My wife has decided to leave the church.
classylady replied to 000Zero000's topic in Marriage and Relationship Advice
After my husband's divorce, there was no co-parenting. It was more like parallel-parenting. He did his thing, she did her thing. My husband had custody of his kids, so he had the greater influence. His ex had been excommunicated. Both of my step-children ended up going on missions and are still very active in the church today. -
You don't need a current temple recommend in order to buy garments. There are many members, for whatever reason, that don't have current temple recommends. But, you must be an endowed member. Edit: Q & A from the LDS Store website: Q. What information do I need to provide in order to purchase garments? A. You must be endowed or have a signed and activated temple recommend to receive your endowment before you may purchase garments. Your LDS Account will verify this information and permit you to purchase garments.

42: The answer to life, the universe and everything. The computer when asked what 6 by 9 was, answered 42, in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy". Obviously incorrect. But 613 × 913 = 4213 (using base 13.) lol

Asking for a Priesthood Blessing - Illness
classylady replied to yoyoteacher's topic in Advice Board
I can tell my husband feels so good/honored when someone asks him for a blessing. He isn't one of the leaders of our ward, just an average, doing his duty, sort of fellow. I think of him as being the salt-of-the-earth type. I appreciate that in him, and I'm so appreciative that he is worthy to give priesthood blessings. I agree with what has been said. Ask any worthy priesthood holder you know. Most of them will be honored that you asked and happy to serve. -

How many wards meet in your building?
classylady replied to lagarthaaz's topic in General Discussion
Three wards meet in our building. We have had four before. The wards take turns with the cleaning. Right now we have the last time slot, so we put away the chairs. We haven't had a problem with cleanliness. Of course with three wards versus one or two wards meeting in a building, there is going to be more wear on the books, chairs, library materials, etc. But, I haven't seen an extreme amount of wear-and-tear. -
We try to plan for all three hours. But, it seems like we're either behind schedule, or something is going on where we can't attend all three hours, or even any sessions.

Vort, did you remember the formal and informal conversation--Sie und du sprache? The gender thing, and whether to speak formally or informally can be intimidating.

All this talk about white shirts reminded me of my mission in Germany. While I was there it was the custom to get the new Elders outfitted with "Seidensticker"brand white shirts. The main feature of this shirt was an almost indestructible stiff white collar and it was nearly wrinkle free. Whenever we saw an American white shirt with its limp collar, we missionaries would invariably make fun of it and would call it a "noodle" shirt. Aw, the memories.

My husband buys his white shirts at the Distribution Center. He prefers the Van Heusen.

Learn to trust your instincts about your baby. You are the parents. You will be more in-tune to her wants and needs than anyone else.

Sushi or wasabi? No way! Something sweet. I'm thinking I'll have a Lindor milk chocolate truffle.

I've noticed lag time for quite some time. It's especially bad on the longer threads.

Coming soon: Children with THREE parents . . .

While reading the article this is what came to my mind: The 1988 movie "Twins" starring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito -
When I was about 23/24 yrs. old, I was in the San Diego area, and my date took me to what he called a "dive" but had wonderful Mexican food. And he was right, everything was delicious. He dared me to try the Salsa which I admit was the "hottest" I've ever tasted!!! I managed to eat it and even enjoyed it. Several months later he called me and said the restaurant had been closed due to rats. lol We are still friends to this day, and I will get a call from him every once and awhile. (We were on the same mission in Germany together, so there's a strong bond). Ever since my first pregnancy, I can no longer handle or even want to eat anything that is very spicy. I can't seem to handle it anymore. When I order wings or ribs, it's always with a sweet sauce.

I was just going to post this^. Also, Pam, I think we need to make a trip to Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. And if we can, maybe take the Chunnel over to France. What do you think? In a couple of years maybe?

