theoriginalavatar Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Do you ever feel like you were born in the wrong time period? I don't, of course, mean seriously...I think we were born precisely when God wanted us to be. BUT!! Sometimes I feel out of place. I think I would have fit in better around 1876. Plowing fields, raising barns, hitching up the team to bring my family to church... What about you? For fun, what time period do you really "belong" in? Quote
beefche Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 2011--I like my washing machine, air conditioning, and Taco Bell way too much. Quote

theoriginalavatar Posted October 25, 2011 Author Report Posted October 25, 2011 2011--I like my washing machine, air conditioning, and Taco Bell way too much. You mean you'd trade biscuits fresh out of the cast iron pan for a chicken Chalupa?! Quote
theoriginalavatar Posted October 25, 2011 Author Report Posted October 25, 2011 You have been reading/watching Little House on the Prairie way too many times...Funny you should mention that...I'm quite the fan (I'm sure the avatar didn't give it away)...as are my children. It's more than that, though. I love the history of that time period...the good and the bad...and I realize that life was anything but easy.Besides, you didn't answer my question!! In which time period do you belong? :) Quote
beefche Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I've always been fascinated with the 1870-1880's of the Old West. I think I identify most with that independent, adventurous spirit of the pioneers and settlers. Quote
Suzie Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 Just pulling your leg theoriginalavatar. I am a fan of the books and the show myself. The time period probably middle 19th century, England. Quote

Plowing fields, raising barns, hitching up the team to bring my family to church...What about you? For fun, what time period do you really "belong" in?Yeah, I know what you mean. I think I would have been very happy living with a wood burning cook stove and would have liked to own a wringer washer, with clothes hanging on the line but having said that, as a baby-boomer I believe some of the very best years were in the fifties and sixties......way more laid back and not all the technology such as cell phones, texting, Ipods, computers and the list goes on and on. Kids don't know how much fun they are missing as we used to play outside from morning till dusk...we didn't even take the time to watch T.V. Different world we are living in today. Quote
RescueMom Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 Yes...I always wanted to be born during the space travel time in the future. I hear it's awesome, being able to travel in a space ship at warp 8 speed, through out the universe. ;-) Anyway sometimes I do think I was born in the wrong time. But here I am, nothing I can do about it now, but I would have loved to live in a simpler time....but I bet the people in the 1800 thought the same thing. Quote
confuzzled Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 Good question.........I've done some living history and I've done a couple of treks and there is a part of me that would very much think I could of done 1840-1870s. But 1787 also fancies me. Quote
pam Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I think I belong to the nobility class of the 1500's in England. I mean..who wouldn't want to live in a cold, draft castle with plenty of servants? Okay well maybe not many..but I love that period. Quote

Even prophets in the scriptures weren't immune to this feeling every now and then. Quote
Jennarator Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I think that once in a whilre, but my Patrarchail blessing says that this time was picked for me....so I live with it.... Quote
FunkyTown Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I should have been born in the year 2320. I figure 200 years from now, there's going to be some REALLY awesome things going on. Quote

Gwen Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I always tease that my husband and our 7 yr old were born in the wrong time. They enjoy work for the sake of doing it. They would much rather be out chopping wood and building a fire than doing something inside. I can't get my son to do simple things like unload the dishwasher but he will go outside and cut the grass and help repair the roof in a heartbeat, and love it. They enjoy complicated work. In our house we often joke if the world crashed tomorrow and we were back to a more primitive life they would be the only 2 to survive. I'm just fine where I am. I like flushing toilets, running water, fans, central heat/ac, internet, etc. lol I could adapt to a less modern life but it wouldn't be fun and I wouldn't do it without complaining. lol Quote
jerome1232 Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I would actually go for ancient, ancient civilization, "when all a man had was his sheep, his cane, and his beard." I'm sure it would be great for like... 2 days. It's easy to romanticize the idea of simpler times and a good hard days work, for a loaf of bread. Although It would be nice to not be so cooped up into buildings all the time, to not have to micro manage my time, and to raise my own food. Quote
Bini Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I feel pretty good about being born in the era that I was. If I was born back in the old days I might have been a slave or something. Who knows. Quote
annewandering Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I would be dead if I had been born in another time so its either now or in the future. I would like to have been born in the millennium. lol. Quote
Gwen Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 The millennium is the last time I'd want to be born in. We know all will need to be tested so those born in the millennium will have a period to be tested. I would much rather suffer the trials and then have peace than be born into peace and perfection to then be tested. lol Quote
annewandering Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 I was kinda thinking that maybe there would be less pain and babies dont die and that kind of stuff. But you have a good point Gwen. Quote
ADoyle90815 Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 For the most part, I probably wouldn't have made it past childhood if I lived any earlier than I do now, mostly from vaccines and sanitation. As a woman, I also like that I can vote, and that I was allowed to divorce an abusive spouse. In other periods, that wouldn't have been possible, and if he killed me, he wouldn't have faced punishment at all for it. Quote
