  1. Wow. Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong, they are weak but He is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus love me! For the Bible tells me so. :)
  2. I knew it!! Cool. I love those Friday nite lights. That is something that I will miss this coming school year. My wife and I plan to go to a few home games just so we don't get the grid-iron DT's. :) I like HS football more than NFL or even college. NFL is just too..oh..how do I say this. Fake is not the right word but maybe you get my drift. College is ok but I guess I'm just a simple country kinda guy. Do you plan to play for BYU-I? I realize it's usually the hotdog RB's and such that get the scholarships while centers, NG's and RG's do all the work so that they can get all the credit. It would be really cool to play for BYU I believe. Well, good luck and welcome again! This place is really cool to me with a lot of really nice folks. Of course it's the internet so we occasionally get some button pushers. Take care!
  3. The Wizard of Oz. Those flying monkies still scare me. And the hidden truth about Glenda, the "good" witch of the North. First of all goodwitch is an oximoron. She was actually the evil witch because she knew ALL ALONG that all Dorothy had to do was click her heals together three times and she would be back home but.....OH NO!!!! THE FLYING MONKIES, THE SCARY FORREST, THE POISON FLOWERS EVERYTHING!!!!! could have been avoided if that STUPID GLENDA THE "GOOD:...yeah RIGHT! WITCH OF THE NORTH would have told Dorothy the truth WAY back before she KILLED her poor sister smashing a HOUSE on her. GEESH!!!!...A HOUSE??? A LITTLE OVER KILL THERE DON'T YA THINK GLENDA!!! ... Whew! Glad I got THAT off my chest. Been holding that in since I was 3 feet tall. Thanks Wingnut.
  4. I may have missed it, but has anyone mentioned an opinion on "house HUSBANDS"? My wife is and was.... way before I met her a career woman. She is ABD (all but dissertation) finishing her PHD and is a progammer. It is her passion and she makes plenty. I've worked civil service for the past 26 years and am several years older than my wife, so, I will soon retire and am looking quite forward to being the "house husband". Yes, it's more work than I probably do on my regular job but I won't have any hang-ups with her bringing home a majority of the bacon. When I become a house husband will I qualify to join the Relief Society??? Just kiddin, that's WAY too much of a responsibilty. NO REALLY! Note:no disrespect at ALL to women of the Relief Society. I've learned recently how much you do and WOW! I respect you. Seriously.
  5. Welcome MB51. Hmm 51, let me guess. You were on the line/offense. Center? :) My middle son was center #75. Graduated this past May.
  6. HEY! Trolls aren't smelly and live under bridges waiting to collect cash. You are confused with TOLL. They can be smelly too but usually live on top of the bridge or multi-lane roads in a small glassed in case, and they DO make you pay to pass. I came here for the girls. I had no clue what I would find here but after being here a while I can tell you one of the big reasons I stay. Because this forum is a haven for people of many different faiths who try as best as they can to answer questions in a honest and courteous manner without bashing or being judgemental. This forum is not perfect, it is the internet and button pushers/trolls are just the nature of the beast. But compared to the many, and I've been in a LOT...this one is the best and it's because of many things besides the nice folks who answer questions. This forums has the best moderators of any forum I've ever been a member of and that helps tremendously. Thank you every one who is always there to answer my crazy questions and to the many who have the knack to do it in a funny way. (LM, and others) I also feel that I have something to contribute here even though I'm not LDS. If there is any person who is thinking about joining the church who is in a family that is totally non-LDS and you feel that it just won't work, that you will loose either your family or the church...I'm your proof that it CAN work. You CAN be LDS and still have your non-LDS family. It takes a little doing, time and perseverence but it can work. If I see anyone here who needs help or wants to know how I/we did it I will offer my guidance along with my prayers. But other wise, I like it here cause it's fun!
  7. Ok folks. Help me out here AGAIN.... I am seriously in the learning mode as you can tell. Did I just read someone say they were a member but were not converted yet??? So, joining the church does not automatically mean you are leaving any past faith like Baptist, Catholic etc and once a member become LDS? Please break down the "converted" term for this simple country boy. :) Thanks...AGAIN!!!
