Obama and Transparency: No More Need for Limbaugh
talisyn replied to Elphaba's topic in Current Events
I agree that the market should have been allowed to correct itself. The best thing Congress should have done was to repeal the law passed in about 2001 that allowed banks to go into the sub-prime market in the first place. There is no business too big to fail, especially businesses that have proven inept in the marketplace (financial Darwinism isn't necessarily a bad thing). I like Obama, I think he'll be a good president. I almost wish McCain had been elected though, then he could had dealt with the mess started before Obama was even elected to the Senate. -
OP, you live in Europe, that's what, 16 countries smashed together? My sister (single and cute, btw) is in Germany right now and she's managed to go all over the place, a few weeks ago it was Paris, a month before that Switzerland (i'm dying of jealousy, can you tell? :) ). Take advantage of your location. I do think praying and relying on God for direction is the right thing to do. The mid-twenties is rough, that's when I lost my way a bit, and believe me you don't want to go where I went. Date members, keep dating members, and if I may, please remember the sisters who require a second (or third or fourth) look. Sweet spirit can go a long way when it comes to eternal companionship.

Or what sins has someone committed that directly affected her? After all, Job had a heck of a time and yet he did nothing to deserve it.

Idaho is stiff competition in this contest.

Do you consider amendments to be part of the Federal Constitution?

May I remind you the current administration has been in office a total of 29 days. 29 DAYS! It hasn't even been a month yet. 29 days. I cannot stress this enough..... 29 days

While I dislike capitalism and communism and politics and wish the perfect world would get here already (it seems to be taking it's time, probably stopped for a happy meal) I have to say this is a great climate to teach kids to watch for 'spin' on news. My daughter and I watch a few different news channels and we have a contest to see where the angle is in the actual news segments. The commentaries are also good in that you can point out what is fact and what's opinion and how the two mix, no matter what your personal politics are. Kids are growing up in very tough times (like they always do in every generation) and need every tool they can get. Education is key!

I don't have one either, it's cash or I don't need it that bad lol. Can you believe Wal-Mart checks your credit if you apply there? I don't think my current employer does, though. Probably cause it's Canadian, they're nice people

A bee rapture? Thank you, now I have something to think about at work tonight!

Oh come on people, Obama is not the antichrist or even the antirepublican. He is actively trying to work with reps, and who is not cooperating? Who does not want to work together? Yeah that's what I thought lol. Out of all presidents I've seen in the past 37 years or so Pres. Obama seems to be the only one who actually wants America to be the best, instead of maintaining the status quo. No, wait, Reagan also was like that too. Remember? There is no marxist revolution. What there seems to be is a bunch of people bitter that all a 2 term rep president and 6 years of rep controlled congress managed to achieve is the obliteration of capitalism. Politics is a cycle. We had 8 years of a rep president. We will have 4-8 years of a dem president. I guarantee we will have a rep or dem president in 4-8 years. I give kudos to Glenn Beck for making sure his fellow reps are not forgotten, but seeing as it's merely 4 weeks into the new term people need to get a grip

I hate to ask but what if he did give her the right advice?

I met my fiance in Final Fantasy IX, we got married in game almost 2 years ago haha that sounds really silly when I write it down. WoW (I tried it a bit) and FFXI have a few things in common. You have to play hours to get to higher level goodies, and then when you're high level you have to play (usually scheduled) hours more to get the higher level goodies. And then there's the feeling that if you leave a party or scheduled event you're letting your fellow players down. Yes, family is more important, but when you have the opportunity and it's been scheduled for weeks beforehand to fight a certain monster or whatever and something IRL comes up it's a letdown, to be honest. Video games for some reason make your brain release those feel-good chemicals, and then there's the sheer competition. It can be very addicting. FFXI has a screen before you log on that says basically make sure you don't neglect your family, job, and school for this game, it's not worth it. And WoW has a feature that will shut the game off after a certain amount of time has passed. These are just games, and in 5 years these game addicts will be wondering why they started playing in the first place. Moderation is key, and it took me a little bit of time to get my gaming down. I can go whole weeks without logging on, and when I do it's usually to play around with my fiance (we're talisyn and zetsuei on garuda if anyone plays lol). My advice is to persevere, keep up the reminders of why you're a family, and maybe post little lists of 'how to tell if you have an addiction' on the fridge.

