  1. My faith in the Constitution (both State and US) is absolute. Does Essex count?
  2. Whoa... did I miss some Traveler fireworks from another thread? I've had several rounds with you Traveler. No need for apology. Do I need to apologize?
  3. LOL! You're right. They probably don't. I mean, when the Sheriff debates was going on, even my husband didn't know there were debates... or the names of the guys running for Sheriff... I don't wanna make you think my husband doesn't practice good citizenship but as far as the Sheriff goes, I think he just checks the guy with the R next to his name...
  4. I have more reasons, but I can't vote. Filipino, ya know. 1.) His foreign policy position that is tied to his energy position. https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases/donald-j.-trump-foreign-policy-speech https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases/an-america-first-energy-plan 2.) His trade policy position that is tied to his tax reform position. https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/us-china-trade-reform https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/tax-reform 3.) His immigration policy position. https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/immigration-reform 4.) His healthcare reform position. https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/healthcare-reform I like all of these. Especially when you put it side-by-side with Hillary Clinton's. To be honest, I cringed at the way he called all the journalists to task a couple days ago. But I'm very sure the die-hard Republicans have been waiting for somebody to have the courage to do it. I just wish he'd hire me as a speech writer and have him memorize a few nicely worded stuff that he can roll off of so it won't sound like just a plain rant but actually an organized statement. But, at the same time, I find it refreshing that you have a guy that will stand infront of pressers for 45 minutes and not shrivel. Try getting Hillary Clinton to do even just 5 minutes of a non-prep'd and non-seeded presser like that! For the Republicans, this is a boon - they finally figured out a way how to fight back against the slanted media. Katie Couric should be quaking in her suit... or so we hope.
  5. It's obvious to me. I lived through Martial Law... I know what it feels like having military people controlling the town. It's entirely different than cops running around town in military gear. It takes more than just what they wear to make them quack. Right. Especially when you're from another country. I always tell my husband - yes, I know you won't see your children for months at a time, but trust me, it is much better for them to actually experience life in another country... I bet it's even less echoey than life living with the opposing political party. Those 2 year missions are really a gigantic benefit to the young adults. It's one thing about the Church that is really cool.
  6. I'm not in the habit of telling everyone where I live beyond the State I live in. You're one of the very few that know it. It was an issue brought up in your part of the state when somebody got pulled over by a bearcat. And it's also an issue brought up in the southern part of the state after Ferguson because the south is predominantly Democratic and the issue is tied to the Democratic platform together with the racial issues. Other than that, Floridians in general don't much care if the cops have military gear.
  7. Sure. And you don't find them on the job driving down Elm Street... so, obviously, the guy responding to a drug bust in their camo gear is not military. So, what's the problem with that? Explains the 2 very different views of America that you have. I'm in Florida. Lots of uniformed military people running around, eating at McDonald's and stuff. We like seeing all that military uniform. It's like McDonald's is all of a sudden 100x safer because one of them is eating there. So, the Sheriff in these parts got accused by his opponent in the last debates for "militarization" as having divided the community from law enforcers. It wasn't a popular rhetoric so his opponent changed it to the racial make-up of the office not "looking like" the community it serves causing the division. Anyway, the "militarization" Sheriff got re-elected. So, yeah, people in these parts don't see military gear on tactical law enforcement teams as divisive. In any case, law enforcement should remain in State control and the Feds should just leave the States to it. So, if you don't want militarization in Maryland then that's fine. Just as long as you don't expect Arizona or Florida to have to do it too.
  8. @unixknight works in Maryland and @paracaidista508 works in Arizona? Okay, I guess that explains it... Governor Brewer didn't go toe-to-toe-and-a-pointy-finger with Obama for no reason...
  9. Of course it's miraculous! None of us can do super science. So Jesus must be somebody much much greater than any of us.
  10. These are from Hudson Jeans. The style is called Viceroy Knee Shorts. At the mall, they sell Hudson at Model Citizen or sometimes at Nordstrom.
  11. On @unixknight's main point... Personally, I don't understand how soldiers are not part of the community... or that they create a "divide". Soldiers are very much a big part of our community and we are with them. We just spent Memorial Day honoring those who died. We're gonna spend Veteran Day honoring those who lived. Now, if they're wearing North Korean military gear then yeah, big divide. I think the people who think that soldiers are apart from us are the Jane Fondas...
  12. I think what he means is he doesn't believe there's anything beyond death because... death is the end. So good or evil in heaven or wherever he doesn't want because he has to die first... and that's the end.

