It would never have occurred to me to take it seriously, but I grew up LDS. If I didn't know anything about the Church except for what popular media (read: antis) have to say, I might well believe an offhand sarcasm like that to be true. So I guess you're right. And honestly, maybe it's best not to speak light-mindedly of sacred things anyway.

    Hi, folks
I got astonished when President Nelson said that next general conference would be a "blast" .
Any ideias on how great this event will actually be? Especulations are welcome!

I found President Nelson's question about pondering how your life would be different if your knowledge gained from the Book of Mormon was suddenly taken away to be so interesting....I'm probably putting too much stock into it but I found it to be a unique question.

I’ll bet at some point, additional accounts of the first vision are added to Joseph Smith-History as a footnote (like the existing footnote containing the extract of the Oliver Cowdery letter).

My wife and I thought that maybe the General Conference would be broadcast from Palmyra, NY however the hotel rates in the area don't appear too extravagant at this point so probably not.
Our other thought was that maybe multiple worldwide General Conferences could be held? It will be interesting to see, but the more important matter is the Saint's spiritual preparation for the Conference. That's where President Nelson's main concern seems IMHO.

OP is asking about the translation of beings, like Enoch & Moses.  Not the translation of foreign languages.
President Kimball’s talk discusses the keys of the resurrection which is somewhat similar to translation.
God holds these keys, not man.

In the Q & A section of the November 2017 Ensign: Are John the Beloved and the Three Nephites Actually Still on the Earth? If So, What Are They Doing?
    https://www.lds.org/new-era/2017/11/to-the-point/are-john-the-beloved-and-the-three-nephites-actually-still-on-the-earth-if-so-what-are-they-doing?lang=eng&_r=1
The first paragraph states ~  "Yes, the Savior granted to John the Beloved and the Three Nephites their desire to tarry on the earth. What they’re doing is bringing souls unto the Lord until He comes again (see D&C 7:2; 3 Nephi 28:9).[the second scripture is  And again, ye shall not have pain while ye shall dwell in the flesh, neither sorrow save it be for the sins of the world; and all this will I do because of the thing which ye have desired of me, for ye have desired that ye might bring the souls of men unto me, while the world shall stand.
The second paragraph states ~ "The Savior told John that he would “prophesy before nations, kindreds, tongues and people” and become “as flaming fire and a ministering angel [and] minister for those who shall be heirs of salvation who dwell on the earth” (D&C 7:3, 6; see also John 21:20–23). Mormon said that the Three Nephites would be among the Gentiles and Jews, who would “know them not” (3 Nephi 28:27–28)."

Let's read what Mormon said in the last scripture, I am going to the verses before 27 and a few after to give a better understanding of what Mormon said.

At the heading of 3 Nephi 28: Nine of the twelve disciples desire and are promised an inheritance in Christ’s kingdom when they die—The Three Nephites desire and are given power over death so as to remain on the earth until Jesus comes again—They are translated and see things not lawful to utter, and they are now ministering among men. About A.D. 34–35.

15 And whether they were in the body or out of the body, they could not tell; for it did seem unto them like a transfiguration of them, that they were changed from this body of flesh into an immortal state, that they could behold the things of God.

16 But it came to pass that they did again minister upon the face of the earth; nevertheless they did not minister of the things which they had heard and seen, because of the commandment which was given them in heaven.

    17 And now, whether they were mortal or immortal, from the day of their transfiguration, I know not;

18 But this much I know, according to the record which hath been given—they did go forth upon the face of the land, and did minister unto all the people, uniting as many to the church as would believe in their preaching; baptizing them, and as many as were baptized did receive the Holy Ghost.

19 And they were cast into prison by them who did not belong to the church. And the prisons could not hold them, for they were rent in twain.

20 And they were cast down into the earth; but they did smite the earth with the word of God, insomuch that by his power they were delivered out of the depths of the earth; and therefore they could not dig pits sufficient to hold them.

21 And thrice they were cast into a furnace and received no harm.

22 And twice were they cast into a den of wild beasts; and behold they did play with the beasts as a child with a suckling lamb, and received no harm.

23 And it came to pass that thus they did go forth among all the people of Nephi, and did preach the gospel of Christ unto all people upon the face of the land; and they were converted unto the Lord, and were united unto the church of Christ, and thus the people of that generation were blessed, according to the word of Jesus.

