  1. Could I make a sock puppet if it is clearly indicated it is a sock puppet. Such as a username saying "Crypto'sSockpuppet" and then a disclaimer in the signature stating "Crypto and CryptosSockpuppet are the same person"?
  2. Sometimes? I recently experienced something like that. After logging in to the normal login, the redirected login, or the if you are having problems logging in log in, normally manually going back to lds.net would show me as logged in. If not there is a new login problem.
  3. If you do use them, make sure to clean and dry the neti pot well.
  4. Lets just imagine what would have happened if Nixon or during Nixon's time if this had happened. Or something similar to targeting political groups....
  5. Prisonchaplain, you are quite the charitable person, and are certainly not quick to anger. I have a lot of respect for that.
  6. It was alluded to by other posters, but the posting style of your first post, and many of the other questions you asked were nearly word for word 'got you' type questions that posters who seek conflict with our church post. It has happened here before so even if they were genuinely asked it tends to provoke a very defensive posture from many people. No one likes what they see as pitchforks and torches coming to their own home. Good wishes to you and your study!
  7. The biggest issue I see from this, is that it seems like both sides are speaking in two different languages, often seemingly purposefully misinterpreting what the other is saying....though I get the feeling it isn't 100% purposefully, just that it seems that way.
  8. Going along with what several other posters have already stated. Many of the books in the New Testament were written at different times, along with many other early christian documents that never made it into the bible. A concise listing dating the early christian writings, and scholarship on who they believed authored each work can be found here: http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/ Alternatively I find "THE NEW OXFORD ANNOTATED BIBLE, New Revised Standard Version" a good source for concise information regarding dating, authorship, and commentary into historical and religious practices at the time of the writings. To save time I'll quote a list showing the timeline from the before mentioned site " Date Name of document 30-60 Passion Narrative40-80 Lost Sayings Gospel Q50-60 1 Thessalonians50-60 Philippians50-60 Galatians50-60 1 Corinthians50-60 2 Corinthians50-60 Romans50-60 Philemon50-80 Colossians50-90 Signs Gospel50-95 Book of Hebrews50-120 Didache50-140 Gospel of Thomas50-140 Oxyrhynchus 1224 Gospel50-150 Apocalypse of Adam50-150 Eugnostos the Blessed50-200 Sophia of Jesus Christ65-80 Gospel of Mark70-100 Epistle of James70-120 Egerton Gospel70-160 Gospel of Peter70-160 Secret Mark70-200 Fayyum Fragment70-200 Testaments of the Twelve Patriarchs73-200 Mara Bar Serapion80-100 2 Thessalonians80-100 Ephesians80-100 Gospel of Matthew80-110 1 Peter80-120 Epistle of Barnabas80-130 Gospel of Luke80-130 Acts of the Apostles80-140 1 Clement80-150 Gospel of the Egyptians80-150 Gospel of the Hebrews80-250 Christian Sibyllines90-95 Revelation90-120 Gospel of John90-120 1 John90-120 2 John90-120 3 John90-120 Epistle of Jude93 Flavius Josephus100-150 1 Timothy100-150 2 Timothy100-150 Titus100-150 Apocalypse of Peter100-150 Secret Book of James100-150 Preaching of Peter100-160 Gospel of the Ebionites100-160 Gospel of the Nazoreans100-160 Shepherd of Hermas100-160 2 Peter" Notice how many books/epistles/writings that are in the bible were written after Galatians, (especially notice the synoptic gospels)? Also notice that many of these early christian writings DID NOT get accepted into the bible as well. Also in similar fashion to Galatians 1:6-9 we find an earlier example Deuteronomy 4:2 If we take a similar view to this scripture most of the bible would be gone. Scripture historically was kept on individual scrolls and not as a compiled book, so in like manner Deuteronomy and Galatians refer to distorting that which has been revealed by God, which is once again repeated at the end of the book of revelations. I've included verses 3 and 4 as context into why the command at verse 2 was given. This is why, using contemporary information we can justify having works outside of the canonized bible. Though because of our belief in ongoing revelation, regardless of what scholarship seems to indicate, we can accept the Book of Mormon as Another testament of Jesus Christ. Does this make sense?
  9. Hope cdowis doesn't mind me stepping in! Just as many Protestant churches believe in a reformation from corruption of true doctrine and/or practices, so do Latter Day Saints. The difference is that we believe reform wasn't what was needed but restoration from God. In that context the LDS see thoses verses in Galatians very similar to how prisonchaplain seemed to relate. Corruption, apostasy, heterodoxy, constitute what "Another gospel is", not an actual book, or letter, but the contents of such.
  10. But what about all the evil spirits that come out before all hallows day? I thought the costumes were so they couldn't recognize us?!
  11. What is that substance made of? It's a mystery. What if I told you that substance is will?
  12. Maybe to cook with depending on the dish. Likely no other circumstance unless it was part of employment, like at a restaurant. Since other people aren't under covenant to not drink I don't really have a problem with other people using it, if they want it they are free to opt to get it themselves.
  13. I would hope they are continuously keeping an eye out and preparing for forces that may ultimately be destructive towards the church. Trying to second guess that we will be leaving the BSA seems pointless until it happens...if it ever happens.
  14. Caffeine can be used for both good and bad....pretty much like any other medicine, or even food that we partake into our bodies. Explicit commands to not eat/drink certain substances* seem closely related with a large number of people eating/drinking without moderation. *[coffee, tea, alcohol, tobacco,(illegal drugs)]
  15. I learned something today. I just found out why so many people find premortal existance and the whole we are all brothers and sisters so offensive. Even knowing both positions, I had never put the two and two together as to why people would react so negatively.
  16. I find this sort of information interesting. I'm not at all surprised by this though.
  17. All of these are viewed as sin that need to be repented of in the LDS faith. Your title question implies that there is a conflict with this scripture, when there is not. The good news is that Jesus is Lord. Be of good cheer. We celebrate with you in our Lord Jesus Christ and it is through him and no other that we can find the way.
  18. Add one more line that you quote and we might even almost seem to agree
  19. I'm the same way with reading actually, for me reading is much more vivid and affects me much more. I have to be careful with what I read.
  20. Something I like to keep in mind, is that many of the bible stories if recreated into movies would very likely be rated R. Something else I like to keep in mind is that most rated R movies don't seem to have the same merit as the bible stories either. If something holds up to that standard of 'merit' I might watch it, but if it goes out of the way to be 'over the top' I probably won't regardless of rating. I also know internationally movie rating systems are different, and i've seen members watch movies that were rated poorly in the U.S. but seen as acceptable where they were. It surprised me at first, afterwards I started trying to gage which movies to watch based on my very subjective view of 'merit'.
  21. I personally find GTA distasteful. I have no problem playing many First Person Shooters though. Maybe I have a bit of a double standard. If I was like my grandfather, I'd be talking about how air soft, paint ball, lazer tag, water guns, rubber band, potato guns and nerf weapons were all immoral.