  14. One God. That's the Mormon Theology on that subject. From the Title Page of the Book of Mormon: Which is to show unto the remnant of the house of Israel what great things the Lord hath done for their fathers; and that they may know the covenants of the Lord, that they are not cast off forever—And also to the convincing of the Jew and Gentile that Jesus is the Christ, the Eternal God, manifesting himself unto all nations From the Testimony of the three Witnesses of the Book of Mormon: And the honor be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, which is one God.
  15. On Real Estate: Ever since Bill Clinton (with the help of a Republican Congress) required banks to lower the criteria for mortgage loans so poor people can own houses... the writing was on the wall. This is the type of government insertion into the free market that is guaranteed to muck it up. Every Real Estate businessman - from the little single-house-flipper to the Trump Organization - knows this is going to be a bubble waiting to happen. The only thing you can do is ride the wave and make the bubble burst so the market can correct itself and hopefully slap the idiots in government upside their heads. When your money is tied up in Real Estate, you flip while the market is headed towards the bubble. When it gets close to bursting (and the government has tried their very best to kick the can to the next Congress to deal with maintaining the bubble) you hold your money and pray for the bubble to finally burst so you can buy properties again. That stupid bubble has caused all of Trump's Atlantic City bankruptcies. So, many of us who were invested in Real Estate (I had a rental)... said the exact same thing Trump said that Elizabeth "Pocahontas" Warren with the high cheekbones is trying to paint into the classic democratic-bleeding-heart-narrative. We needed that bubble to burst so things can go back to normal and we can make money again! And that, my friends, is why the Democratic Party CANNOT take the reigns of government in November. They hate it when people make money.
  16. On MRAPs and "rare use"... So... Tampa Bay local government spent $22,000 of taxpayer money to purchase 2 used SNOW PLOWS. Yes, you read that right. Snow Plows in Tampa Florida. When did it last snow in Tampa? Well... it did snow in Tampa back in 1977... a staggering 0.2 inches of snow. Hah! I mean, that may be very rare but it justifies the purchase of super cheap snow plows right? Okay okay... if you would stop laughing at the sight of snow plows on the streets of Tampa... These 2 snow plows have been very helpful in clearing the roads of debris after a tropical storm or hurricane. And they were a lot cheaper and faster than bulldozers. But yes, bulldozers wouldn't have been as easily ridiculed. How does this relate to MRAPs? Well, from what I understand, the DoD had an MRAP oversupply crisis when a previous administration wanted a robust military and the next administration didn't. So, the DoD offered the MRAPs to law enforcement meeting certain criteria for justification of its use so it can meet its budget. So, the cops only have to pay for the cost of re-locating the MRAPs and their maintenance and they get to use it but the DoD still owns the behemoths. Now, what are the justifications that the DoD require before they will give the things out? Well, first of all is the frequency and type of criminal activity the agencies are handling. Border cities that have to deal with drug and gun traffickers get a leg up than the sleepy mid-country cities on that line for MRAP distribution, etc. etc. Of course, MRAPs are not gonna be used much for mine-resistance and ambush protection just like the Tampa snow plows are not gonna be used much for plowing snow. But yeah, they have many "alternative" uses in the same manner that the snow plow is used for clearing roads of storm debris. As some guy was quoted on National Defense Magazine: “We had been on the list to get an armored vehicle for several years and got lucky when the MRAPs became available,” Henley said. “There’s no way we could have afforded a vehicle with this level of protection.” The department has used the vehicle to serve warrants on potentially violent suspects, Henley said. Without it, an officer would have to approach a residence on foot or in a patrol car. The SWAT team has sporadic access to a Bearcat armored car that is stationed more than an hour away, he said. “We were having to do it the old fashioned way and put a man in harm’s way to approach a situation,” Henley said. “It’s more about the intimidation factor than anything else. Someone looks out their window and sees that big ol’ MRAP sitting there … it changes their whole thought process pretty quickly.” So yeah, I really don't know much about guns or law enforcement or "militarization" (what does that even mean?). What I do know is that it is silly to base law enforcement policies on how it "looks". We can ridicule the snow plows all we want but they have been very useful.