  8. Thanks Jonathan for this thread. LM, you're are just too much bud. I realize questions from non-members sometimes get crazy real quick like. Mine are always for the purpose of learning unless I'm just cuttin up with someone. To be very honest I would be truly upset if my oldest son (member) even THOUGHT about having his wedding anywhere except the temple and it doesn't matter if that temple is on the other side of the Earth, I will be there. Maybe not inside but everywhere else because that's what families are suppose to do. I've supported him 100% so far even when other family members were not so happy about it and I will never allow anything to seperate us. Since I chose long ago to remain close in his life I now have many LDS friends that are like family to me so his wedding will be the best ever and not because of anything fancy or how much money is spent. The most important thing is my sons relationship with Heavenly Father and his new wife. That alone will be something to hoop and holler over for hours and it's enough for me just to be with them. :)
  9. What about the church in our stake? Do members get married there if a temple is too far away from their home town? And if so, can non members attend the wedding there? While we're on this subject may I ask one more? Does the old time custom of the brides parents footing the bill still apply if the brides family can't even come to the temple wedding?
  10. What does the Bible tell us about the anti-Christ and more specifically, when he will arrive? Aren't there a certain number of things that are to take place first? Have those things already happened? Honestly, I choose to spend my focus and energy on this day right now worshiping and praising Heavenly Father for giving me one more day and for loving me like He does. I also do my very best to shine that love from Him towards every person I meet as I strive to follow His commands. Tomorrow is not here yet and if bad things do happen just like in the past Heavenly Father will take care of His own.
  11. Jammies?? I thought those were meant to be kept on the shelf by the bed in case of a fire.
  12. Please forgive me for asking something so obvious to most folks and for unintentionally going a little off discussion, but, it seems by the way many here speak about testimony it's meaning is closest to the last one in my Webster: "A public profession of religious experience". My question is for a general definition for "testimony". Please forgive me if this is something that I should start a new thread for. If I should please advise and I will. I am honestly wishing to know because it doesn't seem to mean the exact same thing it does for non-LDS folks. Thank you and again I'm sorry if asking on this thread is not appropriate. :)
  13. That WAS a little wierd. It takes all types I've been told to make up this diverse world of ours. This mans thinking is what I ponder about. I'd like to be able to ask him....ah...excuse me sir but...why? Just to hear his reasoning behind it. Close family prayer in the home, when no one else is there I can understand but in a Temple, Church etc? When we pray if we could get everybody in the entire city to hold hands and pray together no matter what thier faith, I think it woud be the most awesome thing...but, I'm just one person with my own opinions. :)
  14. I like French Toast!
  15. Hi LocalFarms! I love you buddy. And I love your boxer, he is a Boxer, right? This forum has all kinds of people, LDS members and non-LDS (like me) and I honestly feel that's a big part of what makes it great. There is no such thing as a perfect forum. You're always going to have someone that wants to push buttons or basically rain on your picnic. Why? I think it's because they have some sort of insecurity themselves and making others hurt or feel bad somehow makes them feel better. I don't understand all that but it is how it seems some people are AND you've got to realize something else too, this is the internet. In spite of all that, this forum has been one of the best forums I've ever been a member of and I've joined a bunch in the past. Like someone else said, there are a lot of loving, smart, wonderful, funny/witty, compassionate people here who are always there to help, give support and advice and the advice is many times from a scriptural viewpoint which is really wonderful to me. I think you did the best thing when you left the thread that started to get crazy and moved to another or started your own. Not everyone here is like me who throws love out verbally to everyone but I know for sure most here are really good folks. I'm pretty new myself and it takes a little warming up to but it's really a great forum. :) What's your Boxers name???
  16. Welcome Syphax. I'm a bass player, both 4 and 5 string. As far as the genre? I play both kinds.....country, and western. :) Just an old Blues Brothers joke, never mind. Played drums for many years but switched to bass near the end of highschool when our bass player was killed in a car wreck and we couldn't find a replacement. Drummers were a dime a dozen and I'd been picking around on bass for a while so I took it up for good. That was about 35 yrs ago. I still play but now-a-days it's just in various local praise bands and also in a Kairos prison ministry band at Calhoun State, Morgan Ga. Do you have any of your stuff on Youtube????
  17. I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said "Body piercing saved my life." I wasn't close enough to see the picture above the text so the words struck me as pretty weird.....until the picture came into view and it was the arm/hand of Jesus Christ with the huge nails in them. I get the point and agree with the meaning but it still was a little weird wording it this way. I've wanting to get ink for a while now but can't decide on the art or text, OR where on my body to put it. Any suggestions???? WHOOPS! sorry about changing the main discussion topic. Disregard if you'd like.
