  1. You know what? This is a workable idea
  2. No!! Not metal vs. punk wars part XXXIV !!!!! hehe MetalHead, you have the misfortune to have been born at a time when more than a few of us 'old people' know exactly what you're talking about when it comes to music. Anthrax, Black Flag, and Dead Kennedys were/are contemporaries of mine. I loved them and dressed the part, and believe me that got me more than a few looks at church and high school. The important thing is to have a strong foundation. How can you stand against the world if you are too busy being mad at little things? Why do you feel that people who don't think like you are synthetic? Do you really want people to think like you? I sure didn't How do you get this foundation? By amazingly simple things like reading the BoM, fasting and prayer, and listening to the prophet. It was not uncommon for me to be listening to my music while reading about Helaman and the Two Thousand Warriors, Abinadi and King Noah, or the nature of the universe in the Book of Abraham. Try to not read too much into the actions of others. Everyone your age is trying to find their own way, just like you are. Believe it or not in 5 years you're going to be asking yourself what all the fuss was about
  3. Indeed, some of us know much too well how that goes. Welcome to the site!
  4. It's great! I love it. I love how the gospel is spreading out in every direction, by any and all means.
  5. bjw, I hate to say it but I will anyways - you're in some major spiritual trouble. I suggest you go back to what you know is true, and that is prayer, fasting, scripture study, and more prayer. Anything else is idle speculation. Were you there in the mid-1800s? Were any of the authors of the books you've been reading? Even if they were they aren't Emma and Joseph and Brigham. So, if you weren't and they weren't then what you have is conjecture and speculation. You could have 4 people write a paper using the same quote and get 4 different views. MaDB is a good site, but sometimes they go completely nuts and off the wall as far as things of an eternal nature are concerned.
  6. I think the USA has picked the conflicts we've been involved in by how many nukes and potential for getting nukes the various regions/nations have. The Congo and Sudan have very little chance of that. Yes what is happening to people in these areas is appalling. You can see the fabric of society literally ripping itself apart. In some ways I think that's worse than genocide, because in a genocide no one has to fix their mind to accept the rape of their mothers/sisters/daughters and child soldiers killing their families and villages as a normal way of life.
  7. You prob shouldn't partake of the Sacrament, unless you have that itch in the back of your throat that just won't go away.... Meet the missionaries! If possible try to attend church with them the first time. Esp during fast Sundays They can meet you any time you and they can make an appointment. They do have a curfew though. I work nights too and it really stinks when I have to work the weekend. Most of the time I take a small little nap before church and suddenly it's 3pm Hopefully you live in the boundaries of an active ward, mine is kind've snoozy when it comes to week activities. I'm glad you found your way here. You'll find that Mormons are pretty simple folk, most of our heated discussions involve chocolate cake in temple cafeterias and the lineage of God
  8. Wow. Did you tell her your standards are much higher than hers obviously are?
  9. Me too. I guess you just don't know how others are perceiving things. Pale, you're cool. Anyone else out there who feels unappreciated, just let me tell you, you guys rock!
  10. Tell him to stop watching 'Saturday's Warriors'
  11. Sexual harassment isn't something done only by guys, you know.
  12. From what I understand there's a lot of people going there
  13. It feels like something I've always known but have forgotten from time to time. That's my view, others might feel different. God loves you, really and truly. He sent you here to learn and grow, and most important to go back to Him, but you've probably been told this before by your friend lol. Try to have a prayer in your heart as you go about your day. Sometimes I keep a running conversation with God, esp on days I really need support. I'm glad you found your way here, this is one of the nicest places I've seen on the web. Try going to mormon.org and LDS.org, I've spent hours just on the search functions, following my thoughts. I wish you well and hope you stay a while
  14. Belief in the BoM feels like part of my DNA, I've known (yes, known) since I was 13 about it's truthfulness. But don't think that gift has made life any easier for me than for anyone else who has to work at their belief. Sometimes I think I've been given this knowledge because if i didn't know, then my darkest hours would have broken me for sure.
  15. WoW bugs me a lot because you have only 1 job/character. FFXI lets you do all the jobs with the same character. Maybe if I played WoW first I'd think different
  16. I read that this morning and was totally appalled. Like I said before, we're all going to heck.
  17. Tell them you discuss underwear only after the 5th date.
  18. I kept trying to type 'fragrant' instead of 'flagrant' for the title. After the 4th time I decided to just go with my fingers
  19. Wow I never saw it that way. Great analogy! Growing up in the church I don't have anything else to compare it to, but remember in the movie the flashes of color signifying a truth to Bruce Willis about his current state of being? I think RL is like that, sometimes we need to be more aware of the eternal truths that surround us day to day.
  20. In regards to homosexuality, isn't that for unchastity and not for mere ss attraction?
  21. You're awesome, and your wife is too. I advise you to have a lot of bbqs this summer. Funny how that makes things better
  22. Me too, sort of. I noticed after I had my daughter and was feeling completely out of sorts I was relying on her testimony. How sad that a 3 year old would be stronger than her mom That got me off my duff, and now we both have good ones
  23. YIPES!!! I thought this was in the general discussion forum!!! ummm mods can you please move this? tyvm
  24. Abortion comes to mind. I just spent the last 25 minutes 'discussing' abortion with my baby brother. I stated the Church's stance, then realized I'd spent the past 20 minutes stating it over and over with someone who wasn't even listening I'm counting it as aerobic exercise. What other topics should never be discussed in mixed-political company?
