My Dad wasn't active until the last 1-2 yrs of his life...he passed in 1992. He never missed work and always went to work when he was sick or even if he had back pain.

My dad passed away 5 years ago.

He was one of the most compassionate men I've ever known.  He also had one of the strongest work ethics of anyone I know as well.

Ohe thing he taught me growing up was the importance of being on time.  No matter what it was.  Church, work, any type of appointments  He always told me that tiime was valuable and don't waste another's time by being late.He always said leave plenty early because you just never know what might happen between point A and B.

My dad had this thing about lecturing us when we did something wrong. Sometimes they went for 1-2 hours. As we got older we finally just told my dad that he should number his lectures and save us all some time. He could just it was lecture number 138.

He had a very strong testimony of the gospel and fulfilled any calling given with everything that he had.

I miss him terribly. I miss his airplane stories (he was a Naval aviator).

With it being Father's Day tomorrow, I thought it would be nice to list some positive attributes of our fathers.

My father died when I was six, going on seven years old.  I have very few memories of him.  But, I want to honor him.  One of my memories is of him swinging me high into the air.  I loved it.

Also, I know he had a strong testimony of the Gospel.  In 1956 he was ordained a Seventy by Spencer W. Kimball.

I wish I had more memories of him.  I miss his presence in my life.

Bini, maybe you're just not ready for a second one yet. Is your daughter almost 2 yo? I think a good age difference between siblings in about 3 to 3.5 years. You never know, you might feel different in a year.

It's just the young-girls-shouldn't-be-alone-with-their-perv-bishops-asking-them-sex-questions thing. It really comes across as agenda driven to have such a specific problem example. Like -- "See, this really is a problem. This proves the male leadership thing is messed up. If women were involved then there wouldn't be a problem. Etc., etc." This particularly comes out with comments in the OP like:

edit: Upon re-reading my post and this ^ quote I feel even stronger. Obvious, blatant, agenda driven drivel!

I have a theory about this whole 'Ordain Women' thing.

If you believe that President Monson is guided by God, then pray to God for women to receive the Priesthood. If it's the right thing to do, he'll get the message. If he doesn't, he won't.

If you don't believe he's guided by God, then why are you in the church in the first place?

It seems to me that the big problem here isn't asking for the Priesthood(That could definitely be a righteous desire. Heck - I wanted the Priesthood. ) or in questioning the Church(We're a diverse people. Nothing wrong with questioning).

The problem here is demanding God's will be subservient to yours - Asking a question and only accepting one answer. That way never turns out well.

I just had a talk with my daughter because of some sisters, not brothers, but sisters were shoving the "peter priesthood" view of women in the church.  This greatly disturbs me because all my girls tell me that it's usually not the men, it's the women that perpertrate this thinking.  Quite frankly, besides being sealed in the temple and enduring to the end, men need to be ordained to the priesthood to attain the highest level of celestial glory.  Women need only to be born.  I kind-of read something into this.

In any case, this whole "exponential" growth in excommunications is just plain silly unless someone can come up with numbers to support that position.  Otherwise, it's two people who have an agenda, who are polarized in their thinking, and have been invited to a disiplinary hearing.  I don't know much about Kate Kelly but I have listened to John Dehlin in interviews and podcasts and he is a wolf in sheeps clothing.

But I've been on the excommunicated side and I say from my own and other's experience, if they are excommunicated, they are in for some of the darkest, most challenging days of their lives because they will be buffeted by the advisary in ways they will never expect.  They will have left only two roads to go: setting aside their pride, getting some humility and walk towards the light of Christ, or continue down the path they are on and drown in the darkness.  There is no middle ground.

So before they or anyone begins to blame the church for making their lives difficult, or creating difficulty for them or their families, they ought to take responsibility and accept what is to come because they got into this knowing that the outcome would end up looking like it looks now.

Their crying foul is unimpressive.  Their letting the world know only makes transparent their contempt and proves their agenda and disingenuousness.

Little children who die before the age of accountability will receive the highest reward. They will be exalted in the Celestial Kingdom.

Bruce R. McConkie had this to say about the salvation of little children (The entire talk is in the Apr. 1977 Ensign https://www.lds.org/ensign/1977/04/the-salvation-of-little-children?lang=eng):

