**Mod hat on for a moment**
    Guys, let's settle down.
@Zarahemla, normally questions about moderating are best brought up directly with the mods via private message.  Since you've raised the question publicly, though, I will note that
    1)  The "report" function exists because sometimes, we as mods don't catch every problematic post.  Our failure to publicly act on a post does not necessarily indicate our approval of said post, so please feel free to use the "report" function as you deem appropriate.
    2)  While we all want to be sensitive to mental illness (such disorders being far more common, statistically, than most of us are willing to acknowledge); the simple fact is that in a discussion forum it is natural to expect some degree of coherence from each participant.  It's one thing to be open-minded enough to change your opinion when presented with additional evidence or sound argument--that, I think, is a major reason discussion forums like this exist.  But it's something else entirely to suggest that some sort of disability exempts one's own opinions from the rules of logic and consistency that (should) prevail in an open discussion.

mirkwood reacted to prisonchaplain in Trump vs. Military? . . . Seriously?
The Democrats and moderate Republicans are, once again, falling into Trump's trap.  This feud the media's reporting on, between Trump and the Kahn family, is built on a silly narrative. The argument is that Kahn's son died serving our country, so, since Trump is blaming the father for his criticism of Trump's immigration policies, Trump must be anti-vet, anti-military, and, of course, completely anti-Muslim.
This foolishness is likely to help Trump for two reasons.  #1.  Nobody is talking about Hillary Clinton.  Even President Obama is focused on Trump.  Don't forget Trump's key strategy in the primaries--all news coverage--even 'bad'--is free advertising.  #2.  Does anyone seriously believe that Hillary Clinton will be more pro-military, pro-vet, and pro-American greatness than Trump?  How many vets are seriously considering voting for HRC, because Trump allegedly disrespected a vet's family?
The narrative in a few weeks will be how amazing it is that Trump recovered from this mess.  Many moderate and liberal pundits will also be shaking their heads at why Hillary has gained no traction.  Never mind the obvious--nobody is listening to her or talking about her, because the news is all about Trump.
Oh...and however obnoxious people think he is, he sure comes across strong. Isn't that his rap--he may be a jerk, but he's one that will fight for us (the working man, the American nation, etc.)?
BTW--I'm not endorsing anyone this year.  I'll cast my vote, and get reconstructive surgery to re-attach my nose the next day.

That's a reasonable way to put it.  I only know Baltimore firsthand (and Washington DC) so while I suspect it's the same in other large cities, I can't claim to know from personal experience.
Baltimore is a pit, largely because they keep electing leaders who keep the poor where they are and then blame their political opponents for those problems.  Kinda like Detroit, only Baltimore has better geography so it's helped, but that isn't due to any competence on the part of elected officials there.

Heh this is 21st Century American politics, my friend.  It doesn't mean that at all.  What will happen in time is that when the result comes in, half the people who have been watching the story will feel vindicated and the other half will see it as evidence that the system doesn't work.
The only difference will be which half is which.

When they make me emperor of the world, everyone will be required to run through some of this before they can get a high school diploma.   Then I'd make Unixknight do it twice, just 'cuz I'm emperor and that's how I'd roll.

mirkwood reacted to prisonchaplain in Whites more likely than blacks to be shot by police in violent crimes
Some thoughts. First, and foremost--Satan is all about NO LIVES MATTER. Believers must continue to "love the sinner, hate the sin." We must live God's righteousness, and not give in to anger and hopelessness when they lie and accuse us. Scripture says they will do this.
As for BLM, I cannot support the movement proper. They have incited hatred of law enforcement, based on partial truths. They have physically assaulted co-eds, whom BLM members deemed not dedicated enough (read: How dare they study in the library for midterms, when we are demonstrating!). They bullied an LBGT pride parade--one they were invited to--into making concessions, by stopping the proceedings, midstream, and demanding concessions.
On the other hand, we would do well to listen to distrust many black people feel towards law enforcement. Some of it is self-fulfilling prophecy, but not all. Apparently some agencies have seen great reductions in weapon-involved encounters through trainings in confrontational avoidance and other communications-oriented courses. So, there are some solutions.
Finally, we must be discerning, as people of faith.  There are parasites on both sides of the issue, that gain influence by inciting blacks to feel victimized and targeted by law enforcement on the on hand, and who play on white fears of lawlessness and unfair accusations of racism/bigotry on the other. They are all about self-promotion, and ramping up emotions. They do not care about solutions.  We should denounce those on our side (it does us little good to worry about the other, since we appear self-interested when we gripe about 'their side').

Lee's excommunication was annulled posthumously; at which time Lee was (one presumes) highly unlikely to continue the sort of conduct that would have heaped condemnation upon him.  If he--or anyone else--is to repent and make any sort of progress in the hereafter; it seems reasonable to conclude that he is going to need the covenant of baptism at minimum.  Thus, I wouldn't be surprised to hear that *most* excommunications will be administratively undone at some point after the parties involved are dead--even if that isn't the church's current practice; I think theologically it's inevitable.
