@LatterDSaint Man, I left the republican party when Trump got the republican nomination. I actually am not a registered republican specifically because I dislike trump *so* much that I felt if he represented the republican party, than I must not be a republican. I don't just dislike him, I can't stand him. I still consider myself a conservative, just more of a Rand Paul type of conservative. Now with that in mind even I think you are being over the top ridiculous with your statements regarding Trump and Kavanaugh (although admittedly I'm not following the Kavanaugh thing, at all).

    1.  You can speculate as much as you want; but those speculations are likely to be biased crap rooted in ignorance and paranoia.  The “official records” being kept private are legal advice that Kavanaugh gave to his client, the White House Counsel’s office.  Kavanaugh, as an attorney, has no legal right to release them.  Moreover, the public has no more right to know about the advice an attorney in the White House Counsel’s office gives to its client, than it has a right to know about the advice a private divorce attorney gives to a single mother; or about a witness credibility issue that an assistant attorney general discusses with a state agency supervisor.  The notion that Kavanaugh—or any attorney—would be discussing private gambling debts or secret handshakes with Russian agents with his client that HAPPENED TO BE THE FREAKING WHITE HOUSE, is beyond laughable.
    2.  I haven’t followed the confirmation hearings closely enough to catch any alleged lies under oath.  If you want to discuss a couple of representative cases, that might be an interesting exchange; but I hope they will exceed the  standard of uninformed and disingenuous mudslinging that you have hitherto set for yourself in this forum.
Moving the target again.  I’m not saying I defend such a situation; I’m merely stating that a) a lot of legal scholars on both sides of the aisle do; and b) Kavanaugh was willing to defend such a situation even when a Democrat was in the White House—debunking your claim that his position here makes him a “partisan hack”.
Of course not.  They affirmed knowing him during that period while also honestly acknowledging they weren’t in school together.  The accuser, naturally, didn’t go to school with him either.
You made a key omission on the extract of my post that you provided in the quote box.  In the case of the sixty-five signatories to the letter, I clearly said “character witnesses”.   That has a very specific definition.
I may not know a lot about Kavanaugh’s honesty, but I’m learning a lot about yours.
Don’t lie about one of my posts again.

Who said the authors of the letter were classmates of Kavanaugh’s?  The letter itself notes Kavanaugh went to an all-boys school and that most of the signatories went to all-girls schools.
And, you’re complaining that Kavanaugh’s defense was *too efficient*?  The accuser’s letter has been on Capitol Hill for two months now, and it’s very likely that Senator Feinstein mentioned its contours to Grassley weeks ago in the midst of the backroom dickering that is—Washington Kabuki theater aside—the way most stuff gets done there.
At any rate, as things now stand we have two named direct witnesses and sixty-five character witnesses against this accusation; two Democratic congresswomen who spent two months not believing the accusation; and zero named witnesses supporting it.

There are very good reason for the Statute of Limitations...  Namely the farther back you go the harder it is to get any evidence... It is harder to prove guilt... but it is also harder to mount a defense.  It cuts both ways.
Case in point you are already to lynch Kanaugh without any proof whatsoever... you simply want to.. so you are confirmation biasing everything to that end.  You ignore the fact that it has been denied by both the accused, and you consider the witnesses of his character  to be proof of guilt... (that is seriously messed up)
But I guarantee you the day you get accused of something horrible that you are going to want public opinion to "Presume your Innocence," you are going to want to be able to find witnesses to your character, you are going to want to have people wait for you to face your accuser and defend yourself in a court of law, before they judge your worth as a person.

Btw, I love Marilyn Mansions cover of Tainted Love. His cover of Halloween is also fantastic. I can't say I know what makes songs that seem to speak to everyone tick. I'm pretty sure why certain people are attracted to certain types of music should be a scientific field if it isn't already. I've always wondered why it is I'm drawn in particular to sadder, depressing music, or to angry, powerful sounding music. Why I'm typically irritated by bouncy happy music, or at least can only take it in small doses.