24 And now I, Mormon, make an end of speaking concerning these things for a time.

25 Behold, I was about to write the names of those who were never to taste of death, but the Lord forbade; therefore I write them not, for they are hid from the world.

26 But behold, I have seen them, and they have ministered unto me.

27 And behold they will be among the Gentiles, and the Gentiles shall know them not.

28 They will also be among the Jews, and the Jews shall know them not.

29 And it shall come to pass, when the Lord seeth fit in his wisdom that they shall minister unto all the scattered tribes of Israel, and unto all nations, kindreds, tongues and people, and shall bring out of them unto Jesus many souls, that their desire may be fulfilled, and also because of the convincing power of God which is in them.

Personally, to me, it doesn't matter whether they have blood in their veins or speculating on the definition of translated beings - according to lds dot org
Translated Beings: Persons who are changed so that they do not experience pain or death until their resurrection to immortality, is good enough for me. As for what order ~ There are three kingdoms of glory: the celestial kingdom, the terrestrial kingdom, and the telestial kingdom. The glory we inherit will depend on the depth of our conversion, expressed by our obedience to the Lord’s commandments.

Thus, those who are transfigured would to me be inheriting the celestial kingdom.

Remember, "Nephite" was a general term used for anyone that followed Jesus Christ, and Lamanites were used as a term of those who did not, as in evidence after the 4th generation we once again read about Lamanites.
Nephites covered - Jacobites, Zoramites, Ishmaelites (who followed Nephi). So, in light of this, three Nephites is a correct statement, but in scripture they are referred to as disciples -- three disciples.

As a side note. They are never called that in the scriptures. There is no evidence that they were all Nephites, or Nephites at all. They may have all been Lamanites for all we know.

Well, when I used the terms "immortal" and "amortal", I was intending to distinguish a person who died and resurrected (immortal) and a person who would eventually die (amortal), that is, a person to which death would have no effect for a time.
Now, addressing the terrestrial order issue: as far as I am concerned, translated beings are of a terrestrial order, so their physical condition might differ a lot from ours, I suppose. I mean, terrestrial bodies are in a higher level than the telestial ones (of course), so it is reasonable to think that the three nephites and John the Beloved are in a higher condition of existance, or in a terrestrial order. If they had died and resurrected, they would have entered in a much higher condition, which is the celestial glory, and I suppose they wouldn`t be able to carry out the work they so desired to do.
I`m glad to get more comments on that.

