I have nothing helpful to contribute to this topic, but it appears you all are cooking hot over here! There I was minding my own business watching the news about a Cheeseburger Stabbing and the scroll on the bottom said "HOT!" thread so I popped over to see what was going on.

The stilts I built add about 14 inches.  I'm well over 7' tall in the suit, which is crazy when you meet people tall enough to almost look you in the eye in their normal shoes.
I'll wear it to the occasional con or maybe church Halloween event.  It's physically exhausting to wear so I won't do it often.

TilKingdomCome - only a couple of answers...
The cost of a mission currently is $400 a month USD.
So the cost of 24 month mission is  $9,600.
You or someone else helping you pay for a mission pays your local Ward/Branch that $9,600 either up front or in monthly payments of $400.

Your mission, Houston Texas, USA would collect those funds from your Ward and usually pays your rent directly to the landlord, you are not involved.
You do not pay tithing on your mission. Each month you are given an allowance to spend for items. It all works off a very conservative budget system.
There are not registration fees for being a missionary, but you will need to have some specific items purchased for your personal use first.

So after a marathon full-out work session with the help of my buddy and my wife on Saturday, we finished the barebones suit:

And got out to AwesomeCon in Washington, DC yesterday.

We also got to kill photographers from BrightestYoungThings.com.

    Let my kids live, though...

Yes I do this.  I understand they charge more for snacks and drinks because their staff typically has to clean up when people make messes, but the massive prices amount to gouging, in my opinion.  I admit that it's a bit dishonest since, on some level, by going to the theater you're agreeing to abide by their rules, which include a prohibition against bringing your own refreshments, but I still do it.
Only within family, which is a feature now a part of Netflix anyway.
    No I wouldn't do this.  It's using a friend.

I did this once a couple of years ago but it was an extreme emergency.  I was literally on the verge of soiling my pants.

This one's pretty hard to do in an age when we all have our own cellphones, so I guess the analog is simply not  answering the call, which is within my rights to do.

No, never done that.  Your mom might be right about that though.  Movie theaters make the vast majority of their profits on selling concessions, not tickets.  If I were that theater manager, I'd rather your mom watch 3 movies for the price of 1 but buy plenty of popcorn and soda than to see only one movie during her visit.  In fact, I'm surprised double features aren't more common.

Yeah, I'd do that if I had friends or family arriving shortly.

    1.  No.  It is specifically written in my theater's rules and regs.  They can kick you out for bringing your own food.  It's their theater, it's their rules.  You don't like it, go to a different theater that allows you to bring your own food.  I go to the theater almost every weekend that everybody there knows us.  I respect all of them just as they respect me and give me excellent service.  Go AMC!  With the awesome reclining reservation-required theater seats!
    2.  No.  That is tantamount to piracy.  Also against the rules established by the movie/TV business.
    3.  Yes!  Absolutely!  My siblings fought over who gets to drive my handicapped dad places!  This is not against any rules.
    4.  Yes.  Also not against the rules.  There is actually no law that says you have to be the same gender as the sign on the bathroom door in any of the places I've been to... including public places.  Using the bathroom that has your gender on the sign is more about social organization than rule.  I've gone to the men's restroom (not single-occupancy) twice in my life - once when the women's room was closed for cleaning, the 2nd time when they ran out of toilet paper and I had to go to the men's restroom to get some...  The first time, my husband went in there with me.  The 2nd time, I was by myself, there was nobody in the restroom and so I ran in there and out lickity split before anybody walked in.  You can go to any private place including Chik-fil-A before the NC bill and you will not find "bathroom gender rules" in their customer terms and conditions.
    5. Caller ID has been around for a long time.  But if someone else picks up the phone and they ask for me and I didn't want to talk, I tell them I'm busy.
    6.  Yes and No.  This is against the rules of movie theaters.  You can get kicked out of there for this too.  But, I have gone to another movie after my movie finishes without paying for it.  Many times.  I ask the manager of the theater if I can and when the movie is already well started and there's still available seats (my theater has reserved seating), the manager lets me sit in.  I do this a lot for movies I've already seen that I want to see again.  The cool thing about reserved seating is... if somebody is movie-jumping and is sitting in your seat, you can kick them out yourself.
    7.  I don't think I've ever been to a no reserved-seating event/place.  At least, everytime I've reserved seats, they've always been allowed - at least I thought so.  But if I were in one, then I won't reserve the seat.  Respect.

    1.  Yes, unless posted otherwise.  It's private property and they can set their own rules.
    2.  Never.  This is clearly theft.  It's exactly the same as shoplifting.
    3.  If that is the only reason they are being invited, no way.  That is dishonest.
    4.  No, unless it's an emergency.
    5.  No.  That's lying.
    6.  No.  That's theft.
    7.  NO.  That's very selfish.