I was a freshman in High School. I always had breakfast at the high school after seminary because I lived in a different town. I remember walking in and seeing the smoking towers on the tv. Me not knowing what the towers were, I, I guess arrogantly, remarked "What's that all about, we bomb somebody?" someone at the table said "No, someone bombed us". I still remember my surprise, like, was it possible for anyone to bomb us!?

I remember being disappointed in the wake of it all, with peoples hostile reactions to Arabian's (I think I'm using that wrong, Arabs? people of Arabic descent? Middle Eastern? idk)/Muslims in the following weeks.

@Vort I typically enjoy your straight forward, no beating about the bushes style of posting. I can recall reading your posts several times thinking "I was thinking that, only vort put it much more succinctly and accurately than I ever could have."

@prisonchaplain  You have to be the coolest guy here. I respect how well you communicate with those not of your faith and how respectful of others beliefs you are. I can remember in one thread in particular you cleared up some misunderstandings I had of trinitarian beliefs and I understand it much better now thanks to you.

@unixknight You are a linux guy, so by default I like you. I'm actually working on a raspberry pi project right now. It's a little pi car that will be controlled in a first person view. I Intend, when it's done, for the pi to server as a wifi access point, so that a phone can connect to it via wifi and control it via a webapp that's hosted on the car. It's a fun project, I've learned a lot about php and a little about javascript so far. I've got the nuts and bolts working but not much polish yet.

@mirkwood Maybe it's because I have not been around much, but I'm shocked and disappointed by the lack of zombie threads I see, October is right around the corner. I'm pretty sure this is somehow a compliment, I'm not sure how yet.

The interesting thing about this is the skyrocketing speculative-extrapolation-to-concrete-knowledge ratio.
The Church has basically said “we want to re-emphasize our proper name, and you may be seeing some changes to some internal bureaucratic practices—and by the way, we’re asking the press to basically do the same thing we’ve repeatedly asked them to do in the past”.  And suddenly there’s all this talk of “rebranding” and “PR” and “desperately trying to revive a dying faith” from outsiders and heterodox church members; and hand-wringing amongst orthodox Saints over the apparent sinfulness of ever again uttering the “M” word in mixed company  . . .
Can we all just chill a bit?

I just got off the phone from talking with my son, a BYU student who's getting ready to apply to law schools. He's looking at the Big Three. BYU's Clark law school, which is a solid school but definitely not in the top 3 (or even 40 -- though they just barely missed out on that), sent him a very nice letter (maybe email) wishing him luck and letting him know that if he had interest in BYU, they'd happily take him out to lunch to discuss the matter.
Our conversation went to what it would take for BYU to move up dramatically in the law school rankings, say crack the top 20 or even the top 10. He opined that it probably wouldn't happen in his lifetime, but it could be done if BYU upgraded its faculty and made corporate connections so its graduates could get recruited into top jobs. That would start a cycle that would move BYU up in the law school rankings, but it would take lots of time -- and lots and lots and lots and lots of money.
That's the problem with worldly success. It requires money, and it is measured in money. That is problematic because Zion is the opposite of the world, and Zion's desires are often opposite of the world's desires. Where the world cares primarily, sometimes only, about money, Zion does not give money a second thought. "Sufficient for our needs" is really the only monetary requirement (or desire) for the denizens of Zion.
So I'm guessing President Taylor didn't have college rankings or salaries in mind when he made that statement. Nibley used to quote Brigham Young a lot about how those who love learning because they think it will give them money or power mistake the matter and will never find what they are looking for. Learning must be loved for its own sake, because it is itself a thing of beauty, and not because you think it will give you an advantage over your fellow man. An attitude like that could indeed change the world if the Saints truly adopted it.

One thing that's probably been brought up, how much can you trust a YouTube video?

I mean, is it even a real recording? The only people that could tell you if it's authentic by and large will likely refuse to even watch it.

Anybody that secretly recorded a temple ceremony, if it is in fact authentic, is involved in deceit already. How trustworthy is anything they put forth?
My personal thought is "yes you should follow your promptings to find out more, get baptized, live worthily and attend yourself!"
