Churchmouse Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) It's that time of year again. For the next 25 days Christmas music will be everywhere. What do you look forward to hearing? I make a distinction between Christmas Carols and Christmas songs. My favorite carol in "What Child Is This". My favorite song is a toss-up between "White Christmas" or "Silver Bells". prisonchaplain Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 FYI: Anyone who says their favorite is "Granma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" will be consigned to the outer darkness for eternity. FYI 2: If you're invited to sing in a prison this Christmas, do not sing, "I'll Be Home for Christmas." My personal favorite is probably "Oh Holy Night" Quote
Guest mormonmusic Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day. I also like Carol of the Bells, although instrumental -- my daughter and I play it together as a piano and distortion guitar duet. FYI 3: Might not want to sing "I'll be Home For Christmas" to a Mormon missionary who hasn't hit his hump day (1/2 way point in his two year mission) either! Quote
Maureen Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 The radio station I listen to at work is now playing Christmas music till Boxing Day. I look forward to hearing: The Holly and the Ivy, Six White Boomers by Rolf Harris, a medley of We Three Kings and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen performed by the Barenaked Ladies and Sarah McLachlan, Wintersong by Sarah McLachlan and a bunch of others I can't think of right now. :) Quote
aruth5000 Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 i would have to say mine is Silver Bells Quote
ADoyle90815 Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 Silent Night-especially during the late night Christmas Eve service when the church is dark and everyone is holding candles. The Holly and the Ivy Greensleeves, I mean What Child is This Hallelujah chorus from Handel's Messiah O Little Town of Bethlehem O Come, O Come Emanuel O Holy Night The First Noel Quote
Moksha Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 I like that Mannheim Steamroller stuff. One in particular that has a duh-da-duh-duh-duh and something about bells. Silent Night First Noel Greensleeves Good King Wenceslas and that Pachelbel's Canon Christmas Song are all really nice. Christmas music really is a favorite. Quote
Churchmouse Posted December 2, 2009 Author Report Posted December 2, 2009 FYI: FYI 2: If you're invited to sing in a prison this Christmas, do not sing, "I'll Be Home for Christmas."But it does say "If only in my dreams". Quote
Maureen Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 More to add are: Good King Wenceslas and Mary, Did you Know? performed by Kathy Mattea. Quote
Maureen Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 Just heard a new song that I like: The Seven Joys of Mary by Great Big Sea. Quote
Guest Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 I love the Trans-Siberian Orchestra especially Christmas in Sarajevo, Wizards in Winter, Christmas of the Bells, and Christmas Canon. We're presenting a play for our ward Christmas Party this year from Christmas Hang-ups and we love all the songs there! Especially the "On the First Day of Christmas" that intros into a traditional carol. I don't really have a favorite traditional carol. Well, maybe What Child is This. But only if sung by a choir or bell instrumentals. Quote
