prisonchaplain Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Faith without works may be dead...but don't we all believe in resurrection? :-) Quote
Maureen Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 And the reverse should be considered; works are of little value without faith. M. Quote
mightynancy Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 What "saves" you, works or faith??? Yes. Quote
prisonchaplain Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Yes. You've been to graduate school, haven't you??? Quote
prisonchaplain Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Jesus Christ. And you've been to Sunday School! Quote
mightynancy Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 That's how we answer false dichotomies here in the Mighty household. e.g. Do you want bacon bits, or croutons? Yes. Quote
Traveler Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Remember "faith without works is dead". It is all about loyalty to G-d and covenants. The faith and works discussion has caused misdirection and misunderstandings for generations. The Traveler Quote

JThimm88 Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 So, it isn't faith or works! Then, which is it--loyalty to God or obedience to covenants? Well, keep in mind that in being loyal to God, we're supposedly being obedient to our covenants that we've made with him. To the OP, I don't remember the exact reference, but to paraphrase, we're saved by the grace of Christ, after all we can do.So, if you wanted to break it down, it's by grace (faith), after all we do (works).I always look at as, you can't really exercise your faith without working at it... and we can't keep commandments (works) without faith. It just goes both ways. Although I'm assuming that even with all of the works we do, God has the ultimate judgment. Quote
Hemidakota Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 (edited) Remember "faith without works is dead".See the Book of James in the New Testament...In the church, we have both but a few who resides in the center of both. There are those who believe 'works' will save them, yet, they lack the true faith. We have those who believe there faith will save them but refuse to do the work. What is admired, is the member who is centered between both. Not only they have the necessary faith, but they do the work without thanks. It is not work to gain the admirations of the masses or leaders, an indefatigable work to give glory to the Savior and the FATHER. It is not faith that can fake before the membership and reveals no Spirit. But they will bring the Spirit with them in every meeting. They are light of the world. Blackmarch Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Remember "faith without works is dead".Christ saves us. we come to him through works and faith. No amount of faith and works alone can save us without christ. When we come to christ works without faith is dead, as is faith without works. Quote
rameumptom Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 First, one must define the term "saved." Next, one must define the term "faith." If "saved" means being rescued from eternal hell and damnation in Outer Darkness, then one can be saved solely with faith and repentance. If "saved" means exalted, then one must have a high level of faith, which would automatically cause the person to do good works. These good works would be a natural outcome of faith, and not the other way around. Quote
mnn727 Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 What SAVES us? or What EXAULTS us There is a BIG difference between the 2 Quote
Elgama Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 So, it isn't faith or works! Then, which is it--loyalty to God or obedience to covenants? think its summed up very nicely by Loving God with all your heart, might, mind and soul. That is faith and the reason for the obedience. Quote
