I just noticed that there are at least three threads in which I was the last poster. Then...the thread just died!

Either I have far more brilliance than I imagined, and am actually offering the final word on topics. :)

Or...I'm a thread killer!

I'm starting to question my purpose...not in life so much...just here.

*waves hand wildly* JD!!! JD!!! prisonchaplain posted AGAIN!!! I SAW HIM!!! And I'm not tattling, I'm telling the truth!

Hehe....yet your post is now the last post Backroads, and thus PC's post will no longer be the last post.

Now JD must wait until PC posts again, and no one posts after him. ;)

EDIT: Wait ... mine is the last post, darn it.

PC I would be careful posting anywhere publically that you are a killer of some kind. You could end up finding yourself working on the other side of the bars.

Greetings my friend prisonchaplain:

As you know I have been involved with this site and posting on the internet for some time. In many ways I believe the internet to be similar to discussions that take place in groups of people. Very often discussions become energetic when two of very different opinions go at each other. This will often generate other conversations as other individuals take sides.

In general it appears to me that a really foolish or stupid statement precipitates almost an "everlasting" response. I believe it is because everybody loves to criticize. But the bottom line is controversy generates lots of interest - whatever the reason.

In contrast it also appears to me that a well thought out intelligent post or statement may be well read - but what more then is there to say on the subject?

So in essence saying or posting intelligent concepts is a thread or conversation killer.

You can experiment with this concept if you like. You may have noticed that from time to time I will say something deliberately that seems somewhat disruptive to the trending thought process. Usually this is not so much because I disagree with you but more because I feel that important ideas have not yet been expressed and I attempt a very controversial statement to try to spark some real conversation on a subject that has become shallow in my mind.

Unfortunately this tactict generally renders others either over defensive and unwilling to open up about the deeper question at hand or it ticks them off and they become angry. It appears to me that your nature is such that you will always become defensive. And in the end I must face the regret that I have offended a friend and end the thought and in many cases apologize - which is strangely difficult for me.

Um, I'm certain that prisonchaplim is joking in this post. Just as I'm certain he is joking about hurting someone for commenting.

Traveler...My hope is to defend my ideas without becoming defensive. Defensiveness is weakness, and I try to reserve most of my frailty for my worst enemies...like donuts!

On a more serious note...I was attempting humor, and if anyone thinks/thoughts my comments were directed at individuals, or had some hint of angst or discomfort, please dismiss those thoughts. :-)

For the record - it is my goal in posting to first comfort those that have been afflicted. but there is also a purpose to afflict those that are comfortable. :D But for those that find new thoughts unbearable - I apologize for the offense.

I attend association meetings with a similar purpose. The board opens it up for Q&A and then calls on me for this gem: "Seeing as how all items on the agenda have been satisfied, and there are no more questions, I move that we adjourn this meeting."

Seconded and ayed <drops mike>.

I just wished people would laugh when I intended for that to be the response . . .

Maybe you are more like me than you realize - My wife tells me that the only times I am actually funny when I am attempting to be dead serious. :(
