Vort Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 Yep, almost always, unless there's a specific reason not to. Quote
Guest Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 Always. For me, the fun part of church services when traveling is the interaction of all these people from a different part of the world. It's so fun just sitting back and listening to their comments... even listening to the "announcements" in the beginning of Relief Society. For example, when I was in Houston - they were announcing in RS to drop off their filled backpacks by next Sunday. I found out that there was a problem of children displaced by Katrina coming to school in Houston with nothing but the clothes on their backs - they would even show up in school without breakfasts. So, they started a project of donating a backpack filled with school supplies and breakfast items (they had samples on the table of those breakfast drinks, granola bars, etc., that they can include in the backpack). We went to North Florida and my husband told me they announced a reminder for their EQ activity to go to Bro so-and-so's house to gut and clean 20 boars... We went to the Philippines and they announced in Relief Society that the youth is having a scripture swim-off... I was like, huh? So my kid - not yet a deacon at that time, but the 11-year-old kids in primary only came up to this chest, so the YM told him to attend YM activities instead of Primary activities - went to the swim-off... they went to the pier, jumped off into the deep water... and the leaders would say a chapter and verse and the young man would recite the verse and if he gets it right, he gets to swim out... and come back and pat the next guy in line, he gets his verse and he swims out... whoever gets all their guys to swim out and back first wins. I was worried - those waters are dark BLUE - very deep - and they swim out very far! Quote
pkstpaul Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 Rarely. I am thinking of vacations that don't afford a lot of time. I don't go visiting family for weeks at a time where going to church would be a break. It is great to get to a sacrament meeting, but that is generally a sacrafice when traveling abroad. Quote
Traveler Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 When traveling by my self - I always stay for all 3 hours. When traveling with my wife we only stay for sacrament meeting when we do not know the language or do not have a translator. On my first trip working in Taiwan I took a crash course in Chinese. Upon arrival I had a translator but my efforts to learn did not amount to much. My translator was off for the weekend so I attended church by myself. I attended church in the attitude fully expecting to be given in some part - the gift of tongues. Sacrament meeting was quite difficult. I know the sacrament prayers by heart but could not identify a single anything in the prayers. I attended Sunday School and there were pictures I recognized but I understood nothing at all. After the class the teacher approached me (because I was an obvious foreigner but thinking I may had been a return missionary knowing Chinese). I could not even understand him until he started speaking to me in English with an accent. He asked if I enjoyed the lesson. In sorrow I told him that I had not understood even a single word. and asked what the lesson was about. The gift of tongues he replied. I should have known - seldom are my prayers answered in a way I expect them to be. Crypto, classylady and Jane_Doe 3 Quote

Jane_Doe Posted February 6, 2015 Report Posted February 6, 2015 No I do not plan my vacations around church My thoughts exactly! I mean, I am a spiritual person and I love church, but I going to go to church in my ward, and not one I had to buy a plane ticket to attend. Quote
Crypto Posted February 7, 2015 Report Posted February 7, 2015 It can be hard to attend church when in the wilderness. If feasible then yes, generally. Quote
classylady Posted February 7, 2015 Report Posted February 7, 2015 We try to plan for all three hours. But, it seems like we're either behind schedule, or something is going on where we can't attend all three hours, or even any sessions. Quote
Backroads Posted February 7, 2015 Report Posted February 7, 2015 It's rather 50/50 for me. I recall once planning to stay all 3 hours but this "tourist" ward was uunpleasantly crowded that day with the foyer and the stands full. Quote
AngelMarvel Posted February 7, 2015 Report Posted February 7, 2015 Depends on where we are and why we are traveling and what our time limits are. We usually make Sacrament when traveling...but, even then we do not always get there. Quote
Palerider Posted February 8, 2015 Report Posted February 8, 2015 When traveling does anyone else stay for all three hours of services? It all depends....we always stay in most cases. While staying in Nauvoo we will attend Sacrament meeting and then leave. Quote
