Still_Small_Voice reacted to pam in What does Moses 6:64-65 mean?
God baptized Adam.  He didn't need any help.  He didn't need to physically perform the ordinance, he performed it spiritually by the power of the priesthood, having the Spirit carry him down into the water.  Adam was thus baptized by God himself.  We should not be too surprised.  Some Old Testament prophets received the priesthood the same way. The Prophet Joseph recorded they "were ordained by God himself." (Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, 181)

Miami, the pictures you posted made we weep.  I pray these horrific murders stop and we do something about this.  That is nothing but pure evil and murder.

I'm no expert by any stretch.
My understanding is that the first presidency of the church oversaw the process of compiling revelations into the doctrine and covenants. Many of these were already found in the book of commandments which had been printed in small quantities two years previously due to the destruction of the printing press being used.
During this process the prophet felt inspired to make changes to some of the revelations to ensure that they were more easily understood by the general public.
I actually see merit to this and can accept it as valid for the following reason; the original revelations were specifically for certain individuals to help with specific challenges, be they personal, or pertaining to church administration and so forth. The precise wording given originally may well have been the best wording (or at least adequate) to help these individuals get the message they needed at the time. Upon the time of compiling the revelations into a volume for mass distribution it is logical that the Lord knew that certain points would need greater clarification and/or emphasis to convey meaning to a broad spectrum of people as opposed to the original recipient. This doesn't make the Lord a "changeable God," but it does make Him understanding of the needs of His people.
On a cynical or faithless note it does appear to be convenient for the prophet to be allowed to make changes as he saw fit under the guise of "revelation," but also extremely smart of him to put himself in that position in the first place.
Ultimately the question will come back down to whether or not JS is/was a prophet. If so than the changes are acceptable and sanctioned by the Lord. If not than both versions are fraud and it doesn't matter that changes were made.
I understand how the changes can be troubling. I still believe. Through the Holy Ghost we may know the truth of all things, I wish you the best and pray you will get the answers you need.

Changes have never troubled me. They fall under my understanding of continuing revelation and within the scope of the church being ultimately led by the Lord. Either the Lord leads the church or He doesn't. If he does, changes to scripture are part of it. Line upon line, etc...

It is a matter of curiosity. But not a matter of concern. It is the words of the Lord that matter, not the words of John. Maybe Joseph added to it. If so, I am confident that it was the Lord's will and that it is the Lord's words. I agree it would be of interest to know, but beyond that...'sall good.

A juvenile court has ordered the Massachusetts Department of Children and Family to return Justina Pelletier to her parents, the Boston Globe reports.

“I find that the parties have shown by credible evidence that circumstances have changed since the adjudication on Dec. 20, 2013, that Justina is a child in need of care and protection pursuant to G.L. c. 199, 24-26.,” Judge Joseph Johnston wrote in the ruling, according to the Globe. “Effective Wednesday, June 18, 2014, this care and protection petition is dismissed and custody of Justina is returned to her parents, Lou and Linda Pelletier.”

In light of the "welcome to America" attitude on the southern border, it is particularly disgusting. I have respect for law enforcement and know many good police officers, but it seems like the various agencies are becoming more and more para military and less than concerned about the citizens they serve. Local law enforcement included...sadly.

The LORD wants all to follow Him.  He called Matthew, a Roman tax collector, to follow Him and be one of His Apostles.  Rather than stoning an adulteress woman, Jesus told her to: "Go and sin no more."  The Prophet Joseph Smith wrote: "And the woman glorified God from that hour, and believed on his name." (See the Inspired Version of the Bible, chapter 8, verse 11.)

Whenever I read these discussions anymore or whenever I hear the lesson at church and the talk about the lesson afterwards I have reminded of the following:

    Luke 8:5-8

5 A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.
6 And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture.
7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it.
8 And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

So often we (me included) hear something taught that hits home in my heart.  Instead of saying how can this apply to me I get defensive.  We all do sometimes.  Then instead of stopping and saying "how can I make it easier for my brothers" I hear and read threads like this.

Being *active* in Church; i.e. holding a calling, doing our VT(for me), attending all three of the Sunday meetings and the once a month RS Evening Meeting isn't really a guarantee that the landscape of my spiritual life is going to NOT be brown.

Where is it in the Bible that the Samaritan woman at the well was a 5-time divorcee and was at the time shacking up? Read John 4:6-26. https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/4?lang=eng

In John 8:2-11, is when the Scribes brought a woman condemned of adultery for Christ to judge. This was not in Samaria. https://www.lds.org/scriptures/nt/john/8?lang=eng

If the landscape of our spiritual life if brown and dry - then it is so because we have not nourished it with the living waters of Christ. Being active in Church is just a small part of our spiritual nourishment. We must also be active in reading the scriptures, obey the commandments, obeying the living prophet of God. The blessings promised to us by God must be asked for and worked for.

You can till the ground, plant good fertile seeds, but if you do not nourish those seeds with water, they will not grow. The same for our spiritual growth.

The Mazda 5 sports van is a good gasoline vehicle choice.  It seats 6 including the driver.  Maintenance records are pretty good on them.  It gets about 25 miles to the gallon.  I personally dislike vehicles that do not have good fuel mileage.  I forsee $4.50 per gallon prices.

I am looking into a compressed natural gas car since we have so many fueling stations in Utah.  It costs about $1.75 per gallon equivilant presently to drive.  Only downside is you cannot do a cross country trip with one.  I think there is a future in natural gas.  You can create it out of waste and feces and it burns so much cleaner than gasoline.

My family has been given so much service.  I'm so grateful.

One of the sweetest services given was from my RS President and another lady in our ward. After the death of my 19 year old daughter, my time was consumed with taking care of her 2 month old baby and getting funeral services prepared. I had no time for anything. They took my 12 year old daughter to help pick out and buy a dress for her sister to be buried in. What a wonderful and tender act of service. My younger daughter was able to participate in a last gift for her sister.
