This screen shot from familysearch.org suggests that someone believes that not only was Christ married but that He also had children. I have no idea where this research comes from.

When you have a controversial religious figure healing people, raising the dead, driving out demons, and claiming to be the Son of Man (a divine messianic figure, according to Daniel), claiming to be the only way to God, calling the teachers of the law white-washed tombs, then could it be that his marital status would have been considered a minor matter in light of everything else? The gospels tell us often that the rulers planned to kill Jesus. This for what he said and what his movement might result in--not whether he was hitched or not.

Baptism and reception of the Holy Spirit, by proxy, is a matter of some controversy, if I am not mistaken. The main debate is over whether someone who has been exposed to the teachings of the Church, but who did not embrace them, would be receptive to proxy ordinances, after death. Many members suggest that it is unlikely.
In contrast, observant Jews truly do not seek converts. They believe that Jewish people have a special covenant with God, and that all others must simply obey the Laws of Noah. As I understand it, they believe that Christians of most stripes (including LDS) would qualify, despite our worship of Jesus.

There's a whole slew of these classes that are usually 3 months long...  These are the ones I know of:  My Path (This is like the master plan of how to become self-reliant), My foundation (teaching habits as a foundation for self-reliance), My Education (How to leverage education for self-reliance), Personal Finance (basically Home Economics), My Business (how to start and manage a business), My Job (How to find, keep, and improve on a job).  I'm sure there are others.
P.S.  You can study these for free as well.  You can ask missionaries if there are classes held close to you or you can go through the manuals and self study.  Most of them are designed with accountability partners, though, so it would be great if you can study the manuals with somebody - a spouse, a friend, etc.

I think this is brilliant, I'm not LDS and I really don't understand a lot of what you guys are talking about in this thread (a years supply of food and water for example, no idea lol) but the fact that there is an actual course run by your church on personal finance is wonderful.  I think too many children (and adults of course) grow up without knowing how to handle money, how to prioritise their money so they don't have to stress out when the electricity bill arrives (after all the electricity bill is not a surprise!).
As parents my husband and I talk to our son about money a lot, he has a good financial plan and is on track to buying his first home (well apartment or townhouse but still!), but unfortunately we are a minority and most of his friends are not in the same position.
You should all be proud to be part of a church that talks openly about this subject.
Its so important that people are in control of their finances.  Money is certainly not the most important thing in life but if you are not in control of it, it can have the power to ruin your life.

I stopped reading after this (I actually did read the entire post)  7 KIDS!!!! You have the right to complain about NOTHING.
Honestly, I respect the fact that you are providing a loving home and environment to children who would not otherwise have it. It is Christ like and fantastic that anyone would have such an open heart for that I applaud you. You made this bed, now you get to lay in it for 18 years. So no complaining, no whining.

If the advantages of polygamy are about getting free maids and babysitters...Can you imagine the advantages of polyandry? Heaven on earth, I have an endless list of things to fix at home.

The problem with plural marriage is jealousy. I feel that it's better for a household to have a heavy workload but enjoy a monogamous relationship, than to bring other wives in the picture and ruin that bond by bringing in opportunities for jealousy to arise. All you have to do is read books written by wives of polygamist relationships and they all speak of the favoritism and jealousy that is amongst the women.
Better to get a maid/caregiver/nanny to do the work only and appreciate the completeness of having one wife.

The church handbook states that those interviewing members for recommends should not add any requirements to those that are already specified. In my opinion this example is one of unrighteous dominion.

I would agree 100% in general situations like you mentioned. But in the OP’s situation, the stake president is giving direction that is not in line with church standards.

I just don't know about this.  I will sustain him in as much as he follows the prophet. But I won't sustain him in his extreme efforts to control the stake to meet his own personal standards. Another example was that when his daughter was in Primary, he would personally re-write the Primary programs that were written by the Primary presidency, offending many in his wake. Apparently he was called on the carpet for stuff like this by his superiors. Not released, just told to relax and stick to stake affairs.

"Those who leave the church with utter disgust have been called "anti-Mormons". But, seeings how we were never members of Mormon's church it makes it rather unique. We are members of Christ's church. So, in reality shouldnt those utterly disaffected be called "anti-Christs"?"
I would much rather call them brothers/sisters.

Yeah more or less...  Sadly lots of people misunderstand how it works... some think it is like some kind of Legal Court Room where punishment is handled out for wrong doing causing them to be confused/offended when different 'punishments' are handed out for the 'same sin.'

Pretty much. I had a conversation with a companion of mine on my mission. We had similar sins in our youth and our bishops responded to them drastically different. My companion was only told he needed to stop and was convinced I had committed some greater sin when I told him the restrictions the bishop gave me. Haha, he would pester me on occasion in saying “Common elder [Fether]! Tell me what you did!!”
So ya... people come on here all the time and ask what will happen. The answer is always “we don’t know”

    Welcome @marge
In our faith the Bishop does not forgive sin, he does try to help the sinner be reconciled to God so that they can be forgiven (and know it).  Therefore it is not the Bishop's job to hand out a punishment (although sometimes it can look and feel that way).  Each individual sinner is going to be at a different place in being reconciled to God, the Bishop needs to learn and understand where the sinner is and then help the process continue.  The hardhearted, rebellious, and proud, will tend to get actions that will hopefully soften them (Excommuncation, Disfellowship etc.).  The brokenhearted, the humble, the meek and such is met with the arms of love wide open.  Of course most people are a mixture and therefore the Bishop responds in a mixed manor.
Since we are an internet forum responding to limited data from the OP we can not tell what the bishop's response will be after hearing her, asking questions, and asking the Lord for guidance.  We do not have the knowledge and the guidance the Bishop should get.
As for fear... people generally fear what they do not know... and when they do something wrong they can fear others responses when the other people find out.  This is not the way Christ would have it, but it is what he (and us) has to work with.