  17. https://www.donaldjtrump.com/press-releases/an-america-first-energy-plan A rare teleprompter-aided speech replete with the usual Trump-style adlibs. It outlines the Trump Energy Vision and Mission with a lot of stinging critique of the current administration's failures and Hillary Clinton's plan. It's what you would expect from a Republican position - the "all of the above" energy position reminiscent of Romney 2012. Interestingly, this speech connected Energy with a whole lot of things. It connects Energy with Foreign Affairs - touching on Iran and China - and how his Energy plan will protect us from having to kowtow to countries harboring terrorists or killing us in trade. It connects Energy with how his Energy plan will improve the economy. It connects with the crime rate. It connects Energy with immigration. He even managed to connect Energy with Hillary Clinton's emails. Here are some highlights: Critique on Obama and HIllary: President Obama’s stated intent is to eliminate oil and natural gas production in America. His policy is death by a thousand cuts through an onslaught of regulations. At the same time President Obama lifts economic sanctions on Iran, he imposes economic sanctions on America. Even as he rejected this America-Canada pipeline, he made a deal that allows Iran to transport more oil through its pipeline that would have ever flowed through Keystone –with no environmental review. Decreed regulations that shut down hundreds of coal-fired power plants and block the construction of new ones. Decreed a prohibition against coal production on federal land. Decreed draconian climate rules that, unless stopped, would effectively bypass Congress to impose job-killing cap-and-trade. President Obama’s anti-energy orders have also weakened our security, by keeping us reliant on foreign sources of energy. Hillary Clinton will escalate the war against American energy, and unleash the EPA to control every aspect of our lives. She declared that “we’ve got to move away from coal and all the other fossil fuels,” locking away trillions in American wealth. In March, Hillary Clinton said: “by the time we get through all of my conditions, I do not think there will be many places in America where fracking will continue to take place.” Keep in mind, shale energy production could add 2 million jobs in 7 years. Yet, while Hillary Clinton doesn’t want American energy, she is strongly in favor of foreign energy. Here is what she told China as Secretary of State: “American experts and Chinese experts will work to develop China’s natural gas resources. Imagine what it would mean for China if China unleashed its own natural gas resources so you are not dependent on foreign oil.” Trump's Reforms: Energy reform that creates trillions in new wealth. Immigration reform that protects our borders and defends our workers. Tax reform that brings millions of new jobs to America. Regulation reform that eliminates stupid rules that send our jobs overseas. Welfare reform that requires employers to recruit from the unemployment office – not the immigration office. Trade reform that brings back our manufacturing jobs and stands up to countries that cheat. Trump's Energy Mission: American energy dominance will be declared a strategic economic and foreign policy goal of the United States. America has 1.5 times as much oil as the combined proven resources of all OPEC countries; we have more Natural Gas than Russia, Iran, Qatar and Saudi Arabia Combined; we have three times more coal than Russia. Our total untapped oil and gas reserves on federal lands equal an estimated $50 trillion. We will become, and stay, totally independent of any need to import energy from the OPEC cartel or any nations hostile to our interests. At the same time, we will work with our Gulf allies to develop a positive energy relationship as part of our anti-terrorism strategy. We will use the revenues from energy production to rebuild our roads, schools, bridges and public infrastructure. Cheaper energy will also boost American agriculture. We will get the bureaucracy out of the way of innovation, so we can pursue all forms of energy. This includes renewable energies and the technologies of the future. It includes nuclear, wind and solar energy – but not to the exclusion of other energy. The government should not pick winners and losers. Instead, it should remove obstacles to exploration. Any market has ups and downs, but lifting these draconian barriers will ensure that we are no longer at the mercy of global markets. Trump's views for Energy and the Environment: We will reject Hillary Clinton’s poverty-expansion agenda that enriches her friends and makes everyone else poor. We’ll solve real environmental problems in our communities like the need for clean and safe drinking water. President Obama actually tried to cut the funding for our drinking water infrastructure – even as he pushed to increase funding for his EPA bureaucrats. American workers will be the ones building this new infrastructure. Trump's Energy Actions for the first 100-days: We’re going to rescind all the job-destroying Obama executive actions including the Climate Action Plan and the Waters of the U.S. rule. We’re going to save the coal industry and other industries threatened by Hillary Clinton’s extremist agenda. I’m going to ask Trans Canada to renew its permit application for the Keystone Pipeline. We’re going to lift moratoriums on energy production in federal areas We’re going to revoke policies that impose unwarranted restrictions on new drilling technologies. These technologies create millions of jobs with a smaller footprint than ever before. We’re going to cancel the Paris Climate Agreement and stop all payments of U.S. tax dollars to U.N. global warming programs. Any regulation that is outdated, unnecessary, bad for workers, or contrary to the national interest will be scrapped. We will also eliminate duplication, provide regulatory certainty, and trust local officials and local residents. Any future regulation will go through a simple test: is this regulation good for the American worker? If it doesn’t pass this test, the rule will not be approved.
  18. But then, Christ is God.
  19. If we're going to distill it down to 4 words... then LOVE is - bringing someone closer to Christ. Okay, I suck. It's 5 words. But really... that's what love is. You don't have to know him, like him, etc... but, the humility to work through these things so that you can bring someone closer to Christ is what love is.
