  1. The time that I've seen this happen most frequently is when a couple divorce and don't want to still attend the same ward together. In these instances, I've never seen a request to attend a ward outside of your boundaries be denied. When they did the boundary realignment in our stake a few weeks ago, as part of the FAQ session of the meeting, a member of the Stake Presidency read out the church policy on being a member of a ward outside your boundaries ( as opposed to simply attending another ward) and apparently the request needs to go to the First Presidency.
  2. Sounds like you need to go out and find, teach and baptise some young 'uns. If people are uncomfortable with the demographics of the ward they are in, that is an issue about which they can do something.
  3. We are into the second week of a major boundary realignment. All four of our city wards had their boundaries realigned but no new wards were created. Everyone has known for more than a year that there was going to be some sort of boundary changes, but nobody knew until it was announced what the changes would be. We had a special stake meeting on Sunday evening three weeks ago when it was announced and the meeting attracted about as many people as what we normally get for stake conference. All four bishops were released and new ones called, the old wards came to an end, and new wards, with new names, were announced. The official reason given for the changes was so that there would be a more even distribution of Priesthood throughout the stake. Most people seem to be pretty happy with the changes. Our Stake President and his second counsellor are particularly happy as they had been serving as both Bishops and members of the Stake Presidency since late June. As yet we have no new Elders Quorum President as we lost our previous president through the boundary changes. I guess the Stake Presidency have done a pretty good job with the changes because I haven't heard any negative comments so far. I'm getting the impression that boundary changes are not announced at random times because I know that within two weeks of each other, there was another major set of boundary changes in another Australian stake far frome here and the neighbouring District became a Stake at about the same time.
  4. Your situation, and the advice you need, is accurately given by Elder Matthew Carter during the Sunday afternoon session of the October 2018 General Conference in a talk entitled Wilt thou be made whole. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2018/10/wilt-thou-be-made-whole?lang=eng As I have counseled with others seeking to repent, I have marveled that people who were living in sin had difficulty making correct decisions. The Holy Ghost would leave them, and they often struggled to make choices that would bring them closer to God. They would wrestle for months or even years, embarrassed or frightened of the consequences of their sins. Often they felt that they could never change or be forgiven. I have often heard them share their fear that if their loved ones knew what they had done, they would stop loving them or leave them. When they followed this line of thinking, they resolved to just keep quiet and delay their repentance. They incorrectly felt that it was better not to repent now so that they would not further hurt those they loved. In their minds it was better to suffer after this life than go through the repentance process now. Brothers and sisters, it is never a good idea to procrastinate your repentance. The adversary often uses fear to prevent us from acting immediately upon our faith in Jesus Christ. When loved ones are confronted with the truth about sinful behavior, while they may feel deeply wounded, they often want to help the sincerely repentant sinner to change and to reconcile with God. Indeed, spiritual healing accelerates when the sinner confesses and is surrounded by those who love them and help them to forsake their sins. Please remember that Jesus Christ is mighty in how He also heals the innocent victims of sin who turn to Him.13 With your husband being a leader in the church I expect that he would have a sound understanding of the doctrines of repentance and forgiveness and act accordingly. Also, from my own experience, I know that our perspective on repentance looks very different before we repent than after we repent. Before we repent, we often see it as a scary, embarrasing, fearful, painful process. After we have repented, we often see repentance as a great miracle for which we are truly grateful. Satan doesn't want us to repent so he really focusses on the fear and embarassment.
  5. 33 For none of these iniquities come of the Lord; for he doeth that which is good among the children of men; and he doeth nothing save it be plain unto the children of men; and he inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile. (Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 26:33)
  6. If you are not a Christian, embracing Catholicism will bring you closer to God. Catholicism teaches good and holy principles to a much greater extent than does the practice of homosexuality.
