  1. Sometimes, even if one has a permit, carrying a gun to a family function could be a bad idea if the family doesn't always get along.
  2. I agree, it just makes you human. If you think it might be an issue, maybe you should move your wedding date closer, or if you feel like eloping, Las Vegas has a LDS temple.
  3. I basically got an informal marriage proposal on a first date. Let's just say I ended things with that person, and almost had to get a restraining order to get him to get the hint. I was fully prepared to follow through with that threat, and I still am, but since this guy knew he'd be fired on the spot, he has left me alone.
  4. One nice thing about non-LDS churches is that people can chose to go to another congregation if they have issues with their local group. I'm saying that since the only ways a LDS person can switch is if they actually move to another area, or if they're single, get married.
  5. One thing I do like about visiting Las Vegas is that the CEO of Chick fil a considers it too sinful of a place to allow franchises of his restaurant. That's why those in the area have to go to a neighboring state if they agree with the chain.
  6. I'm from the Christian tradition of Lent, which is the 40 days of reflection and making sacrifices to prepare for Easter, which is the most important day in the calendar. We do observe Good Friday, but that's because in order for the Atonement to happen, Christ had to die for humanity's sins before He could be resurrected. Most other Christians also know that Christ is God in human form, and that there's also the Father, and the Holy Spirit to make up the complete Trinity.
  7. Here's the actual opinion: http://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/11pdf/11-393c3a2.pdf
  8. This is a serious pet peeve of mine, as earlier this month, someone who was texting almost hit me head on in my own neighborhood.
  9. I'm not LDS, but my guess is that people only get excommunicated if they're not repentant, or are found to be practicing polygamy. I could be wrong, but while you were baptized in another church, it might not be enough for excommunication since it's obvious you really want to return to the LDS church. As the LDS church teaches that its own baptism is the only valid one, your baptism technically doesn't count since you never had your name removed from the LDS church's records.
  10. One thing I do know is that if someone is divorced in California and they want to marry someone else, if it's less than 2 years after the divorce was final, the decree is needed in order to get the license. Any time after that, and only the date the divorce was finalized would be sufficient. After all, LDS couples still need to apply for the civil marriage license before they go to the temple, even for a first marriage.
  11. One thing about LARPing is that most games have a strict rule against physical contact while in character. At least, that's what I've experienced as a gamer geek, and plenty of players were married, but their spouse wasn't into gaming. Personally, I think that trust is an important part of marriage, and that includes things like e-mail and Facebook passwords. I even consider someone asking for a password to be a red flag of potential abuse, and for me, it's a deal breaker in a relationship. It's one thing to have joint accounts for e-mail and Facebook, but it's also nice to have private accounts, especially if one uses e-mail for work.
  12. As others have mentioned, there's more to Vegas than drinking and gambling. The surrounding area has a significant LDS population, as Mormons were the ones who founded it in the first place since it was halfway between the Salt Lake valley and the settlements in California.
  13. I love the Reese's eggs, but in southern California, we have a local candy store chain, See's Candies that makes excellent chocolate truffle filled eggs, and their own jelly beans that you have to buy early because they sell out fast.
  14. You could also get that bumper sticker that says, "Yes this is my truck. No, I won't help you move!" For me, I prefer to hire professionals to help me move, as it helps them keep their jobs.
  15. I agree, plus anyone else would know who to avoid getting in a relationship with, especially if they were interested in marriage.
  16. This is really sad, and hits home for me since I at least escaped someone who viewed me as his own property, but it could have ended like this case.
  17. I'm part of the minority that is glad about this decision, as while I'm heterosexual, I'm secure enough in my sexuality to support the right of homosexuals to get married.
  18. One thing I haven't mentioned before is that I have step family members who were raised in the LDS church, but decided of their own free will that it's not the church for them. Even then, they're not bitter at all, and still get along great with those family members who are devoutly LDS. Back to the original topic, whatever the OP decides is up to him. If he decides to remain active in the LDS church, that's great. If he decides that the church isn't for him, that's fine as well, and according to a certain Article of Faith, those who are LDS should allow him to follow his own conscience. That's what the LDS members in my step family have done, as they have never asked my mom who married an exmo, or myself why we haven't converted.
  19. The vast majority of pedophiles are heterosexual males, even if their victims are boys. Anyway, no matter what, you should get tested for every STD out there, since heterosexual couples also do anal sex. In my situation, I was fortunate that all of my STD tests came back negative, since I think my ex-husband did cheat on me, with a woman.
  20. I go camping twice a year, and part of the trip for me is being able to unplug for the few days I'm outdoors.
  21. I'm not surprised that people here are jumping on this. It's not going to change anything either way, since Prohibition was a massive failure when it was tried, and as a result of it's epic fail, it was repealed.
  22. Hopefully this will lead to more rapes being reported, such as in cases where a man is raped by a woman.
  23. I thought this deserved its own thread. US redefines rape to count more people as victims
  24. I would think doctors have gotten used to seeing naked bodies as part of their profession that they don't picture a patient naked if they see them outside of their office, and that would include church. If a doctor happens to be a LDS bishop or other leader, it's more likely that he only focuses on his spiritual role when he's doing the duties of those positions.
