laronius Posted September 19, 2017 Report Posted September 19, 2017 So I'm seeing a lot of stuff about this coming Saturday the 23rd being "another" big day in terms of fulfillment of prophecy. Not that I believe this one anymore than the others but this one is catching me off-guard. (I guess I must be a sleep Does anyone know where this one is stemming from? What this one is all about and why they suppose this day specifically? Quote

Is this another one of those false alarm things that have been going off in recent years about a big quake leveling Provo (and the majority of the Mormon areas south of Salt Lake...) type thingy? The only thing I've heard of is an LDS conference coming up (which I think the womens' portion is what Zil is referring to...) Quote
MrShorty Posted September 19, 2017 Report Posted September 19, 2017 If its what I am thinking of, it is a mix of astronomy, astrology, and scripture. The astronomy: Jupiter is currently located in and moving through Virgo, the virgin. (As an amateur astronomer, I like this site for looking at the motions of the planets among the background stars: http://www.nakedeyeplanets.com/jupiter.htm ). Jupiter has been in Virgo since last September. The Sun is also in Virgo, and the Moon will be passing through Virgo this week. The astrology: Jupiter the king of the planets, will have spent about nine months within Virgo's womb (wherever that is) and will be moving on towards her legs around this time in September. Somehow, this is astrologically significant. It seems that Regulus (the little king star and the brightest star in Leo the lion the king of beasts) also figures into the astrology here somehow, though I don't recall exactly how. The scripture: Revelation 12:1 and 2 is the main driving scripture, I think, which talks about a woman clothed with the sun and a crown of stars and the moon at her feet and giving birth. So, A woman (the constellatioin Virgo) clothed with the Sun (because the Sun is in Virgo) with a crown of stars (Regulus and other royal stars in the constellation Leo) and the Moon at her feet gives birth (to Jupiter as Jupiter passes through), and end times/rapture stuff starts to happen. Judge for yourself. Color me skeptical. laronius and seashmore 2 Quote

Of course, we are lacking many of the other signs still... Quote

MrShorty Posted September 19, 2017 Report Posted September 19, 2017 (edited) @zil: Maybe that is a reason for both of us to stay home, watch it together on the internet or BYUTv, and cuddle together on the couch (making sure to maintain a firm hold on each other). That way, it will be both or neither (as if I really had any aspirations that my puny strength could defy God's decrees if He really was going to only take one of us). @laronius: That sounds like an excellent idea. Jupiter is pretty low in the west, though it should still give a decent view in the twilight. While there, scoot up and look at Saturn (which is higher in the sky and easier to see), maybe over to the east where Neptune and Uranus are near opposition and check out these little blue dots. If I can get out of town and away from city lights, Andromeda should make a good target along with the Ring nebula and... What does the weather look like this weekend? If my wife comes home to find the house mysteriously empty, she may not know if I was raptured or if I just went out of town for a few hours. Who wants to go on a rapture star party? Rosh Hahana (the Jewish New Year) often occurs in late September, and some have tried to link it to at least one of the annual orientation visits from Moroni to Joseph. But this year, it falls on the 21st and 22nd. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosh_Hashanah Quote
Guest Posted September 20, 2017 Report Posted September 20, 2017 (edited) Yet another "end of the world" scare. A bunch of silliness, if you would ask me. I have just about given up trying to decipher the signs of the times based on the Book of Revelation. They rarely mean what you think they are going to mean. Case in point - the moon turning to blood. When I was a child, I thought this would literally happen, the moon would someday turn red. I think President Hinckley announced this fulfilled in October 2001 or something. Turns out, it referred to radical Islam (the "moon") attacking the West (turning to blood). Who would have thought? (An alternative theory is this sign of the time is fulfilled by an increase in crime happening at night). I still have no idea what the sun being darkened means, though. Point being - if you try and figure out end of the world dates, chances are good you will always be wrong. May as well always be prepared to meet Christ, since there is a chance you could die at any time and a much smaller chance the world could end at any time. Given that blood is only about a third the density of the moon, the moon itself would have gotten significantly larger (or the tides would have become much smaller). Quote

Not to mention, every time there was a harvest moon (on a semi-monthly basis) I would absolutely freak out as a kid! (It is questionable in my mind as to whether there would be any appreciable differences between a "red" moon and a "harvest" moon, rendering the most common interpretation of this sign of the times basically useless for making end of the world predictions).
