I know it’s just anecdotal, but there was a conservative republican congressmen from Tennessee who was “pro life” but paid for his mistress to have like three abortions. You don’t need to be rabidly pro life to find that appalling. If you dare to think for yourself on issues (if you are a pro life democrat or a pro choice republican for example) you have two options. 1) keep quiet or 2) accept that 70% of your party will pull the “no true scotsman” card. 100% correct It used to bother me that people viewed defending men as somehow downplaying or dismissing the horrors of domestic violence against women. But since I’ve seen that response 10,000 times for 20+ years, it has no effect on me at all anymore. Domestic violence of all types is just awful.

One of my best friends suffered from it. So it’s a passionate issue for me too.
