    I DO NOT KNOW.
Just to make that clear. I don't know. I have no insight into the BYU admissions process.
That said: I don't believe it, not for a moment. I can't imagine that BYU Admissions Office has access to the tithing records of Church members. The very idea that an admissions office could go check up on the tithing status of the parents of potential students is so outrageous that I don't think it's worth serious consideration. I suppose it's possible, like the Illuminati are possible. But I don't buy it for a second.

I think it’s also often helpful to acknowledge the sacrifice that obedience entails in a non-self-congratulatory sort of way; to show that you do understand how hard it is but to affirm that it *is* possible.  Maybe something along the lines of “When Sister Fether and I were newlyweds we had a lot conversations about whether she was going to keep working once our kids started coming.  We wrestled with it a lot, but ultimately when Baby Fetherling came along we took the leap and Sister Fether told her boss she wouldn’t be coming back from maternity leave.  That decision has hit us hard in a lot of ways; especially as we look at our fetherlings’ non-existent college savings accoint and when I compare our car to the ones our friends are driving.  But I love watching our fetherlings with their mom; and the relationship that’s been established wouldn’t have been the same if our kids were being raised eight hours a day by someone else.  And we’ve learned a lot about the law of tithing in some very soul-stretching ways.  I know that as parents, we all can only do what we can do; but overall I’m glad our family has been able to live as we have, and I believe the Lord has been watching over is.”

ive been meaning to respond to this, im a stay at home dad of two under two so I'm easily sidetracked. my story is a long one so ill give you the condensed version.
i was born and raised in the church, left when i was 17 and didnt look back for many years. wandered in the mists so to speak after i let go of the iron rod (not sure i was ever really holding on to begin with) filled that spiritual void with anything i could thatd numb me to the reality of life without the spirit. (didnt realize this at the time, i thought i was just having a great old time)
ended up married to a non member(many years later) who is a wonderful person so i wanted to get my act together, started slowly reintroducing myself to the gospel and this year i was able to bless both of my sons. my wife is still a non member but shes uniquely very supportive of my return to faith as well as raising my children in the church. i never in a million years thought id be who and where i am today. grateful to my savior and heavenly father for his patience and love.

To fill in the time I usually spend on FaceBook (I’m fasting from FaceBook this week), I have been doing logic problems.  I probably am not using my extra time as wisely as I should. 😇

For me, the hardest thing to do will be no FaceBook.  That’s how I stay in touch with my married children and keep up with my grandchildren. I don’t think I overuse FaceBook.  I usually skim through it several times a day.  It’s also how I know what’s happening with my neighbors and ward members. I had the opportunity to minister to one of my inactive neighbors last week.  They posted on FaceBook that their car wasn’t working and they had no way to get their boys to the bus stop for the military academy their boys attend. I was able to help by driving the boys and picking them up on Thursday and Friday.  I hope they don’t need help this week because I won’t know unless I’m contacted directly.

I’m hoping to have more time to work on family history. I just pray that I, personally, will make good use of that time and not disappoint my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ by squandering it. I have good intentions. I will need to be on guard to stay on top of my good intentions and remain committed.

Good to hear the prophet talk about this.
This trumps the excellent and valid arguments of search engine optimization and name recognition.  It is not rebranding - it's re-committing to follow pretty clear and unambiguous revelation.
    "Responsible media will be sympathetic"
First reference - long name.  After that, The Church.  The Church of Jesus Christ.  The Restored Church of Jesus Christ.   Every other situation seems to be, acknowledge the Savior in some way in our speech.

I’m accepting President Nelson’s request to the sisters to give up social media for 10 days. I know what that will entail for me—FaceBook, and some of my online games I play. How about you?

Chilean, I don't want to sound preachy but I am sure the OP knows exactly what he/she did. I don't think it is helpful to remind a brother or a sister their past transgressions specially after the repentance process took place. The Lord is clear when He says he does not remember them "no more". So even though I understand your frustration, my heart goes out to anyone who has chosen to be honest with themselves and confess their sins, particularly during a mission. It takes a lot of guts. It is time to support each other, it could be us...

Hi and welcome elwplm!  Honestly, no matter what happens, your road is kind of the same.  Just walk the path of a disciple of Christ, no matter what.  If you return to the mission field, walk the path there.  If you are reassigned to a home-country mission, walk there.  Released and 'thanks for your service'?  Walk your path at home.
Thinking about things this way helps me deal with the uncertainties of my life.  When big changes out of my control might be coming, I find it comforting to think about how I can be a disciple, be everything God wants from me, no matter what the actual change.

For people who know me, they find it definitely out of character that I would actually be a moderator on a website. Haha.
One of my quirks lately is I have a fascination with watching flight simulations of airplane crashes. You Tube happily notifies me of any new videos that are out, and I can’t seem to help myself, but watch the grizzly scenes. It’s amazing how real these videos seem.

You are so right without my support system I would be in a much different place now. From day one when his dad was arrested and me finding out I was pregnant two days after, I have literally have the most amazing support system.
Update: for now there will be no surgery just monitoring him. Well, I shouldn't say no surgery. There will be no surgery on the prolapse.
But, there will be surgery most likely a tonsil removal and another attempt to repair the laryngeal cleft he has. We will also be following up with neurology to see if we need to switch up medication, he had a sleep study and the doctor believes he may be having short little seizures in his sleep that we haven't noticed. Along with central sleep apnea now that she thinks may have been developed because of the seizures...  After years of fighting for Emerson to get a sleep study we finally won the battle and came out knowing why he doesn't sleep well and what we can do to fix it. He stops breathing for about 20+ times in an average hour period caused by both central AND obstructive apneaas well as a few possible small seizures throughout the night.
We have also FINALLY been okayed by his doctor and insurance to go through with behavioral testing. Started that process well over two years ago and finally there. Both excited and almost scared? I don't know hard to explain. I am so happy that we will finally maybe know why he has these random outburst of hurting himself and others. As well as hopefully finding a solution to all his sensory processing issues. But, worried about what these diagnosis' will bring?
It's been an incredibly challenging , amazing journey that I wouldn't trade for the world. Even with all the bumps and bruises gained along the way. It's just extremely hard to see the light sometimes during those bump and bruise moments.

My family isn't LDS.  I'm a convert.  I converted BECAUSE of the truthfulness of the doctrine and the "we serve God regardless what public opinion is".  If I'd wanted watered down religion there are plenty closer to my house that I could choose from.  That said, I'm not getting worked up about "what ifs" and I trust the Prophet has a plan from God that will make perfect sense to me if and when it's rolled out.

I have seen many people who love their pets as much as a family member. When we had to put our aged dog down, it was sad. But, the amount of sympathy and support we received from co-workers, extended family, friends, and neighbors was surprising to me. I grew up on a dairy farm and many of my “pet” chickens, calves, piglets, and lambs grew up and became our dinner. I guess I don’t understand the “pets are family” mentality.