Royal Skousen has suggested that "scourged" might have been a miscopying onto the printer's manuscript of the Book of Mormon of the original word "scorched". Since we no longer have that part of the original manuscript (is has been long destroyed), there is no way to check this theory. But Royal Skousen probably knows more than any living man about the process of the transcription and publication of the Book of Mormon and the mistakes introduced thereby. So this is a possibility to consider.

This is false. It is "how" they are solved by prayer that is fundamentally misunderstood.
I find from personal experience that his is also false. It may not always be the case, but I believe that generally, sincere prayer does, indeed, make things easier. Once more, it is the "how" that is often misunderstood.
    This is true.

There's something at odds in these two ideas here. You resisted it, but feel like you weren't given strength to resist it?
Regardless, that's not how it works. God will give us strength, yes, but He will never remove opposition because that would be contrary to his plan and contrary to His will, which you pointed out yourself, He won't do.
There must needs be opposition in all things. There must needs be temptation or we have nothing to choose between. This is God's plan. He allows us to be tempted to see if we will choose, being enticed by both sides. If the enticement is removed, there is no choice left to make.

Similar to what LP wrote, perhaps enough of the temptation was removed (or more likely, you were strengthened just enough) that the temptation could be resisted - thus helping you develop strength.
For what it's worth, at one point, about 5 years ago, I began praying for help changing in a particular way (for my heart to change, basically, which is pretty much what you were praying for).  I prayed for this every night and morning (often, I still do).  After about 3 years, I realized, my prayer had been granted, but so imperceptibly that it took years and I didn't notice it until I thought back on when I started that prayer and was far enough from it for the change to be noticed by my flawed, human perception.  Be persistent.  Do what you can (if there's nothing direct you can think of, just do the best you can in every way), and eventually, the Lord will change your heart.

Are you one of those people that would love to share the gospel but are a bit shy or don't know how to do it?  Share a meme.  One of the best ways to get the message out there.

Three things that have helped us grow our garden:
    1. When we take family trips in the car to neighboring areas we usually pick up a new plant each time. Then when it grows in the yard, we can be reminded of our trip!
    2. When non-members take walks and say something about our yard in passing, I say something like "How would like it if a couple of us came by your house and brought a couple of these plants to put in your own yard?" If they say yes, our family PLUS the Missionaries come by to do service and give the Missionaries an in with the non-members. Each time we lose plants this way, we are encouraged to plant even more than before.
    3. Cut and swap plants with others, exchange plants. It grows the variety and spreads the love around.
It would be neat to see other's pictures too!

And why can't they become friends?  When I was growing up, my home was the "home away from home" for the Elders.  I seriously don't remember a time that we didn't have a set of Elders at our house just hanging out.  That was 40+ years ago and I'm still in contact with many of those same Elders.

We have this hideous old dresser we sort of attempted to fix up last year... to be replaced by a dresser we bought. My MiL was going to take it despite the fact we made it useless. But it's been sitting on the back patio all year and I'm sure the cute little Mexican couple with the impeccable yard bordering ours thinks we're losers and who knows what our other neighbors who have been saying to their mom/landlady who happens to work with me.
So we're turning the drawers into planters and my husband even wants to turn the dresser into some sort of terraced planter. Take that, Pinterest.

NeedleinA got a reaction from Blackmarch in For Mormons, when is the Sabbath?
From lds.org, Gospel Principles Chapter 24: The Sabbath Day
    "The Lord's Day
Why was the Sabbath changed from the seventh day to the first day?
Until His Resurrection, Jesus Christ and His disciples honored the seventh day as the Sabbath. After His Resurrection, Sunday was held sacred as the Lord’s day in remembrance of His Resurrection on that day (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 16:2). From that time on, His followers observed the first day of the week as their Sabbath. In both cases there were six days of labor and one for rest and devotion.
The Lord has given us a direct commandment in these days that we too should honor Sunday, the Lord’s day, as our Sabbath (see D&C 59:12)."
Doctrine and Covenants 59 Section Heading:
" Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, in Zion, Jackson County, Missouri, August 7, 1831. " August 7th was Sunday.
    D&C 59:12
" 12 But remember that on this, the Lord’s day, thou shalt offer thine oblations and thy sacraments unto the Most High, confessing thy sins unto thy brethren, and before the Lord."

Your approach is wholly wrong: it's sick and immoral.
Now, we want your wife to enjoy her smoothie, don't we? And is it not your duty to protect her? So, it's not wrong, it's not sick, and it's not immoral for you to perform quality control to assure the proper drink gets to her, and to prove that it is not poisoned or otherwise tainted.

Everything you see has been planted/placed by 4 little boys and their parents. When we bought the house it was only grass and one dying shrub. Many family nights in the "garden"
EDIT: we live in a Zone 4-5, so we have to baby our plants each year!
