  1. I agree with the sentiment except for one thing, [steps up on personal Soap box] children are a lot more cognizant than most adults admit to, and let their children be. True it all depends on the child, and the younger and closer to the baptism age of eight the less likely they are to be mature, not to mention that society doesn't really let them grow up until 25...because 18 starts college foolishness...or they are still in high school... Joseph Smith had his first vision at 14. (not to mention the many young biblical characters) wait... [steps down from personal soap box] Sorry...different topic.... Considering how society treats young people, I understand your justified anger at detractors.
  2. I can see both JojoBag's and Eowyn's perspectives. There is certainly a time and place for exortation which members are often slow todo, and everyone and every ward has theirown weaknesses. On the otherside, I see self righteousness in the judging of others as a Major problem as well, something that I keep encountering... many times before. I can't say who I agree with more. I can say, that I don't like to jump on my local wards gossip and judgement bandwagon...but I certainly struggle myself in judgement against those who I see as exercising unjust, unrigteous, hypocritial, or unchrsitlike judgement. My 2 cents. In good news, I do think there are several good points JojoBagbrings up. 3. Time to take a break...too much internet for the last couple of days.

    1. Athena9

      Athena9

Sure. It in a way sometimes seems to sort of "bleed" a person. Rest up.

  4. I got it, despite what my post may seem as getting.
  5. That is probably a case where the bishop decides, likely getting counsel from their stake president (which may go all the way up the chain of authority)
  6. Um...something about that name makes it seem like a very slippery slope to forming another hate group....
  7. Links to the sources are now more readily available around the web. That happened surprisingly fast. I still view the headlines as twisting the information.
  8. The first link makes no sense, or is twisting the information. Actually it looks a lot like it's twisting information to me, things that are a natural extension of belief in the church, like what constitutes worthiness and if an unworthy person should give blessings etc.
  9. My relative loves photography, but dislikes paintings. I love paintings, and rarely enjoy photography. To each their own. (By photography, I mean large pictures of things in an ascetic/artistic sense. By all means I love family photos)
  10. It looks very reminiscent of high class (By this I mean well done) Spanish influenced architecture of the region. You can see the same influence in many buildings in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California. Or even spending time watching a few old westerns, Zorro (old or new). To me it actually looks like a fusion of that influence with what the Nauvoo temple looks like.
  11. I know of only one Lord. The G-d of Abraham. If they know of more than one Lord, then i'm afraid it is them who are being deceived.
  12. Same here, but the presentation of the sci-fi can make a big difference. If it looks like it aims to be realistic but then ignores reality, that breaks the illusion for me.
  13. That sounds like the path I went down towards the beginning. I realized that black or white had to convey some sort of information likely a binary state, true and false, greater than or less than. After hearing the hint I lined up ratios of what every person would see and every ratio had even or odd. It then sorta clicked after that.
  14. Oh I frequent at least one alternate religious forum, and you can trust me when I say simply being LDS and posting can get you flamed.
  15. Let me clarify the implicit in my statement. Sincere in their stated motivations for good. (or in other words sincere in their statement of truly being curious about what they heard and wanting to understand where we are coming from and clear up some misinformation) Hopefully you get what i'm saying...I can always write an entire paragraph trying to narrow down all the loopholes in what i'm attempting to say...but that would be a bit redundant and TL;DR (too long didn't read) for everyone.
  16. I figured out the other method... but someone around me gave me a one word hint ... so when someone, likely Vort, shows up with the answer they win. This was my hint (white text): ,,,,,,,,,,,,,, |RATIO| ``````
  17. It works, but there is certainly a mathematical alternative. I'm better at breaking the system rather than finding creative ways to work within it.
  18. Everyone passes their hat back, the person in back passes it forward. Everyone now should know what the hat is that is on them(since it was in front of them), except for the person in the front. But I have a feeling this would be considered cheating. I'd work though, and I don't think there was any rule against passing hats. Works for the cooperation part.
  19. (This is not exactly doctrine of our church, but my own personal thoughts of the matter) I don't think God has a particular problem with setting bounds to live by. Bounds are like a fence warning of a cliff which is to mean sin. In the same thought we need to understand more than just the bounds we need to recognize the difference between sheep of our fold, wolves, and even as we are warned in the bible of the sheep in wolves clothes. The use of labels to comprehend, to recognize this is not sin. I believe this view has strong standing in biblical wisdom. It is regrettable that your initial posts had a very strong similarity to those who often attack our church. If the mistake is on us I would hope that you would be forgiving of us, and those who in their weakness erred. I do also believe that if you stick around for discussion, trying to learn from your mistakes in how you approached us through likely little fault of your own(I'm going to give you the benefit of believing you are sincere) that it may go better. Though it is to be expected that we will still assert what we believe here, even if it may be at odds with what you do.
  20. This reads like an article designed to reveal new shocking information...but I don't think this is all that new. Maybe shocking to some, but certainly not new.
  21. meh. Good for her. It may seem strange to me, but if she did it on her own accord, I don't have any problem with the purity certificate.
