Family and the new firearm prohibition
askandanswer replied to Backroads's topic in Support in Hard Times
In this case, we, the members of the church have been told to do nothing, ie, to leave our guns outside, and I think the balance has been pretty much set by the new policy -
Family and the new firearm prohibition
askandanswer replied to Backroads's topic in Support in Hard Times
I suspect that somewhere in the scriptures there might be promises of safety and protection linked to obedience. Those scriptures might even be true. So it all depends on whether you want to put your trust in the arm of flesh by bringing your gun into the chapel, or leaving your gun in the car and trusting in God that He will do as He has promised. -
Well, if it was @pam asking the question, I'd be inclined to ignore it and just walk away. If it was anybody else asking, I would refer them to https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/gs/jealous-jealousy?lang=eng where it says As used in the scriptures, the word jealous has two meanings: (1) to be fervent and to have sensitive and deep feelings about someone or something, and (2) to be envious of someone or suspicious that another will gain some advantage. TO HAVE FERVENT FEELINGS I the Lord am a jealous God, Ex. 20:5 (Deut. 5:9; 6:15; Mosiah 11:22). I will be jealous for my holy name, Ezek. 39:25. I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion, Zech. 1:14. TO BE ENVIOUS OR SUSPICIOUS Jealousy is the rage of a man, Prov. 6:32–35. Akish began to be jealous of his son, Ether 9:7. Strip yourselves from jealousies and fears, D&C 67:10.

I think I remember reading somewhere that the word jealous, when used to describe God's feelings, was meant to suggest that God has deep and sensitive feelings, but unfortunately, I cannot remember where I came across that.

Why Women Don’t Wear Pants to Church
askandanswer replied to Third Hour's topic in Third Hour Article Discussion
I skipped pages 3 - 8 of this thread so maybe the following has already been said, but it seems to me as though 1 Corinthians 8 is quite relevant to this discussion. That chaper is about eating meat offered to idols, but I believe the same principles could readily be applied to women wearing pants at church 8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse. 9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak. 10. For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols; 11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? 12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ. 13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend. (New Testament | 1 Corinthians 8:10 - 13) -

The Development of Mormon Theology(Book)
askandanswer replied to Queolby's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I think that God's plans are sufficiently flexible as to be able to accomodate some involvement from His children. I also think if that involvement leads to things becoming too far off the track, He will take whatever remedial action may be necessary. -
Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God - got a brief mention in our Sunday School class today and it got me thinking. This verse reminded me of our absolute dependence on the atonement. Under the current terms and conditions of the Plan of Salvation, because we have all sinned, in order to be saved in the Kingdom of God, we are all absolutely dependent on the atonement and God’s mercy. This led to a few questions in my mind: In order for the Plan of Salvation to accomplish its intended purposes, does it, in its current form, lead to, or create, or rely upon, a situation of dependence? Is this better or worse than a plan that leads to a situation of independence? Why is a Plan that creates, or results in, or relies upon a condition of dependence better than a plan which leads to independence? If an all-powerful God could have created a plan which did not involve creating conditions of dependency – and I don’t think such a task would be beyond His abilities - why might He have created a plan that does involve setting up a condition of dependency? What did He have in mind in setting things up this way, why is He seemingly making the creation of a dependent condition so important in this Plan of Salvation, and might there be anything else that the creation of this condition of dependence is meant to assist in the achievement of, post-exaltation?

The architect prepares the plan, the builder creates the structure and the owner/occupiers add their own touch. Does the work of the builders and the owner/occupiers change the plan? I think not. -
@pam I hope you realise what a blessing this ^^ is.

I haven't read the whole thread, but Doctrine and Covenants 132: 39 seems to me to be strongly suggestive of the idea that some form of eternal marriage took place between Moses and Christ 39 David's wives and concubines were given unto him of me, by the hand of Nathan, my servant, and others of the prophets who had the keys of this power; and in none of these things did he sin against me save in the case of Uriah and his wife; and, therefore he hath fallen from his exaltation, and received his portion; and he shall not inherit them out of the world, for I gave them unto another, saith the Lord. (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 132:39)

I think the following scriptures are relevant for this question 1 VERILY, thus saith the Lord unto you concerning the Apocrypha—There are many things contained therein that are true, and it is mostly translated correctly; 2 There are many things contained therein that are not true, which are interpolations by the hands of men. 3 Verily, I say unto you, that it is not needful that the Apocrypha should be translated. 4 Therefore, whoso readeth it, let him understand, for the Spirit manifesteth truth; 5 And whoso is enlightened by the Spirit shall obtain benefit therefrom; 6 And whoso receiveth not by the Spirit, cannot be benefited. Therefore it is not needful that it should be translated. Amen. (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 91:1 - 6) If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained. 7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness. (New Testament | 1 Timothy 4:6 - 7) 118 And as all have not faith, seek ye diligently and teach one another words of wisdom; yea, seek ye out of the best books words of wisdom; seek learning, even by study and also by faith. (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 88:118)

7 And ye are called to bring to pass the gathering of mine elect; for mine elect hear my voice and harden not their hearts; (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 29:7) 40 For intelligence cleaveth unto intelligence; wisdom receiveth wisdom; truth embraceth truth; virtue loveth virtue; light cleaveth unto light; (Doctrine and Covenants | Section 88:40)

I'm really looking forward to when LDS physicists start to turn their attention to this question and try to learn a bit more about the nature of this connection and the means of control.

Do you have a scriptural reference for this?

Just an almost completely random and un-developed thought: I'm going to ward conference in about an hour and I'm pondering the possibility that there might be some differences and similarities between a talk given in conference and an actor speaking on a film. AMong the many ways in which we can consider conference talks, could they ever be considered as entertaining?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a taxpayer funded, government scheme that provides rehabilitation and support to people with a disability. In a recent court case, a client’s claim for the scheme to pay for the services of a sex therapist (sex worker?) to help her “achieve sexual release” was upheld. According to the judgement, "only help she can usefully have to reach sexual release, to the extent to which she can, is by means of the qualified and trained sexual therapist whose services she seeks. The cost of the sex therapist to the applicant's NDIS plan will be about $5,400 a year and cover bi-monthly sessions.” https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-07-11/ndis-to-pay-for-sex-therapist-after-landmark-ruling/11298838
