  1. Respectively? You mean in some kind of order? M.
  2. But you are not specifically saying what value it does have. In your opinion, what value does opening prayer bring to a meeting? M.
  3. @anatess2, since you won't answer @MarginOfError's question. Does that mean you do NOT know what value opening prayer brings to a meeting? M.
  4. I just watched a Steven Spielberg movie called Ready Player One. It's set in the future, 2045, with people living in a crappy real world and a more exciting virtual world called Oasis. There's good guys and bad guys and it was very enjoyable. I recommend it. M.
  5. I read the link you provided and I disagree with your interpretation of what this bill says. This bill allows a person convicted of an offence against a minor to seek discretionary relief from having to register as a sex offender if the age difference between offender and minor is not more than 10 years. This bill in no way decriminalizes pedophilia. M.
  6. Wow! Can you give us a reference for this alleged law? M.
  7. How your kids act in church is beside the point. You said you don't have young kids. If 8 years old isn't young, then what is it? You could have said you don't have babies or toddlers, that would be truthful. M.
  8. You don't think 8 years old is young? M.
  9. Actually it was Frankie Valli (or maybe it was Barry Gibb). ๐Ÿ˜Š M.
  10. I'm just curious. What part of the Lord's Prayer do you not believe in? M.
  11. That could be true, but sometimes it's hard to tell. I've read some of Vort's posts where his words are kind and thoughful. And then I have to ask myself, "Is he being sincere or sarcastic?" M.
  12. @DennisTate, for many decades now the COJCOLDS church time on Sundays was three hours long. Starting this year, church time on Sundays is now 2 hours long. So since that 3rd hour is no longer spent on Sundays at church, members of this forum can spend it here. ๐Ÿ˜Š M.
  13. To start learning, sure. I met my LDS friend in high school. She invited me to many church activities, youth dances, camping, halloween activity, road show, etc which eventually led to taking the discussions when I was 17. My parents would not give permission for baptism and I was forbidden from attending church. My friend and I of course stayed friends, still went to dances (which were great during my adolescence). About 18 months after not getting baptized, I changed my mind and did not want to join the church anymore. My friend and I eventually married brothers, both brought up Mormon, but her husband loved the church and my husband did not. I will always be connected with the church due to extended family, nieces and nephews, etc. I also started reading more church history books, like Mormon Enigma: Emma Hale Smith (wonderful book). Which showed how truly interesting "Mormon" church history is. As time goes on I keep learning. M.
  14. Seriously? From what I can tell Living Scriptures is a very pro-Latter-day Saint company. They cater specifically to Latter-day Saints. They are one of the good guys. I'm always surprised by this suspicious attitude. If it's not official or affiliated, it must not be good. Ridiculous. This forum is not affiliated with "your Church" @Barrett Maximus, but you still come here. M.
  15. He's The Jerk and The Man with two Brains. ๐Ÿ˜Š M.
  16. Yes, the wording on some of the questions was a little tricky. M.
  17. Under Donny Osmond's face, it says: Click "View Results" to finish the quiz! (This counts as a freebie towards your score. You're welcome.) M.
  18. I got 11 out of 11. There was a freebie point. M.
  19. Those are not my claims, those are your weird interpretations of what I've posted. Bottom line: Alcoholism is indeed about alcohol abuse and dependence (drinking too much daily). Alcoholism is NOT about being a jerk after drinking moderately. People can be jerks without alcohol too. Alcoholism cannot be cured but it can be treated. There is the potential for an alcoholic to relapse after stopping the habitual drinking. So even after stopping, an alcoholic is still an alcoholic. M.
  20. The "can't stop" and quantity go hand in hand. That's what causes the large quantity consumption, the inability to stop drinking at a minimal amount. And I had mentioned in an earlier post that alcoholics who are able to stop drinking still identify as an alcoholic. M.
  21. Sorry, you're wrong. 8 drinks per day, means 56 per week, that is an alcoholic. He can function just fine in everyday life, but if he can't stop drinking large amounts of alcohol each day, he is an alcoholic. There could be many reasons why this person is an a**hole. The alcohol could effect his personality, he could have mental health issues, or maybe he is just a really nasty person. But because he drinks a minimal amount of alcohol per week, he is not an alcoholic. This guy will not be welcomed, not because he's an alcoholic who can't admit it yet, but because he's causing a disruption with the meeting. Anyone doing that, no matter what their problems are, would not be welcomed. His liver was diseased due to the amount of alcohol he drank daily. M.
  22. Then you would be wrong. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) describes alcohol use disorder as "problem drinking that becomes severe." A person with this condition does not know when or how to stop drinking. They spend a lot of time thinking about alcohol, and they cannot control how much they consume, even if it is causing serious problems at home, work, and financially. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/157163.php I would be interested in seeing some references that might make this true. If you're referring to binge drinking, that still involves a lot of alcohol in a short period of time. And people can have problems in their lives without alcohol involvement. Yes, there are people who can be described as functioning alcoholics. They can hold a job, have good family and friend relationships but still abuse alcohol. I checked the webpage of AA in my city and it says that if a person wants to become a member they would have to want to stop drinking, but if a person who knows they have a drinking problem wishes to attend a meeting, they would be welcomed. M.
  23. I was curious about this, so did some reading and it appears that some bodies can leak; so the plastic film is because of leakage. M.