HT/VT is what it is. You cannot force people to visit you. There are times when we have had diligent HT and VT. And other times when we haven't. I'm blessed to live in a ward where the membership seems to take their assignments seriously, and for the most part it gets done. Maybe, not every month, but still it's fairly regular. char713, if I was your VT, you would probably scare me to death. This not an assessment about your character. I am not perfect. People scare me. Making phone calls scare me. When I have a less active person on my VT list, I admit, I don't visit them as much as I should. I think they probably don't want to be bothered. Calling people and asking for a time when we can come visit is almost more than I can do. If I see one of my VT ladies in the halls at church I muster up as much courage as I can and talk to them personally to make an appointment. If I have to call someone, it most likely won't get done. My companion is much better at making the phone calls and setting up appointments. I love giving the lesson, she hates that part. So we make a great team. I have a love/hate relationship with HT and VT. I don't mind it being a numbers thing. But, I am embarrassed about the way my home looks, so I really don't like people in my home. I'm so self-conscious about needing new carpet, etc. We live in a very affluent neighborhood, but yet, my husband and I are living in near poverty. It is so embarrassing to have people who literally live in *million dollar homes come into my humble abode. This past summer and into the Fall, when my VT's came over I would have them sit on lawn chairs in the front yard, rather than have them come into my house. I was much more at ease that way. They probably thought it was strange, but our air-conditioning doesn't work, plus can't afford to have it run, so it was cooler to sit in the shade outside than inside the sweltering house. *Here in Utah, a million dollar home is a lot of house. In some areas such as Calif. maybe not so much.

This may sound over-the-top, but, I've had to "unfollow" several close "friends" on Facebook. And, it's because of their "friend" status with a particular person that if I even see the name mentioned I can go into depression. So, if I want to see what is happening in the life of the person I "unfollowed", I just go to their page when I'm in a frame-of-mind where I can handle seeing anything posted from my nemesis. That may seem silly, but it's the only way I can handle that particular stress right now. I have "unfollowed" several people for such things as: endless political rants, seemingly endless posts about their favorite musical group, etc. I don't "unfriend" them, I just "unfollow" them. And to clarify a little: I don't mind the occasional political post or rant, the occasional post about the favorite rock band, or whatever, but when that's all they post, never anything personal, and it's about 10 posts a day, it's just too much for me. I dislike the endless scrolling down through post after post of the same thing.

In our house, if I asked my husband to make dinner, he would cook meat. That's it. No vegetables, no salad, no side dishes of any kind. He has gotten a little better through the years. The other day he cooked up some chicken and actually added some frozen veggies!

Rice-a-Roni (or any Rice Vermicelli mix). I usually used chicken flavor, but any flavor will do. 1 can tuna fish Follow directions on box by browning the Rice Vermicelli mix, and then bringing it to a boil. I then add a can of drained tuna to the mix and then let it simmer for the amount of time suggested. While that is cooking, heat up some frozen veggies as a side dish. I add the tuna because in my mind it gives it more nutrition. Homemade Tostadas 1 to 2 cans Refried beans (depending on family size) Tortilla shells (I usually used flour shells) grated cheese diced tomatoes shredded lettuce sour cream Home made tostadas are always fast and easy. Just heat up canned refried beans. I would smooth it over my tortilla shell, add grated cheese, diced tomatoes, and shredded lettuce with a dollop of sour cream. For the little ones that didn't like the veggies, I would make them burritos instead. Just add the refried beans to the shell, add some grated cheese and then roll it up for them. Easy peasy

I always kept a bag of Frito's on my pantry shelves for a quick meal the kids loved. This meal was given to me from a sister in the ward after I had just had a baby. 1 bag Fritos (probably any corn chips would do) 1 to 2 cans chili with beans (depending on family size) 1 diced tomato shredded lettuce Grated cheese Sour Cream Heat chili on stove. Place a handful of fritos on a plate. Dish several spoonfuls of hot chili over it. Add shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and grated cheese to taste. Then add a dollop of Sour Cream. Some of my kids didn't like tomatoes, so they didn't add the tomatoes. Some didn't like lettuce. And they usually didn't add the sour cream. They can add what they like and how much they like to it. This may not be the most nutritious meal, but it's filling, and my kids would eat it every time.