In verses 1-16 Mormon inscribes Nephi’s recollection of events that occurred during Christ’s visit to the Nephites, and more particularly, the interaction with His disciples. Apparently, this material intrigued Mormon. He was particularly interested as to whether the Three Disciples were mortal or immortal. After Mormon wrote verse 16 he stops his transcription and does some research.
This is where Tom Lovell’s illustration comes in handy. Mormon is thinking, you can see it in his eyes. It is obvious from the contents in verses 17-24 that Mormon is curious about the bodies of the Three Disciples whom shall never taste of death. The material that is written in verses 20-22 didn’t occur until almost two centuries after the events of verses 1-16. We know this from the record in 4 Nephi. The records had passed from father to son for four generations.
Nephi the Disciple -> his son Nephi who kept the record till his death in 110 AD.
4th Nephi -> his son Amos who kept the record till his death in 194 A.D.
Amos -> his son Amos who kept the record till his death in 305 A.D.
This second Amos recorded the decline of the Nephites and the miraculous accounts of the three disciples escape from prison, a furnace, and the dens of wild beasts as written in 4 Nephi 1: 30-33. Mormon was so impressed by this record of the three disciples escape that he recorded the events twice. We see the retelling of the miracles within a span of 6 pages, but Mormon must have had to sift through many records to find these accounts. It is also likely that these accounts were rumored among the general populace during Mormon’s lifetime.
Verse 24 is probably the most important in the entire chapter. Mormon has inscribed the record of Nephi and then done the research. After researching the records, he went back to the Golden Plates and inscribed his personal notes. Then in verse 24, it is obvious that Mormon is still unsatisfied. He clearly states “I, Mormon, make an end of speaking concerning these things for a time.”  We don’t know how long of a break he took. But, it must have been significant, because what came next is awe inspiring. Mormon did exactly what we are taught to do when confusion or uncertainty arises. Verse 37 states that he inquired of the Lord.
I imagine that Mormon was kneeling asking for enlightenment when sometime during or after his prayer he hears a knock on his door. As he opens the door, he is greeted by three translated personages. Verse 26 states that these men were the Lord's three disciples, and that they ministered unto him. I imagine that Mormon had many questions. He probably was most interested in what he had previously written into what we now know as Third Nephi chapter Eleven. They were direct witnesses of the newly resurrected Christ, and the Father's testimony. He asked the disciples what it was like to place their hands into the Lord's side, and to feel the prints of the nails in his hands and feet. He asked the disciples what their names were, and they told him. They told Mormon of their special mission and what they had been doing over the past three hundred years. They explained some of the rules that they had to abide. The disciples also told Mormon what they would be doing millennia into the future. They told Mormon that they would be hidden among the Gentiles and the Jews. And that many great and marvelous works would be performed by them prior to the judgment day. They explained in detail and demonstrated the type of change that had occurred to their bodies. They related how they no longer suffered pain nor temptation, and that they were more powerful than any force upon the earth.
In scripture study, footnotes can be extremely beneficial. Knowing what we do now, let’s look at the footnote associated with verse 26. It points to Mormon 8:11
“But behold, my father and I have seen them, and they have ministered unto us.”
This changes our entire image of the chapter!  The verse can be interpreted many ways, but I think Moroni is hinting that he was with his father during the angelic visitation. It is likely that Mormon and Moroni produced the Golden Plates as a team. Considering that the material from The Words of Mormon to Fourth Nephi was produced in a single year (323 pages in our current edition). It is reasonable that Mormon requested the assistance of his son Moroni as his scribe.
Our current model of the production of Third Nephi chapter Twenty-Eight very much resembles an encounter that occurred in modern times found in Joseph Smith History 1: 66-74.  Moroni had probably counseled Joseph Smith to obtain a scribe. Moroni knew that Joseph Smith must complete the translation in a short period of time, and he knew from prior experience that the translation would not be easy.
When Mormon and Moroni went back to the work of finishing the chapter, they were probably very excited to relate their experience. But as they started to inscribe the encounter, the Lord forbade. In verse 25 we learn that Mormon was instructed that he could not share the names of the three diciples, and He was inspired to write the material in a way that limited the amount of material disclosed.

    Note to reader:
    1) The Book of Mormon is an actual historical account.
    2) Scripture study can be rewarding, but to obtain the prize you must do the work. One must think. Research is imperative. And whenever uncertainty or confusion occur, do the right thing and inquire of the Lord.
    3) Whenever you see Mormon or Moroni insert their personal voice into the Golden Plates, please take note. Search for passages where Mormon or Moroni state that they are ‘constrained’ or ‘forbidden’ from sharing more information. It is a sure indication that they were privy to greater insight, and that they wanted to share it with us…[1]

    A) Translated beings are mortals, immortals or amortals ?
As pertaining to earth life they are immortal in the sense that they do not age like you and I and do not die due from some physical ailment. They will taste death similar to those in the millennium.  If I understand 'amortal" they then are both amortal and immortal.
    B) Is there blood running in their veins ? If so, what would justify that?
Unknown. I would say blood, as they have not been resurrected with a body of flesh and bone. That would be my theory and understanding thus far.
    C) Translated beings are in a terrestrial order. What does it imply to their condition ?
Can you further define what you are meaning by terrestrial order, and condition?

Depends on what you mean by translated.
With the 3 Nephites and John the Revelator
    a) Mortal in that they will at some time die or at least change from their present state so that they can receive their glorified reward
    b) I do not know all things...thus I have no idea at this point.
    c) That they have a higher order of understanding and ability while here on this earth, but not as great as that of one who has received a higher glorified state.

Well, "Father's houve" might mean much more than just the celestial kingdom, in my opinion. I mean, there are millions of kingdoms that are in different glories. In Moses 1 we read the Lord telling Moses how vast His dominion is. Anyhow, it's good to learn from you and to increase in knowledge

As nothing is canon, I will provide additional theory pertaining to mansions. If I were to liken many "mansions" pertaining to where God dwells now, I would first think upon our Celestial Kingdom. All who live on this earth that receive a Celestial glory will live on this earth once it has received its glory as the Celestial kingdom.
Then the theory I would propose is that the many mansions where God dwells currently are the individuals who also lived and received Celestial glory -- his brothers and sisters. Again, as not much is revealed about the Father, this is all theory.