  18. Grits are actually a 1st cousin to corn. It's ground Hominy. So, if folks in the west or mid west call coke "soda", and folks up north call it "pop" is there an area somewhere in the middle where folks call it "soda-pop"??? Cause I have heard it called that before. And yes, the noon meal is called dinner or lunch, the evening meal is nothing but supper. Sweet grits??? Folks, if you want a sweet breakfast make you some oatmeal or whatever that mush stuff is they eat up north. Don't contaminate our most loved food on Earth, and yes...grits are groceries! We also eat cheese grits with our fried fish meal. It's like peanutbutter and jelly. They go together. And another yes. YES WE DO POUR SYRUP ON OUR BISCUITS!!! We also pour it on salmon croquettes. It may just be a custom in the deep DEEP southern parts of Ga but it's the way my family has eaten it for as long as I can remember.
  19. Way down here in the booger bushes of Georgia-Deep DEEP southeastern USA. 1. Jello--side dish or dessert? entree (utensil not required for solid blob-eat John Belushi style) 2. Soda, pop, or coke? Coke, then you must ask or tell what kind..orange crush, Sprite, grape..etc 3. Mac and cheese--side dish or main dish? Both..even during the same meal. I like mac n chz 4. Biscuits and gravy--tear up the biscuit and eat with spoon or split biscuit and eat with knife/fork? neither, poke a hole in the top center with your thumb and pour no less than a pint of syrup in and over biscuit, then use small shovel. (when I die just put a biscuit in one hand and a bottle of syrup in the other and I'll just SOP my way to Heaven!!!) 5. Grits--sweet or savory? Sweet?? anyone who ruins perfectly good grits with 5 pounds of sugar should be shot. Cheese, and plenty of it with salt and pepper. OH, and a blob of butter. 6. Bathroom tissue--over or under? We keep the Sears catalog "under" the foot stool in our outhouse. 7. Green onions or scallions? yep! 8. Pecan: pecahn or peecan? peecan, peenut and anyone who has a name with an A in it like Gary you pronounce it with a long a. gAry, mAry etc. Yeah, I'm a hick...wanna FIGHT ABOUT IT???
  20. Before I post this I wish for all to know that I am not LDS. I am stating this because it appears to have upset some people on the forum in the past that are members when I posted something LDS related I guess because they believe I am attempting to be something I'm not or that I am trying to fool someone else into believing I am LDS when I'm not. Now, since by disclaimer is out. I am posting this because the Holy Spirit whispered something to me when I read it. Of all the scriptures I've absorbed from the BOM Helaman 5:12 is my favorite. :)
  21. I once felt bad because I had no shoes........until I met a man with no feet.
  22. There only being one phone in the house and it was in a central location, the hall in the house I was raised, and it was mounted on the wall about 5 foot high so I could never reach it. Still can't. :)
  23. Thank you very much for sharing your views. Please know that I did not in any way mean to belittle the Relief Society or the women that are a part of it. I am obviously, as it has been mentioned a non-member and knew nothing before now about Primary and Young Women so I did not leave that out on purpose. I asked for your views because I am wishing to learn for reasons that are completely positive. I've been here a while and I'm pretty sure that most know I mean no harm. I respect every ones views and please, continue if you will. The information is very helpful to me and the humor I hope makes everyone smile, (LM).
  24. Please share your feelings and/or knowledge. Does anyone think the authorities given to LDS women will ever change? I know that young women can go on missions but are limited in things they can do like Baptize and other various things that say a Melchizedek priest can do. While on thier mission what else may they do besides teach. Will it always be that women can not hold any position higher than those in the Relief Society? Thanks.
  25. Same here TrueGrits. My best buddy in the world died in a car wreck our highschool senior year '79. We used to talk about everything under the sun. One night we were talking about death and we made a deal. Who ever goes first try to make contact with the other. It happened very soon after his death in a dream but a dream like I've never had before nor since. No long speech, just I'm ok. BUT.....when he told me he didn't talk with his mouth. It was some other way. I didn't hear it with my ears, I felt it with every fibre of my soul, being able to totally understand his exact emotion and description of what he was telling me. There's honestly no way I can explain it fully in words to you what I felt/heard/experienced when he said it. But I can say that what he said in two simple words "I'm ok" could fill every encyclopedia on Earth a million times meaning, what was passed from him to me was more information than my brain has ever, or will ever recieve in my entire lifetime on Earth and he did it in a split second. It changed my life. What was it???? Did Heavenly Father somehow allow my friend to follow thru with the deal we made?? I can't possibly know that and I'm surely not going to say that's what happened. Could have been I ate too many pork-n-beans the night before. I don't know but, it happened. Just my 2 cents.
