Vort reacted to a mustard seed in 2 Nephi 15:26-30
I don't know why but I get very excited reading these verses and understanding that very probably Isaiah was referring to our modern technologies and transportation. I guess I just find it so real, like it hits home, right in the chest; we can liken the scriptures to ourselves all we want and find messages and meanings applicable to our time but right here he is talking about us and the things we are so familiar with, trying to describe them to people who couldn't even fathom what we'd be creating now. This also is how I feel when it refers to "evil being seen as good and good being seen as evil" because of how much it speaks to our current struggles and the events and culture around us.

There is no doubt to give the benefit of. She's in the SL Tribulation today, glorying in her notoriety and openly admitting she applied for the lottery to be a part JUST SO that she could quit and publicly post that to Facebook [edit: this is not the case, as Maureen pointed out to me] -- while simultaneously claiming surprise at the publicity this generated. No adult is that naive. I have even less respect for her than I did before reading the article. I would link to the article, but I generally don't link to antiMormon sites. Not too hard to find if you look.

    What part of

    Was unclear?
The official revelation is that she exists... Full Stop.. End of line..
We assume that she is sealed to Heavenly Father and they One.  As we are commanded of God to be with our spouses.
But in this thread alone we see the difficultly we (and all religions) have in trying to explain in mortal terms how God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost are three but one.  Each group tries of course but outsiders always consider it to be a bit double speakish.  And that is with the ones we know relatively a lot about.
It is highly unrealistic to expect clear and understandable information about someone we know nothing about to cross religious divides when we can't even clear the air about the ones we do know and agree about existing.

Nevaeh, I am so very sorry for your loss.  It breaks my heart just to read it.  Since I personally know of no way for this kind of sealing to happen under the current policies, I recommend you discuss this with your bishop.  If there's a way, he should know it, or know who to ask.

@Maureen This is not a court of law in which "evidence beyond a shadow of a doubt" is required. It's possible you are right, and she only meant to share her objections within her tight circle of influence. However, the preponderance of evidence suggests to many here that the ex-choir member was deeply opposed to Trump's candidacy, and saw the choir's performance as her opportunity to broadcast that view far and wide.
BTW, FWIW, if I were a choir member I'd have been honored to sing for Trump or HRC.

@Rob Osborn, you seem like a good guy. I mean that sincerely. But you also seem like the kind of guy who gets an idea early on, then develops it over the years, and clings to it to the point where you read your idea into everything -- scriptures, temple endowment and other ordinances, General Conference talks -- to the point that when a prophet or other leader preaches something in direct conflict with the belief, you dismiss the words of that prophet or leader as "just opinion."
This is dangerous, Rob. You do not want to do this. I have witness, up close and very personal, at least two (probably three or four) other people do just this. They get a brilliant idea, as they consider it, and they nurture it along. Soon they lose objectivity and become unwilling to bear any criticism toward their pet theory. They no longer approach the matter impartially or "scientifically". They become deeply invested on a personal level in their idea.
And in every case, it leads them away from the light, not toward it.
This happened throughout Church history. It is happening today -- look no further than Denver Snuffer, John Dehlin, and Kate Kelly, to name but three obvious recent examples. This is a club in which you don't want membership.
I understand that your "kingdoms of glory" theory is beguiling to you. I also acknowledge that such ideas are not inherently evil so long as (1) you remain willing at all times to immediately abandon your pet theory when the Spirit OR the Church's teachings direct otherwise, and (2) you keep an open mind on the subject, never taking your theory too seriously. I think you are in violation of both caveats, and thus on dangerous ground.
I say this with honest concern. What we discuss here on this forum are trivial things of little importance. But your soul is not a trivial thing of little importance. And the attitude with which you are approaching this issue eventually leads to very bad ends, places you absolutely do not want to be.

Vort got a reaction from SpiritDragon in Does telling kids about Santa, Tooth Fairy, and Easter Bunny affect belief in God?
Yet I have an intimate LDS acquaintance who was so devastated to find out there was no Santa Claus that she lost her faith for a time, and when she recovered it to some degree, it took a strange form. That the Santa deception is harmless for some, or even for most, doesn't mean it's universally harmless.
I wonder what deep, Godly truths people imagine they're teaching their children with Santa that they could not teach more effectively by telling the truth?

Depends on the person. But yes, I think there is a real danger. We say "Santa loves you, he watches your actions, and he gives you gifts," then later we say, "Just kidding!" Then we tell them "God loves you, he watches your actions, and he gives you gifts." Um...I see a problem here.

So nothing wrong with "Correcting" something...  But you are not "Fixing" it.... that is as clear as mud..
Pretty much the thing you are "correcting" but not "fixing" because you have studied so much... Is the exact same thing that President Monson and the 12 in their collective years studying, prayer, and receiving revelation as part of their stewardships have decided not to do anything about.  But instead of "Correcting and Fixing' yourself so that you are in harmony with them... You continue to pound your head again the wall and self justify your actions with such logical twisting that you are "correcting" but not "fixing"

Except when you to take it upon yourself to assume its broken and that you need to fix it... when you know (or claim to believe) that God has a prophet and leaders that he has called for that express purpose.  Because that means that you are saying don't listen to President Monson and the 12...  Listen to me because I have studied it for a long time

I think what we really need to do is to start a petition to update the Word of Wisdom. We all know how effective it is to instruct God on making his commandments more palatable to our enlightened minds.

Legalizing recreational marijuana is a terrible idea. I've scene it affect people that I've known personally. They call it "the gateway drug" for a reason. When you make it legal, people don't see it as the drug it is and it becomes much easier for underage people to get their hands on it. I have some family in Oregon and it has become a HUGE problem there. When I go visit them, there's pot shops all over. Sometimes there is two or three that you can see from one spot. Sad.

I would be willing to wager large sums of money that the Clinton campaign never contacted the Mormon Tabernacle Choir about potentially singing at Clinton's inauguration. It is certain in my mind that the contact was made by Tump's people post-election.

We don't follow Jewish food laws.
Of course it's possible, just again, good luck with that.  These things come from God, not man.  Like when God instituted all those diet commandments in the Old Testament, and then Christ came and changed them, and then later revealed different ones when the WoW was revealed.

I don't get this "If it doesn't keep me from going to the temple then it must not be bad" sort of mentality :/
There is plenty of revelation through prophets telling us to take care of our bodies. Why does it require the threat of taking away one's temple recommend to get us to do things? Having signed piece of paper by no means guarantees us entrance into the celestial kingdom.
