  2. The verse difference is evident Urloony. Please read it and study.
  3. I also remember a favorite reference in the Book of Mormon like this: Alma 1234 Alma 12:34 34 Therefore, whosoever repenteth, and hardeneth not his heart, he shall have claim on mercy through mine Only Begotten Son, unto a remission of his sins; and these shall enter into my rest. 35 And whosoever will harden his heart and will do iniquity, behold, I swear in my wrath that he shall not enter into my rest.
  4. Reading this topic that Hemidakota started reminded me of a scripture: Alma Chapter 12 10 And therefore, he that will harden his heart, the same receiveth the lesser portion of the word; and he that will not harden his heart, to him is given the greater portion of the word, until it is given unto him to know the mysteries of God until he know them in full. 11 And they that will harden their hearts, to them is given the lesser portion of the word until they know nothing concerning his mysteries; and then they are taken captive by the devil, and led by his will down to destruction. Now this is what is meant by the chains of hell.
  5. Here is a difficult passage. I've read it many times and think I know what it means: "If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. There is a sin unto death: I do not say that he shall pray for it. All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death." King James Version 1 John 5:16-17 I think it means If anyone sees his brother sinning in weakness pray for him and the LORD will give strength for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is sin that leads to death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is sin not leading to death.
  6. I have a four examples of different Bible versions translated differently: New International Version Proverbs 24:16: "for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by calamity." King James Version Proverbs 24:16: "For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief." King James Version Matthew 18:11: "For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost." New International Version Matthew 18:11: Removed from the text King James Version Luke 11:2-4: "Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil." New International Version Luke 11:2-4: "He said to them, "When you pray, say: "Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into temptation." King James Version Luke 4:4: "And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God." New International Version Luke 4:4: "Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone."
  7. Any of us would have fallen asleep during Jesus' experience in Gethsemane. It would have been spiritually and physically exhausting to be around that atmosphere. It would have affected anyone who was around our LORD during His sufferings.
  8. Respite -- Joyce Nelson During his fourth week of basic training, my grandson was able to make a brief phone call to me. He said he was attending church on base every week, which I was pleased to hear. "Everyone goes to church here," he added. "It's the only place we don't get yelled at."
  9. So many people have jobs they don't like in this life and therefore view work as a punishment. I have employment I enjoy most of the time. We should pray and ask the LORD to help us find joy in the work we do.
  10. Most marriages on the earth are telestial marriages and thus selfishness abounds. Even being sealed in the temple is no guarantee our marriage will last. The Holy Spirit of promise must seal the covenants we have made. This comes thru faithfulness and obedience to the LORD's commandments and striving to have charity. Physical intimacy in marriage is not just for procreation according to the teachings of the prophets. Elder Holland has taught: "It is in that act of ultimate physical intimacy we most nearly fulfill the commandment of the Lord given to Adam and Eve, living symbols for all married couples, when he invited them to cleave unto one another only, and thus become 'one flesh' (Genesis 2:24)". (Of Souls, Symbols, and Sacraments by Jeffrey R. Holland)
  11. I see a reason for homes. What about privacy? I believe couples married for eternity will still be intimate.
  12. When I hear this saying I think about the teachings of the Apostle Paul: "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross." Philippians 2:5-8
  13. Start going back to church and repenting. You will need to talk with your Bishop and very likely your Stake President. It would also be very good for you to review the steps of repentance. Here is a link for you: LDS.org - Lessons Chapter - Repentance
  14. The Miracle of Life -- Patricia Gindhart In lectures on human genetics, I explained to my college students that males determine the gender of the offspring by contributing either an X or a Y chromosome. So at the end of the year, I put it on the final exam: "How is the sex of the child determined?" One student wrote, "By examining it at birth."
  15. Too Many Cooks From planetproctor.com A wife is scrambling eggs when her husband bursts into the kitchen. "Careful," he cries. "Careful! You're cooking too many at once. Too many! Scramble them! Now! We need more butter. They're going to stick! Careful! Now scramble them again! Hurry up! Are you crazy? Don't forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them. Use the salt. Use the salt! The salt!" The wife turns and asks, "What is wrong with you?" Her husband calmly replies, "I wanted to show you what it feels like when I'm driving."
  16. Commandments -- Nandiara Hentges When I asked my friend if she was planning to attend church, she just shook her head. "I haven't gone in a long time," she said. "Besides, it's too late for me. I've probably already broken all seven commandments."
  17. I agree with you FirehotEmily. That bill for healthcare was horrible and should be repealed. Sadly I don't believe it will happen. The only question in my mind is how long our Congress can continue to spend as out of control as they have been and we remain intact as a nation. If things don't drastically change within the several years I wonder if there will even be a United States by the year 2035.
  18. I believe those who really want to see a vision from the LORD to confirm their faith can receive such a witness. I had to pray for years and do a lot of repenting before I received what I asked for. We must true and obedient and ask to confirm our faith in the Gospel of Christ. Edit: I still need to do a lot of repenting.
  19. I think it is taught in error that thirty-three percent of the hosts of heaven followed Lucifer. I don't believe that. I believe it was a "third part." To my understanding there were three groups of hosts in heaven: 1) Valiant spirits 2) Less valiant spirits 3) Rebellious spirits The third part of the spirits were rebellious. Read in the book Jesus The Christ pages 6 to 7: In this struggle between unembodied hosts the forces were unequally divided; Satan drew to his standard only a third part of the children of God, who are symbolized as the "stars of heaven"; the majority either fought with Michael, or at least refrained from active opposition, thus accomplishing the purpose of their "first estate"; while the angels who arrayed themselves on the side of Satan "kept not their first estate", and therefore rendered themselves ineligible for the glorious possibilities of an advanced condition or "second estate".
  20. Clinton went on to cite Brazil as a model. "Brazil has the highest tax-to-GDP rate in the Western Hemisphere and guess what — they're growing like crazy," Clinton said. "And the rich are getting richer, but they're pulling people out of poverty." If it's so great in Brazil maybe she should move there.
  21. I don't think that is a correct doctrine according to the Book of Mormon: 14 Behold, I am he who was prepared from the foundation of the world to redeem my people. Behold, I am Jesus Christ. I am the Father and the Son. In me shall all mankind have life, and that eternally, even they who shall believe on my name; and they shall become my sons and my daughters . . . 16 Behold, this body, which ye now behold, is the body of my spirit; and man have I created after the body of my spirit; and even as I appear unto thee to be in the spirit will I appear unto my people in the flesh. -- Ether 3:14 and 16
  22. I think the first and second degrees of the celestial kingdom are preparatory states for exaltation in the highest degree of glory. But there are those who choose to remain eternally single and will therefore never go on to their exaltation.
  23. Interesting thoughts on this point. I will test on my system and see if I get slower start ups with the setting on 1 core versus 4 cores.
  24. Wow this subject is almost two months old. Sorry for posting so late. I hope someone can benefit from the information.