  20. Can we get an Amen? AMEN, AMEN, AMEN!
  21. My sons thank you Squidster! This video is awesome!

  23. Personal sovereignty was important to women not too long ago. But in the modern era, even in 3rd world Philippines, personal sovereignty is a given for decades now - it's now the default. The only thing you can do is lose it through its exercise (such as the personal decision to marry causes one to lose sovereignty to an abusive spouse, etc.). So it is not surprising that women nowadays take it for granted. As far as beauty - it is an age-old desire for all people (men and women) to attract a spouse. It's instinctive. For the longest time, men with personal sovereignty boost their marketability through financial and physical strength. The women with personal sovereignty boost their marketability through beauty and wit/talent. But even that is "so five minutes ago" now. These days, especially in the western world, men and women's desire to attract spouses is dwindling - they just hook up for fun, usually sexual in nature... and in these hook ups, physical attraction is the currency. Personally, what I want is to be forgiven. I want to be understood. I want the freedom to journey through life, making mistakes along the way, and not be rejected for it. And shoes... I want stylish shoes. Not because I want to be pretty. I just love dressing up with smashing shoes the same way I loved dressing up my Barbies.
  24. My 2 cents: Homosexual Romance: The answer to this is not about sex. The answer to this is about Marriage as the foundation of Eternal Families. We are commanded to LOVE others as we love ourselves. Many people - including Mormons - differentiate Love into several types... family, friendship, romantic, etc. This just muddies the waters. There is only ONE TYPE of Love. And that is Christlike Love. Christlike LOVE is that desire to bring someone with you on your journey closer to Christ. If it brings you and that someone farther from Christ, then it is not Love. Therefore, the love you have for your mother is the same love you have for your friend and the same love you have for children and the same love you have for your spouse and the same love you have for self. What makes Marriage different is the COVENANT under which that Love is expressed. This Covenant is the foundation for ETERNAL families. Remember, marriage is an eternal covenant and it goes beyond mortality. This Covenant comes with specific promises that ADDS certain obligations to the Love one has for family members. The Covenant obligates the husband to preside over the family with his wife. The Covenant obligates them to provide a foundation for an eternal family. The Covenant obligates them to raise up children in the gospel (either in mortality or in eternity, if mortal children is not possible). This Covenant obligates the children to honor their parents, etc. This is the reason why Love takes on a different expression between spouses and between parents and children. But even with these added promises, it does not change what it means to LOVE - it still means bringing someone with you closer to Christ (love others as yourself)... this just makes it more specific - raise up seed to bring eternal spirits from pre-mortality through the plan of salvation back to God. Your use of the word "Relationship" indicates that you're talking about the romantic union that is the pre-cursor to the Marital Covenant. This can be considered a mockery of the Marital Covenant - it's like "playing house"... living like you're under the Covenant without the Covenant itself. Make sense? BUT, that said... there is nothing stopping you from LOVE. You can love anyone - bring them with you closer to Christ. As a matter of fact, it is a commandment. If you want to focus that love on a specific person, that's fine too - bring him with you closer to Christ. But you need to make sure that you understand what LOVE means so that you are grounded on Christ-like Love and not the false love of "playing house" that is promoted by many a Hollywood movie or Billboard Song. The best of friends can be rooted in such love that one would lay down their life for the friend - to steer them from temptation, to guide them to the light of Christ. This is the kind of relationship you would want even outside of your spouse. When you find your eternal companion, then your relationship would be different because then you'll have the marital covenant that adds the responsibility of being the foundation for an eternal family (even if you don't have children in mortality). Make sense? Cross-dressing: This is all about intent. If your intent is to "playing woman" (related to "playing house" above), then it is not good. If your intent is comfort, then it is fine. I sometimes wear pants to Church because my pantsuit is my "best" that day. I also like swiping my son's hoodie. It is fine. Eyeliner and all that... same thing - it's all up to your intent. If you're trying to "play woman" it's not good. If you use it to highlight your manly features it's fine. David Bowie, Ozzy Osborne, KISS, use make-up not to "play woman" but to inject a certain male style. I love KPop and a lot of my American friends think the men are gender fluid... they're not. It's the manly style of South Korea - eyeliner to make their almond eyes look more western, foundation to hide their pasty skin, etc. It just so happens that South Korean males (and Asian males in general) are not your big, buff, muscular manly men... they're built slender like women. So they tend to look feminine to Americans. Baptism Number: Yes, you need it to create an account on lds.org. It also helps to put it on your tithing slip. Just go ask your ward clerk or any of the bishopric for that information. Hope this helps.
