be a reason Heavenly Father hasn't "inspired" someone to include in the King James version of the Bible.
Personally, I'm now content to never know. The bad feeling was that bad.

The WORST thing about eating out is that most places maximize profit by charging a premium for delicious, unhealthy crap.  Let's  face it - it's expensive to heat healthy.  Much more so than eating the usual carbohydrate and salt loaded offerings.  I can get 20 chicken nuggets at Burger King for $2.  That's right.  10 cents a nugget.  How much was that cobb salad at the deli?  Oh, right... At least $6.  Oh, you wanted some dressing in a cup on the side of that?  50 cents more.
Oh, and let's not forget that market research and profit/cost analysis means the seasoning on those nuggets just happens to harmonize quite nicely with those Coca-Cola products.  Cheap nuggets and a 20 oz. cup of liquid candy.  The only good thing we can say about that is they usually pack in so much ice you're "lucky" to get 12oz of actual cola.  Want fries with that?  You know you do.  They're powdered with crack lots of salt.  Now you're thirstier.  Better upsize that cola or you're gonna be slurping melted ice and still wishing you had another.
How much did you just spend?  Still probably less than that cobb salad cost with a bottle of water on the side.  Fills you up more, too.  G'head.  Buy the salad and try to hide the tears as you wish you could tear into something meatier, especially 2 hours after you're done with lunch and ready to eat again, knowing that you'd still feel full if you'd eaten the combo meal at BK.  Full and miserable and welcome to the 21st Century, where marketing is at the very peak of its power with all the data we give them by using the Internet and cell phones and watching YouTube and they know exactly where to hit us.
I work in a building right next to a shopping mall and a full fledged food court.  If I go out to  lunch it's a simple walk across a parking lot and directly into the food court entrance, the heart of the beast... and every time I do I hear a twisted version of "Be Our Guest" like some kind of nightmarish musical production...

Be our guest, be our guest, put away that chicken breast
here now you can have a burger while you fail your diet test
have some fries, have some wings, eat all kinds of nasty things
Even salads come with fat dressing so it's healthy with no strings!
We have beef, we have fish, not a single healthy dish
For when we get done with cooking it, it serves your craving's wish
Gaining weight?  Fill your plate! There's more space for what you ate
And be sure to leave room for dessert so try it do not wait....

Yeah... I could so this all day.  Remember that scene in the oooooold Raggedy Anne and Andy cartoon with the giant blob candy monster?  Yeah, that's how it feels to walk past the friggin' Cinnabon.
I don't go to the mall for lunch anymore.
If I do go out, I drive a couple miles to get pho.  It costs a bit more and is more hassle, but at least I can eat something without hating myself for it.
Mostly for lunch I just have leftovers and sadness.

Those are not my claims, those are your weird interpretations of what I've posted.
    Bottom line:
Alcoholism is indeed about alcohol abuse and dependence (drinking too much daily).
Alcoholism is NOT about being a jerk after drinking moderately. People can be jerks without alcohol too.
Alcoholism cannot be cured but it can be treated. There is the potential for an alcoholic to relapse after stopping the habitual drinking. So even after stopping, an alcoholic is still an alcoholic.

“Bigot”, like “racist”, has degenerated into an epithet that is virtually meaningless; and in their heart of hearts most Americans know it.  As conservatives, we shouldn’t dignify those terms—or the people who use them against us—by seeking to turn them back on our accusers.  The best response is to a cool, unruffled “I don’t even know what that means”, and then stare them down like the intellectual dwarves that they are.
