  1. There have been psychology studies that indicate the way and frequency the media present these news stories can vastly affect the number of mass killings there are. I'll have to dig up some sources when I have the time. Long story short, the more wide spread and 'glorified' (a sick and perverse sense of glorified) that these events are broadcast increases how much it happens. It is becoming (or has become) a culture...something not seen as much else where. [Edit] https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/crucial-conversations/201204/the-media-is-accomplice-in-school-shootings http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0117259 http://www.claytoncramer.com/scholarly/JMME2.htm
  2. I suspect for logistical reasons, they will likely be living around utah, or will be soon after being called. It just makes sense.
  3. I can't wait until we get martians as apostles!
  4. I think, therefore I am, but I and the world around me could all be but an illusion. Holographics cards always seem to be more rare and valuable anyways
  5. It looks like there might be star trek stuff to the right. It's probably some sort convention. I'm guessing that like minds like similar things...such as pokemon and ponies. Or maybe the Pokemon sell well.
  6. While the art at the stand is not a bad representation of the mlp characters, something about it seem unappealing to me. It's probably that there is a lack of an interesting background, and other things in the images, though a few of the smaller ones might be better, but it's hard to tell... Applejack is in no way best pony btw.
  7. What's wrong with dressing up? Other than it's fun. What's wrong with collecting toys? Other than toys can be fun. What's wrong with decor? Other than it's a decoration of something you enjoy. What's wrong with creating booths and sharing things that you like, or believe in? If it comes down to it all of these things are pretty similar sports fans with their uniforms (dress up), balls/equipment (toys), team flags etc (decor), and get togethers (conventions). Any type of fan really...music... contemporary art...etc... The only difference is one is deemed socially unacceptable. Now if some of you want to create a discussion of creating and worshiping idols, that can be had, but it can be found more than just with bronies. I've met quite a few otherwise normal seeming missionaries who are also bronies btw.
  8. I love the sound of songs in minor. I find it distasteful how many people call songs with large portions in minor as funeral dirges. (not the first time nor last i've heard the that exact same wording) I guess we all have different tastes. I do think that the Happy Birthday song does seem to be sung in minor quite often...but I don't think that is how it's supposed to go though
  9. There are several LDS bookstores in california, this is what google says: https://www.google.com/search?q=lds+bookstores+california&oq=lds+bookstores+california San Francisco, Sacramento, Fresno, LA, San Diego. Not necessarily convenient if you live away from all of these places, but if you are ever passing through/by you could go take a look.
  10. In reference to something mentioned above; If you are interested there is a whole slew of LDS books. You can find them generally in LDS books stores. The one that most members would be familiar with is Deseret Books. I also find quite a few intellectually minded books can be found through the Maxwell Institute or FAIR mormon online bookstore.
  11. Maybe ward council is a serious problem in your stake? Stake conference seems like it would be the appropriate time and place to take care of issues within the stake. Though I do empathize that sometimes the message that is given doesn't seem like the one we ache to hear.
  12. The church doesn't have an answer to whether aborted babies are born at some other time. I'd wager a guess that having an opportunity at living life during the millennium is also possible.
  13. There seem to be several LDS religious forums so the target population is somewhat split. I would also hazard a guess that personality type demographics play a part. Generally Introverts (MBTI) seem to be more active online than extroverts, and as a guess, following with normal population demographics, there are more Extroverts. Also we spend a large portion of our time interacting religiously/service etc in our free time, so there isn't quite as large a drive to interact online. If I were to guess.
  14. Symbolism isn't just restricted to temples. While I can't say for certain, I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is yes.
  15. Kissing is okay, I wouldn't let it bother you too much. It only becomes a problem if it evolves into more than just a kiss. There is a difference between a peck, and smothering each other. Since kissing is normally involved with dating behavior don't do it unless you are actually dating.
  16. It would be awesome to compose the music for heavenly conchords of angels.
  17. I'd like to do Art, Music, and building systems.
  18. I came across this article about Ashley Madison in conjunction with the hack. Apparently not only did the data get exposed, but the site also lured participants to spend money with bots. http://gizmodo.com/how-ashley-madison-hid-its-fembot-con-from-users-and-in-1728410265 Just goes to show that you can trust the untrustworthy to be well... untrustworthy.
  19. Interestingly enough the article of Ben Spackman's I first looked at starts off with a quote from the very series I was asking about. It seems like a good supplement. Thanks for pointing it out :)
  20. If this catches on, BSA will have a problem with improperly worn uniforms. I like the post though.
  21. Its mainly a book filled with questions to prompt deep thought. It looks to be used with the standard works (as in is nearly useless without reading them side by side). Which is why I was curious about what people think about it. Thanks for your thoughts :) You replied really quickly!
  22. I've seen several of the books in the "Made Harder" series such as can been seen Here: http://maxwellinstitute.byu.edu/madeharder/ and Here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=dp_byline_sr_book_1?ie=UTF8&text=James+E.+Faulconer&search-alias=books&field-author=James+E.+Faulconer&sort=relevancerank And was wondering if anyone has read or used them. I was thinking about possibly getting one or some of them for scripture study, but was unsure if it would be worth it or not. I would like to hear about your thoughts, or reviews of them.
