Vort Posted June 24, 2019 Report Posted June 24, 2019 https://www.foxnews.com/travel/air-canada-passenger-dark-empty-plane-alone I don't buy it, not for a minute. No one over four feet tall could possibly fall asleep in an airplane, certainly not so soundly that she never wakes up while everyone's leaving. I think someone's looking for free flights or other "compensation". (Though on a very slightly more serious note, I'm sure the crew must have a post-flight walkthrough procedure to avoid just this sort of thing.) Midwest LDS 1 Quote
Guest Mores Posted June 24, 2019 Report Posted June 24, 2019 I was unaware that commercial aircraft were left unused overnight. Don't they need to be constantly used to justify their cost? Quote
mikbone Posted June 24, 2019 Report Posted June 24, 2019 I totally buy it... Backroads, caspianrex and Midwest LDS 3 Quote

Google to the rescue. According to WP: This has happened before. It's apparently extremely rare. But it happens. Edited June 24, 2019 by Mores Quote

I'd say, "Is this a Canada thing?" but interestingly, this happened in IAH back in 2013 as well... https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/06/24/this-is-nightmare-woman-fell-asleep-mid-flight-woke-up-trapped-dark-plane-alone/?utm_term=.05f8b7d967ae Quote

Having grown up (dad was a flight engineer) and worked myself in the aviation community, I'm not surprised that a plane would be left unused overnight. They are required after a certain number of flight hours to do period checks or maintenance. Some they can do at the terminal, the more detailed has to be done at a repair facility. It may have been time for one of these servicings. Years ago when I was a Supply Logistics Manager in a facility that repair Navy helicopter and jet engines, the Navy was required to swap out helicopter engines after 700 hours of flight. So really not surprising to have downtime for an aircraft. Midwest LDS 1 Quote

Woke up to find myself alone, in the dark with the train car shuttled into a shed. Pre cell phones. I managed to get out through a very circuitous route. Union station Toronto. Missed my connecting train of course. Quote

Should I be concerned? Quote
