Budget got a reaction from seashmore in How do I tell someone they should not attend the ward?
Not only is it IN the handbook that anyone 31+ would switch from the YSA ward - BUT in fairness to all the others, they have an expectation that their peers in the ward are all similar ages of 18-30.  I personally would have zero problems telling this woman "Hey, you know when I suggested the YSA ward?  Well I had no idea you weren't in the 18-30 age group!  I know, right?  You look really awesome.  But, I'm really sorry for suggesting it because obviously, you really shouldn't be going to the YSA ward, it IS for those 18-30 year olds.  Sorry I messed up with my suggestion but it was in a good way!  That's quite the compliment!"

And then bow out of helping with rides or anything else....

Therein lies the problem.  There aren't many under the age of 30 that know what Socialism is anymore.  Interviews with that age demographic asked about socialism tend to answer that it's being really 'social' and 'really nice to everyone' and being 'fair to everyone' and have zero education about it.  I clearly remember my government classes teaching me Capitalism, Socialism, Communism (and Marxism).  I've heard most schools don't teach these anymore.  Judging from the 'on the spot' interviews I've watched and the articles I've read written by the 18-29 age demographic....  this just might be true.  In order to vote intelligently, you have to educate yourself to what you are voting for.

Glad to hear #metoo folks calling out Clinton - it speaks to the movement's genuineness, since most of them are on the left.
Yeah, when you take all the credible allegations of sexual assault against Trump, and set them next to credible allegations of sexual assault against Clinton, well, that's a healthy dose of perspective.  Because one pile is quite bigger than the other pile.  And only one president made this face, while seated in the audience when one of his accusers had the microphone:

Remember what they said about Nixon before all the crap went down?
"He may be a *beep*, but he's OUR *beep*".   Meaning, for all his horrible qualities, he's making all his efforts to push our agenda, so we'll keep him.

Fortunately, in the age of email, I'm finding my kids' teachers are able to use it.  We've done a pretty good job of teacher/parent ganging up on the poor squidlets.
Back in the day before I cared, I was honored to be the reason schools had to hang up signs against my behavior.  You might think you have an idiotproof system of dropping off kids, but let me just beta test that for you.

That's not the only thing they can do.
Basically, Ancestry now OWNS your DNA sample and can do whatever they want to do with it.  For example - and I'm just pulling this off the fringes of my brain - it can use your DNA sample to give to a research outfit that is working on a biological weapon to wipe out your entire family tree.  This is most especially a concern to Jews because they have had that specific experience of people trying to wipe them out of the face of the earth.
But, in the case of convictions - relative DNA has big DNA marker commonality such that, a relative of yours - including distant ones - that have specifically avoided giving DNA samples can now be identified by your DNA sample.  So, you may be free with your closet but that doesn't mean your relative wants his closet opened even if he doesn't have skeletons in it either.  Having grown up in a political family, I know for a fact that the lack of skeletons in one's closet doesn't mean it will be skeleton free when someone opens it.  There are a lot of reasons somebody would contrive to put a skeleton in there.  Especially with what we now know about Fake News and the seedy activities of Intelligence Agencies.

@Openmind, please do not take offense when I say that in my experience in life and on this forum, there are always at least two sides to any such story, and we are getting only one. I'm not saying that I disbelieve you, only that sad experience has made me cautious.
IF what you're saying is 100% correct (and note that that's a big IF, literally and figuratively), then it looks to me like your husband is going down a very dark and dangerous path. I appreciate that you love him, and perhaps he loves you—I certainly hope so. But even then, such a "revelation" is IMVHO nonsense. In any case, as JAG said, even if his purported revelation were real, only a fool would share such a revelation with his wife.
Bottom line: I don't believe it for a moment. I don't have any good advice for you except (1) don't believe it and (2) keep loving your husband. Well, and (3) pray to God for strength and wisdom to take your next steps. I would not discourage talking with your Relief Society president or bishop, whichever you feel comfortable with.

Budget got a reaction from Hello in Second marriage and temple garments
Before I even read any of the replies my first thought was "There could be a distinct difference in answers and opinions based on whether the comments from a male or female.....".

