Youtube block and throttling Steven Crowder is one thing and is not a new issue. But censoring it ONLY in the USA?? YouTube isn't even trying to be sneaky about their political leaning. I would be interested to see how searches go from forum members in other countries. Being in the USA, I searched "Steven Crowder Change my mind" and the only videos from his page came up in the "watch again" section. In the actual search results, the first video from his channel was 30 videos down (which no one ever scrolls past the 10th video) Thoughts?

Thoughts on new Children and Youth Initiative?
Fether replied to carlimac's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
A couple things. I don’t believe for a second that the church was intentionally trying to control the Saints. And in the case of your grandfather, I am almost positive it is church policy to not allow “church gatherings” like bible study or group FHEs to gather without the presence of a bishopric member present, I remember wanting to form a bible study group a few years back and it got shot down. My reaction to it after being explained the reason of needing a church leader present was “of my goodness that makes perfect sense”. If one person in that group is spiritually sick, it can spread like the flu. Without a spiritual healer present, it could lead to apostasy. Not that it WILL, but it was a policy to protect the saints. Now I actually do prefer this change to allow us to gather, but the original policy made sense. Lastly, someone turning out to be a temple President is not cause reason to say “they should have been allowed to break policy because obviously they are so righteous the rules didn’t apply.” But I do believe this is a fantastic shift, the youth program. Looking back on my life, the gospel was discussed and talked about almost entirely at church. Fast forward to my life now, I have through my own self interest and by the grace of God developers a life style where the gospel is learned, discussed and spoken almost entirely at home and supplemented at church. For many, the 2 (once 3) hours of church were their spiritual highs for the week. What it needs to be is a little bump on our spiritual graph and an opportunity to share what we have learned and strengthen each other. -
Funny, having only ever applied for a job in Utah, it seems to be a disadvantage to NOT put it on your resume. The idea of it being a problem elsewhere never crossed my mind. But it makes sense.
-
It depends. It’s like any experience you would put on a resume. My dad has worked in the insurances industry for his entire life so putting his mission on his resume is a waste of space and would take the spot of one of his many important and related jobs. In Utah or Idaho I imagine it is completely fine. New Hampshire? Mmm... probably, but be a little more generic in your description. I have never considered what @MarginOfError has said above. Don’t know that I wholly agree or disagree.

I went to a large church with about 4 services with 3,000+ members at each meeting. 45 minutes of a Christian rock concert, 15 minutes of various baptisms, and 30 minutes of one of the best lessons (or sermons) I have ever had.

How terrifying is that. I have heard many descriptions and theories as to what Hell is but all have seem surreal and fictitious... but this description fills me with really fear. What lead you to adopting this view? Any scriptures or quotes that lead you to it? The quote from JSjr “What is the damnation of hell? To go with that society who have not obeyed His commands” comes to mind but it doesn’t quite hit home like what you said did.

I have had this long standing belief that if a movie is not intended to have a sequel, but a sequel is made anyway, the second movie is ALWAYS terrible as they tend to be just cash grabs (I’m sure everyone can agree)... That being said, My wife turned in Madagascar 2 yesterday for our son. And I have to say that as far as sequels for standalone movies go, it was pretty alright. There are a few moments in the movie that I can’t help but chuckle at even right now as I write this. ... Madagascar 3 though... don’t waste your time (although there is one line from Sarge where they are trying to take off in a solid gold airplane and the questio is asked if it is too heavy and he responds “We’re rich! The laws of physics do t apply to us!” And they take off (

A Response to President Nelson's Address at BYU
Fether replied to Anddenex's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
The church’s approach is fantastic. What is destructive is a combination of the delivery from local teachers and leaders, and the interpretation of the delivery by the LGBTQ individual. This is why therapy can be so good for such individuals, they are in a place and with a person with no expectations or pre conceived notions. A safe space, if you will, where they can speak openly and dissect what is happening without any repercussion. The church is fantastic and is a must in the process of repentance, but it doesn’t have everything everyone needs for every situation for them to deal with the stresses and difficulties of life. -

New Book of Mormon videos start hitting YouTube today
Fether replied to NeuroTypical's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
Next video out. They had an epic Nephi 3:7 scene which I felt would have been more impactful if they hadn’t had music playing in the background and made it such an intense moment. Perhaps having it come more naturally in conversation, it could show that profound revelation doesn’t have to be so bombastic and intense. -
What the CES Letter Really Is - Third Hour Article Discussion
Fether replied to mordorbund's topic in General Discussion
At age 21 I read the entire CES letter in a single night. I blew through many of the questions with easy as they seemed mindless, nit picky canon fodder that an 8 year old could rationalize. Within 3 days I had come to logical and perfectly sound doctrinal explanations to many of the harder questions. In sales, people buy on emotion and justify the buy on logic. The same goes here. People leave the church for something, and use the CES letter or “history” as the “logic” to leave. -
Baptist Preacher Praises Book of Mormon
Fether replied to prisonchaplain's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
I’ve heard of this guy and he is interesting haha, I’m mostly just asking myself “do you know what you are REALLY saying when you testify for the Book of Mormon?” Im honestly more interested in the last part of your post. I found that anomaly strange. It’s almost like you are saying the right words, but we don’t trust your understanding enough to say you said it right. It’s like when a white guy tells a black-lives-matter guy “Yes, I believe the lives of black people matter very much”, then the black guy will insist on further explanation cause he feels like the white guy doesn’t get it. Phrases like “saved by grace”, “accept Christ”, and “faith without works is dead” are important in most, of not all, christian religions, yet they can mean drastically different things. -
What the CES Letter Really Is - Third Hour Article Discussion
Fether replied to mordorbund's topic in General Discussion
The thing about the CES letter is that for any of the questions to be valid, you have to reject a core doctrine or principle taught. When you accept the gospel as is and as taught by our leaders, everything falls neatly into place EVERY time. If you believe that prophets are infallible, that miracles don’t happen today, that old/New Testament prophets are more important and more “right” than modern prophets, or you hold cultural teachings at the same level as doctrine... you will likely find fault, as did the author, with the church as you read through it. The biggest tragedy of the CES letter is that the Jeremy’s story (the way he paints it at least) is a complete joke and overshadows the whole thing, it is a stain on what could have been a fantastic anti-Mormon piece of literature, but I can’t help but be reminded at how ridiculous of a person he is as I read this compiled list of “questions”. -

Scroll down to the bottom of the article. On the mouse (the thing you have I your hand) there are two clickers, and between the two clickers there is a wheel you can spin. Soo the wheel toward you. The screen will then slowly move in a downward direction. Eventually you will reach a section that says “comments”. it is here that you will see a series of names, or pronouns, beneath said pronouns will be series of letters, spaces, and punctuations outlining individual opinions of readers. Beneath those you will see a series of other letters spelling out “David Snell” where you can read the author’s response to the comments... ...🙄old people🥴... -
A Response to President Nelson's Address at BYU
Fether replied to Anddenex's topic in LDS Gospel Discussion
The concept that is being tossed around is that the Olympics put SLC on everyone’s radar where before hand, no one really knew about it. After being the world stage of the great athletic event, it began popping to people’s mind as a good place to live. Utah began attracting people from outside the Latter-day Saint community and is now becoming a center of wickedness. I would be interested in seeing the population growth statistics on Utah from pre olympics to post olympics. -

If the Utah olympics put into motion events that would lead to one soul coming to Christ, but also brought in on the corruption of Utah. Would it have been worth it?
