I might be sharing this. I'll even attribute it to "Average Joe"

I can understand the pool rules. Drowning is the #2 cause of death of children, the younger the more likely. #1 is car accidents. You aren't insane though, some summer camps are basically time to run around unsupervised...well when they can get away with it.

It would make for an interesting simulation using what current knowledge we have of past populations and current populations to see how far one individual's (say family of lehi) genes would carry. Then testing if different locations or conditions would make much a difference. It would probably take a geneticist, and anthropologist to put a model together. An amateur model would still be interesting to see, especially if it had some cool data visualizations.

Collusion between state and LBGT groups to punish baker

Fascism is pretty dang efficient. If you want an effective and efficient government, it is a good way to go. Don't forget to check your other ideals baggage(tsk liberty, tsk democracy) at the borders though, cuz it cuts into the efficiency. -
It's hard to say it is disproven, because lack of evidence is not necessarily evidence of lack. You are right in asserting that one need not immediately accept lehi as the principal, and only, ancestor of the american indians, since evidence for that view is scant, if you are basing it on a need for rigorous evidence. I don't think that is what Vort is saying though. Vort is right in that there is reasonable enough reasons [such as DNA propagation as he mentions] (and maybe preliminary evidence) for the typical faith based view. Oh something I stumbled on quiet awhile ago (non-lds sources, if it makes any difference), There are genetic markers in, if I remember right, in the Cherokee tribe that would be expected in those of middle eastern decent (The pool of people is actually much more vast than just middle east, but around that area). Cool BOM is True! oh wait, However scientists have been unable to identify if this is the result of interbreeding with old world immigrants. They have gotten pretty far back but not quite far enough for any firm conclusion of this curiosity. And to confound things further, they have found DNA in the ancient ancestors who lived in the Americas (probably before lehi's time) that may have middle eastern decent. It is also interesting to note many of the tribes traditions state that they came from the east. Lot's of water in the east. lol hehe :)

Do you feel positive, neutral or negative about Evangelicals?
Crypto replied to prisonchaplain's topic in General Discussion
I was going to say take a look at this graph http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2014/07/16/u-s-evangelical-christians-are-chilly-toward-atheists-and-the-feeling-is-mutual/ But then I realized, Mormon opinions weren't accounted for in the study. My feelings aren't negative for in person interaction, haven't interacted with any self declared evangelicals. The one's I know about are nice enough people. Online is a bit of a different story. (Though I get the feeling a good portion of the time people may not exactly be who they say they are.) -

Why is quality interfaith dialogue so rare?
Crypto replied to prisonchaplain's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I generally find people are not interested in speaking about religion. Even if they say they are religious themselves. Otherwise I find the dialogue of good quality normally. I personally also tend to stay away from discussing deeper matters until i'm comfortable with the people. I lurked on this site for a couple years before actually making an account. Same thing happens in person.- 47 replies

How exactly do you see this as offensive? It seems pretty straight forward cause and effect. The life style of parents has a big impact on how offspring learn to behave, thus the life style of sin which often(ultimately always) brings about unhappiness would be learned by the children and then bring unhappiness down the generations. Wouldn't that be seen as a curse?