Are all little children saved automatically in the celestial kingdom?
To this question the answer is a thunderous yes, which echoes and re-echoes from one end of heaven to the other. Jesus taught it to his disciples. Mormon said it over and over again. Many of the prophets have spoken about it, and it is implicit in the whole plan of salvation. If it were not so the redemption would not be infinite in its application. And so, as we would expect, Joseph Smith’s Vision of the Celestial Kingdom contains this statement: “And I also beheld that all children who die before they arrive at the years of accountability are saved in the celestial kingdom of heaven.” (D&C 137:10)
It is sometimes asked if this applies to children of all races, and of course the answer is that when the revelation says all children it means all children. There is no restriction as to race, kindred, or tongue. Little children are little children and they are all alive in Christ, and all are saved by him, through and because of the atonement.
Speaking of the Prophet’s statement that all children are saved in the celestial kingdom, President Joseph Fielding Smith said: “This would mean the children of every race. All the spirits that come to this world come from the presence of God and, therefore, must have been in his kingdom. … Every spirit of man was innocent in the beginning; and all who rebelled were cast out; therefore, all who remained are entitled to the blessings of the gospel.” (Doctrines of Salvation, 2:55.)
How and why are they saved?
They are saved through the atonement and because they are free from sin. They come from God in purity; no sin or taint attaches to them in this life; and they return in purity to their Maker. Accountable persons must become pure through repentance and baptism and obedience. Those who are not accountable for sins never fall spiritually and need not be redeemed from a spiritual fall which they never experienced. Hence the expression that little children are alive in Christ. “Little children are redeemed from the foundation of the world through mine Only Begotten,” the Lord says. (D&C 29:46.)
    Will they have eternal life?
Eternal life is life in the highest heaven of the celestial world; it is exaltation; it is the name of the kind of life God lives. It consists of a continuation of the family unit in eternity. We have quoted scriptures saying that children will be saved in the celestial kingdom, but now face the further query as to whether this includes the greatest of all the gifts of God—the gift of eternal life. And in the providences of Him who is infinitely wise, the answer is in the affirmative. Salvation means eternal life; the two terms are synonymous; they mean exactly the same thing. Joseph Smith said, “Salvation consists in the glory, authority, majesty, power and dominion which Jehovah possesses and in nothing else.” (Lectures on Faith, pp. 63–67.) We have come to speak of this salvation as exaltation—which it is—but all of the scriptures in all of the standard works call it salvation. I know of only three passages in all our scriptures which use salvation to mean something other and less than exaltation.

Let's see... you followed your Bishop's counsel on saving up for a mission... and a more noble and necessary expense came up... and you were prepared.  Perhaps your Bishop's counsel, in the grand scheme of things, was meant for you to be prepared for this?

When I was preparing my missionary papers, I needed to see the dentist.  I called one up and asked for an appointment.  They said "We won't have any time for 2 weeks, but you can come in right now."  I asked "How much?"  "$116".

I didn't have any money of my own at the time.  So I asked my mother - who just came back from grocery shopping.  I said "Mom, Could I have $116 for a dentist appointment right now?"  After shopping for a family of five, she had EXACTLY $116 for me to see the dentist.

Sometimes things just work out.  Have faith that where there is a will to serve the Lord, a way will be provided.  I can't think of a more noble cause than to help with medical expenses for your mother who has cancer.  Trust the Lord, and have faith in your leaders.  You will be able to serve.

I sometimes ask myself what is fair in this life? Being born into luxury vs. being born into poverty: Is that fair? Is it fair that many young men have had to fight wars and have lost their lives? Is it fair that many young girls are married off to much older men?  Is it fair to be sold as a slave? Is it fair that in some countries the young children are malnourished and/or starving? Is it fair that many are born without ever learning of Christ vs. those who are born into Christian homes? Is it fair that old and young alike have their lives cut short by poor health, disease, accidents, wars, etc. Is it fair that children have been kidnapped from their homes by nefarious, evil pedophiles and then tortured?

I don't think life is fair. But, I do know that Heavenly Father will make it right. Sometimes, death may be the best blessing of all. And, for those of us who have to slog away at life, fighting Lucifer, enduring to the end, I know that Heavenly Father is mindful of our hurts, pain, grief, joy, and our service to our fellow man.

Mom told my aunt we were coming.  She seemed grateful.  I think when people asked just just couldn't handle another decision. My mom knows that this visit will be different.  Her brother is only awake a few minutes everyday and the doctors don't think he can see anymore.  I had a long talk with my pastor, who is amazing handling death, and he gave me clues to look for and guidelines for respecting boundaries while looking for opportunities to serve in practical ways. I feel much calmer now.  But I still appreciate the prayer because my role will be to provide emotional/physical support to both mom and my aunt as they grieve.

We will be staying in a hotel and eating out so my aunt feels no pressure to "entertain". We have plenty of books and crafts to keep us busy during down times.

When my three older boys reached their teenage years it was as if they were bottomless pits.  We went through a lot of food!  Now, my youngest son, who just turned 20, isn't like that.  He eats, but he seems to graze rather than snarf down everything in sight.  My youngest also didn't have the same mom as the older kids.  I was in school full time when he was born, and then I went to work full time after I graduated.  I usually had night shifts, and he would have to get himself up, fix his own breakfast, and then get himself off to school on his own.  He did that from kindergarten onward.

In regards to your question...Hugh B. Brown had this to say:

    Hugh B. Brown
"Each man or boy, whatever his age or his station in life, is subject to the temptation to destroy himself by reason of a God-given power which all of us have. All of us who know good sometimes feel within ourselves the possibility of evil, and while we may condemn sincerely and without any hypocrisy the evil in us, we are conscious that at times we ourselves are tempted to do the very thing we hate, and in doing it we hate ourselves as well as the thing we do. I think this caused Paul to admit, '. . . the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.' (Romans 7:19.)

"Real character is formed in the midst of the battles of the soul. Christ offered peace, not in the sense of freedom from disturbance, but in the midst of disturbance. When He said, 'Peace, be still,' it was in the midst of a storm. We need to develop within ourselves the kind of self-control that will enable us in the midst of disturbance to find the peace that comes into the soul of a man who is living as he knows he should live." (The Abundant Life [salt Lake City: Bookcraft, 1965], 127.)