As a female I absolutely knew how you felt about not wanting him to wear the same temple garments that he wore when he married his first wife.  Just as you stated - it's almost like a bride wearing the same gown to her second wedding.  But on the other hand, my own husband would have answered as the guys here did!  LOL.  He probably wouldn't have emotion tied to the garments and wonder why on earth I wouldn't want him to use them for 'our' wedding.  (And yes... he would have bought a different set or rented a different set if and when he knew it would bother me... just as your husband will do).  I think it's kind of a female thing to tie emotions to the clothing.  Not all females of course.  And not all males.  But generally speaking the guys are like, "Why wouldn't I just just wear the same ones?"  and the females are all... "Oh please don't wear the same ones you wore when you married her!"

I love the recent one with Hugh Jackman although I think Hugh Jackman's singing voice just isn't well suited for Valjean and they should've cast Gerard Butler over Russel Crow for Javert.  Other than those, it was very very well done.

I agree forgiveness is a huge part. But in my opinion forgiveness is useless if neither of you are communicating. you have to be talking through the situations that could cause the need for forgiveness. Forgiveness is useless if there is no trust and trust is build on communicating.

I suppose to does seem strange to someone who has grown up in the church and has only been sealed once. I think it takes on a new meaning because the ceremonial clothing is what he actually wore during his sealing to his first wife. I wouldn’t wear my first wedding dress to this sealing. And again I am a convert so I look at things differently I suppose. I agree renting sounds reasonable as I don’t think he should get rid of them and he can certainly wear them again if he chooses. I jsut prefer not on our sealing day.

You think Arthur is going to make more money because they had a gay wedding? Or that Toy Story 4 wouldn't have done as well had they not included what they did? Or that if Taylor Swift's latest song would have been about traditional romance it wouldn't have sold as well?
I don't believe for one second that adding that kind of thing into entertainment sells better. That is not why they're doing it.

Relevant chart is relevant.  I post it here because I keep noticing people aren't aware of it, and still think "the silent majority" or "the moral majority" is still a majority.  It isn't - it changed in our lifetimes.  9 years ago, to be exact.

Budget reacted to NeuroTypical in Doesn't seem like the church is pushing the old 2 year food storage
We just got done covering this in the 5th Sunday combined 2nd hour.   Yes indeed, the emphasis on the 1 year (I guess you heard 2 years) food storage was replaced around a decade ago with this:

I haven't heard any church leader talk about a 1 year supply since Pres. Hinckley's 1998 To the Boys and To the Men talk.    Well, I mean, in 2007-08 as we were entering scary times again, everyone brushed off that talk and started talking about it again, but still, that's a long time ago.
All that said, it's always good to meet another person concerned about temporal preparations surrounding the last days.  So, Glock or 1911?

At 26 carats there is no way I would ever think it was real... and I would have done the same thing she did and just wore it for 30 years.  Except I doubt I ever would have brought it in to be appraised at all - I would still be cluelessly wearing it.

(Except I'm not a big fan of gaudy, flashy or big jewelry so I actually would *not* be wearing it... but you get what I mean!)

Yes the conversations should go like this:
Random church member: "Did you serve a mission?"
Me: "No, I am a convert and I joined after the cut-off age for men"

Your one word responses lead them to ask the next question to which you respond with one word again.  Then you have a problem with the questions? It is OK to string more than one or two words together when talking to someone.

    @VioletGrace Congratulations times two!
If conception happened before baptism, you have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of.  One of the blessings of baptism (and subsequently partaking of the sacrament) is forgiveness for sins we are repentant of, and it seems like you are.
Being worried about the reactions of other church members is very understandable, but hopefully those who welcome and love you outnumber those who judge you.  Talking with your bishop, he may be able to connect you with some of the more supportive sisters.  There may even be someone in your own ward who was pregnant outside of marriage or had a daughter who was, and you just don't know it.
Feel free to come back and ask us anything or vent, or whatever.  Good luck and God bless!
