This idea is problematic though, because whether truth seems simple to us or not depends on us, not on truth. Truth is what it is. For one it will come easy, for another, not so much. How simple do you think truth seems to someone who was raised Hindu or Muslim?

But, more importantly, what you're talking about is not truth. Truth is factual. Truth never changes. What you're reading about is a bunch of conjecture based on evidence, none of which can even be described as fact. But even where evidence is strong enough to accept certain historical ideas as probably factual, they are still only tools to develop conjecture that is viewed through a pretty muddy lens.  There are conjectures that support the church and there are conjectures that do not. You have to determine which conjecture you're going to listen to. But none of that is "truth".

What is truth? Truth is eternal. It is things as they really are. And the only one who know these things is God. Therefore, the only means we have of ascertaining absolute truth is through God by way of the Holy Spirit. The truths you learn from the Spirit you can trust. The so-called truths you've picked up from a bunch of filtered, anti-LDS mortals are highly untrustworthy.

That is why the strong suggestion you will get throughout from faithful members, even from those of us who disagree with each other on many things, is to turn to the witness of the Spirit in your quest for truth.

Because truth is simple. The Book of Mormon is true or it is not. Joseph Smith was a prophet or he wasn't. The church is true or it is not. And a study of history will not give you the answers to any of these questions. You can only know the truth of these things from the Spirit.

Perhaps the primary song is referring to the analogy of faith as a mustard seed in Matt 17:20?

Respectfully, in my opinion, this is inaccurate. Faith does not drive action. That is the typical LDS reading of "faith without works is dead", like they're two separate entities and one is dead without the action. But I read it that faith is dead without works in the same way the soul is dead without both body and spirit. The two make up the soul. And so it is without action. Faith is not faith without action, just the same as faith is not faith without believe. In point of fact, I believe that action is more important to faith than belief is. I can have belief issues and still act in faith. I cannot, however, believe and fail to act and still call it faith.

Accordingly, almost the opposite of your statement is true. (Not literally, of course. It wouldn't make total sense to say that action drives to faith. But to state the action renders faith might be viable.)

No.  Ice cream is based on dairy, containing nearly 50% of it.  Sherbet is based on fruit puree and only contains up to 2% dairy.  Sorbet has zero dairy.

By not being as active as you could, you are kind of advertising that you have neither the time nor the inclination for a calling. Most callings take some sort of time commitment. I would suggest you reactivate yourself and become more involved. As anatess suggested in her excellent post, you can volunteer for something or ask your bishop for a calling--letting him know what sort of calling you are willing and able to do.

I hope you read this post in the kindness it is meant and it does not sound too accusatory. I tried to be careful in my wording, Wishing you the best. :)

You can go to the bishop, but you can also go to the Relief Society president and tell her you want to be a visiting teacher. Then serve your sisters. Get to know your VT companion well and befriend her (whether she joins you in visits or not).

The last LDS non-fiction book i read was The Autobiography of Parley P. Pratt.  This was such a good book for me to read.  I don't consider myself too ignorant on church history, but there was something special and amazing about reading this first-hand account.  It was particularly poignant through the Missouri period as he was there through it all.  I learned a lot i didn't know about this man.  I didn't realize what a fan he was of logic and debate, and yet he had such an innate spirituality (not that those things are mutually exclusive).  I really enjoyed this book.