Terry Pratchett and that other guy wrote a wicked book. I can't wait til my daughter is old enough to read it and understand the humor/religion/mythology. I'm afraid she's gonna want a red leather outfit and a motorcycle when she does read it. My car has gone through many disney cds. I got rid of the cd player cause these indestructible disks (remember that promise?) annoy me so I'm back to the tapes. I have scored awesome stuff from the D.I. like the Sex Pistols, Cure, Ramones, and Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, among others. I have only a few more years to give my little one a firm musical base, I don't wanna waste it with Rhianna.

But he's on Fox News, doesn't that give him more protection? I like Glenn Beck, even though we disagree on, oh, a whole bunch of stuff Good to see him taking a stand.

Turned down first job in months because had to work sundays.
talisyn replied to bcguy's topic in General Discussion
You might want to think about shift work, esp graveyard. I work 7pm-7am every other Sunday and it seems to work out ok, although I seem to get most of my nap time during Sunday School -
It was only a matter of time til you caved

Silly Sakuragirl, you are eternal, you don't have a sell-by date. Think of this as an opportunity to hack and slash the weeds that have been holding you back from the full blessings of the gospel. I've been sort of in your situation, cept in my case it was a husband who decided life with me being the sole provider for 2 years was soooooo hard so he moved in with a woman with 2 kids. The betrayal, after all the sacrifices you made, is the really stinker. $20k is a large amount of money but consider it a payment for a wiser you. I bet you never again live with someone without the benefit of a prenup, I know I sure won't

If I didn't have my hypothyroid medicine I would be a walking zombie, assuming I could get out of bed at all (sleepiness and lack of cognitive brain function being common symptoms). I tried going about 2 years without my medicine, thinking I didn't really need it and I could use willpower. Turns out my willpower went pretty much all into daily motor functions. Fortunately my daughter was really little so she didn't get shortchanged quite as much as she would be if I tried that now. Medicines are created by people inspired of God, for the benefit of His children. Like the internet Take your medicine!

The beauty of cut roses is fleeting. The beauty of cut gemstones lasts forever....just my take

Ouch, you have a rough road don't ya? I'm not sure the same sex attraction makes it worse, you are in the same boat those of us of a certain unmarried age are in, regardless of inclinations. The human body is subject to various instincts, one of which is the instinct to reproduce. Fortunately we are commanded to put aside the 'natural' man (or woman ) Mosiah 3: 19 For the natural man is an enemy to God, and has been from the fall of Adam, and will be, forever and ever, unless he yields to the enticings of the Holy Spirit, and putteth off the natural man and becometh a saint through the atonement of Christ the Lord, and becometh as a child, submissive, meek, humble, patient, full of love, willing to submit to all things which the Lord seeth fit to inflict upon him, even as a child doth submit to his father. I don't really have much in the way of advice except pray often, lose yourself in service to others (family is really good for me), and endure endure endure. I find myself in a similar position, and these are what works for me. Our Eternal Father in Heaven knows you as His son, and is mindful of your needs. Take heart in that immensely comforting fact. GL!

The bolded part is so true (everything else is too of course lol). For ages the grandkids in the family showed a def preference for Grampa, much to the dismay of Gramma. It's not that she wanted all the attention, all she wanted was a hug or two without promptings. 8 years later the grandkids still give Grampa hugs, but they actually have conversations with Gramma about all sorts of things, which thrills her to no end. Patience with the changing maturity level of children is probably the most important thing to keep in mind.

As my daughter has grown older and will soon face the whole cheer/drill team participation question I've had my own concerns about modesty. I guess the best example I've found is the college level cheer competitions usually found on ESPN. There is usually a seasonal trend in costumes so they all have the same general look, but the individual modesty levels can vary wildly. My daughter will probably go into sports rather than dance and I'm very happy with the basketball shorts that at least hit mid-thigh. The volleyball shorts, not so much happiness. A lot of the teams wear what looks like swimming bottoms. Great for the pool, but jumping around on the court? You know they're only following what the adults are doing. I remember reading years ago about the women's beach volleyball organization requiring the really skimpy outfits you see them wear in competitions. My thought when watching them in the Olympics was 'omgosh I hope they have a lot of double-sided tape.'