  7. I've often thought that Moroni 8:14 suggests that people who believe that infant baptism is necessary are in the bonds of iniqiuity possessing neither faith, hope or charity, but as to whether that means they are sinful, well I'm less certain about drawing that conclusion. 14 Behold I say unto you, that he that supposeth that little children need baptism is in the gall of bitterness and in the bonds of iniquity; for he hath neither faith, hope, nor charity; wherefore, should he be cut off while in the thought, he must go down to hell. (Book of Mormon | Moroni 8:14)
  8. Christ needed no forgiveness and yet He was baptised. Furthermore, in Mark 16:16 Christ clearly links baptism with salvation 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. (New Testament | Mark 16:15 - 16) He commanded His disciples to

  10. Taking a symbolic approach, perhaps what you wear after your baptism could be something totally different from what you wear before your baptism. Maybe wear old, smart perhaps unwanted clothes to your baptism, clothes that you'd be happy to leave behind and then totally new clothes after your baptism. I like the thought of being a new person in CHrist, so I'd be inclined to buy a simple but smart set of new clothes and put them on for the first time after your baptism. And then I would only wear those clothes in future for special, sacred events, such as going to the temple, or being confirmed, or going to someone else's baptism. Congratulations on your baptism, you've made the best decision you will ever make.
  11. We finished taking the first step in our preparations about 20 minutes ago. Instead of following the usual Come Follow Me lesson for this week, we focussed on aspects of the restoration. We started with watching again President Nelson's closing remarks during the Sunday afternoon session, starting the talk at the 7:30 mark where he begins to talk about the 2020 Conference. Then we started to do one of the things he specifically asked us to do - we read together about 40 verses from Joseph Smith History. Next we used Google Earth to look at some of the historical sites in and around Palmyra where the events President Nelson spoke about happened. Then we looked at some of the photos and videos that I took there last month, especially the videas of the tours where the Visitor Centre missionaries provide a lot of information. Finally, I finished by sharing my testimony of the truthfulness of the restoration of the gospel and of the events recorded in Joseph Smith - History. It took a little over an hour and a quarter and I think it was the best home gospel discussion we've had this year. We've had a few brief family discussions about whether some or all of us should attend the next Conference, but I haven't finished paying for some overseas travel I'm planning in February, so I'm not sure yet if the family budget can sustain a US trip in April.
  12. I was in Palmyra 4 weeks ago. Two senior missionaries, one at the Joseph Smith Farm Visitor's Centre, and another at the Peter Whitmer farm Visitor's Centre mentioned that a large number of General Authorities have been passing through the area over the last several months recording talks and presentations.

  14. Your age is not something to be made fun of - it should be mourned or marvelled at.
  15. I suggest you check all your phone messages in between the time you leave your job and the time you get home so that when you get home you don't need to look at your phone anymore.
  16. .........as a commendable first step. It's always a good idea to start with the small stuff first.
  17. Belated congratulations on your sealing, and yes, it is a very big deal! Very nice work on the sculpture and stand, and even better work on the sealing.
  18. Typical @MormonGator, always wanting the most for the least! Is that all you're offering, just a shave and a hair cut? Sorry gator, the price for bringing a grenade launcher to church is much higher than that. If you are prepared to a) bathe (at least a week prior to coming to church) b) wear shoes and socks (that is a PAIR of shoes and a PAIR of socks) AND keep them on for both meetings c) offer up a watch d) promise to refrain from threating or abusing the Bishop e) stop terrorising the Primary kids f) set aside the booze for a week, and; g) empty the harem then we can start negotiating. And if you want to bring grenades for said launcher, that will cost you at least a suit.
  19. Lol this is great! This is exactly whst happens in our house from the kids and my wife. Im going to share ths with them.
  20. Only those who are excessively polite or who don't know you all that well would call you a heathen. Those who know you better would use a completely different set of adjectives.
  21. Are you sure about this @mirkwood? Watches are mostly used by people who can tell the time.
  22. A grenade launcher? No need. Go with Someone that has some real firepower. 19 ¶ And he smote the men of Beth-shemesh, because they had looked into the ark of the LORD, even he smote of the people fifty thousand and threescore and ten men: and the people lamented, because the LORD had smitten many of the people with a great slaughter.