I really like this painting too. It is a nice painting. I'm going to have a bit of fun, and do a little bit of analysis on a few things in this image! (I hope this isn't too wordy...or unwanted) Key: Bright red lines = 1/3 vertical divisionsDark red lines = 1/2 vertical and horizontal divisionsBright blue = 1/3 horizontal divisions, and non-dashed is eye level.Darker blue = Eye levelGreen line = perspective linesBlack arrows indicate lighting, and general direction, but not exactly.Color dots indicate areas of color that stood out. Lets begin with perspective! The solid blue line is where the horizon of the image would be. This can be identified on the left since the wall work of the temple converges slightly downward towards the horizon, and the line below converges slightly upward towards it. In this image it helps draw the eyes of the viewer to important aspects. It is high in the image, so that it shows more of earth, than a skyward or heavenly view. It is literally showing things from an earthly view (though by knowing the context, it is an earthly view of heavenly things). It also lays within a 1/3 division of the image, (also called the divine ratio) It is considered a beautiful ratio and often plays an important point in art. The green lines being extended from a three dimensional object when painted properly should converge on the horizon. Quite likely due to small inaccuracies in my extensions it doesn't quite match up. (Even if my measurements are precise, it is pretty symbolic to point towards a horizon that matches with the tops of mountains) The composition is largely diagonal, which contributes to it's sense of motion. I'm sure something could be said about how many of the elements are steady (even the prophets sitting) while the image is in a sense, in motion. President Young is centered on the left third of the image, a key position of importance, which is contrasted by Brother Woodruffs slightly off right third leaning in towards the center. The eyes will be drawn from President Young, to Brother Woodruff, the to another prominent position the glasses held in hand, and then to the book held in hand. There is a circular/oval rhythm of motion from the placement of features. The circle and circular motion directly relate to divinity. The oval shape in the rhythm makes it more dramatic. Brother Brigham's glasses are on, this might allude to the glasses being used for sight, and in this context being actively used for insight. A symbol of a prophetic mantle. President young is in a position that conveys a sense of dynamic stability. His left hand though is exactly in the center of the image. This positioning is significant in that it is a place of static stability, and is often used to show steadiness, in religious imagery you will often find Christ in this position. The position is a rock and anchor, from which the hand is also being used to support the book, which is now interestingly being mostly held, by Elder Woodruff. The book is still in it's first few pages. (I believe this lends support JAG's eloquent commentary) The mountains seen through the window are another significant feature, being a symbol for a holy place near unto God. The colour palette of the painting is fairly simple and mostly natural. There is reflected light, that can be seen where the white dot is. It gives the appearance of a pure white light, which is of an interesting contrast to the more yellow (or heavenly golden?) that can been seen where the yellow dots were placed. The only other yellow feature that I saw was the cane, which is being used to support President Young. I also noticed (maybe it's only my computer screen) that there appears to be a very subtle yellow lighting directly behind President Youngs head within or on the temple wall, much like a halo. This leads me to think that the yellow lighting is spiritual light, which the cane also represents, which is being used to support the prophet. I like it :) Good find!

Sounds like he has depression, says I from my internet armchair position. I really wouldn't recommend you avoiding other families and people just because of the tears and feelings. Please don't make the mistake of isolating yourself.- 30 replies

I've never watched the show or anything, but since this is related to the discussion TLC Pulls '19 Kids and Counting' in Wake of Josh Duggar Molestation Admission https://www.yahoo.com/tv/tlc-pulls-19-kids-and-counting-in-wake-of-josh-119614188615.html I feel sorry for the innocent family members.

The best course of action is to avoid them. Don't get involved with them as much as possible. If it's truly a sociopath they can and will cause problems even if you try and extract yourself from the situation later.

Oh just use the family dns addresses 208.67.222.123 and 208.67.220.123 . They are prefiltered, regardless of the network you are on. https://support.opendns.com/entries/46060300-FamilyShield-Computer-Configuration-Instructions

You can set DNS settings on the network adapter that is contained within the laptop for open DNS. Your local device DNS settings take precedence over any upstream (a.k.a. router) settings. Just as a side note, if you use alternative DNS settings you won't be able to use the internet at ward buildings with wifi. The church blocks DNS requests to non-church DNS servers. (Password depends on windows account privileges) You could also use k9-webfilter. It's free. I don't think it works by white listing though. It's quite comprehensive, you could enable all the filter categories and then make exceptions(whitelist) for sites you want I think. (Software uses password) Oh and I think windows also has parental control options. You will need to make a non-administrative account and then set the controls up. Now might be a good time to ask what operating system you are using (Email login to change settings)
