What sort of fun things is there to do (besides go to conference! :)) during confrence weekend for college students? We have saturday and Friday night. Obviously during the sessions of conference we'll be watching.

Any suggestions would be lovely!

SLC has Hogle Zoo. Temple Square is fascinating. There are tours and such, e.g. Brigham Young's houses. The city itself is fun to walk around in and explore. My wife and I took a "vacation" to SLC while we were at BYU. We stayed at Tom Bodett's on 6th South for a week and enjoyed the city. It still ranks as one of our favorite vacations.

Of course, if your idea of "fun" is clubbing and "partying" (alcohol-related, not birthday-hat related), then I can't tell you much. But I gather that's not really your thing, so I think you should have no problem finding a weekend's worth of entertainment in SLC.

I want to see things that aren't on the normal LDS tourists list because it'll be hopping for confrence. Or so I'm assuming. And, Jess my roomie and Cainan, our friend were just in SLC. Maybe we can catch a few tours they haven't seen. I'd love for Jess and Cainan to see the "17 miracles" movie thats like an LDS movie in theaters. So maybe i'll bring that up if we end up having a few hours of gap time.

Trust me. I like birthday hats xD.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon in SLC. If you can get it, get the Plaza hotel in downtown SLC. The hotel is across the street from Temple Square and cost a lot less then what the others did. It was a very nice hotel also.

As for things to do, my friends and I always:

-Visit Temple Square

-Hogle Zoo

-This Is The Place Park

-Malls (There is one nearby the Plaza, just ride the Trax to it)

-Hale Theatres

-Clark Plantarium

I've done searches and I can't find a theater in the SLC area that is still showing 17 Miracles. It's now on dvd.

generally the mall, restaurants or a couple of church sites is what my family or church groups go visit and see. theres also the capitol building.

Or if you can catch the the MoTab choir practicing or warming up, its pretty fun to sit in on (altho i doubt they do anything like that between sessions, but not sure about that tho).

Generally for me going to a new library or bookstore will keep me occupied for a long time

My missionary runion is this weekend! Haha...but I won't be there. :(

I like this is the place park

Go down to Provo and visit the Provo Y

THere are some good eats there in SLC...

Also some of the typical Mormon sites will be packed, but that inda makes it fun.

How do you find out about missionary reunions?

I'll be staying in Ogden.

And, can anyone tell me more about the train in SLC or track..or whatever they call it? :)

It's called Trax, you can plan trips and find fares and the like here: Utah Transit Authority. Poking around at the previous link will also give you bus information. Also you may want to pay particular attention to the free fare zone in Downtown SLC: Free Fare Zone

Bring a jacket and spend some time in the canyons. There is the Aspen loop between American Fork and Provo Canyon. Not far from the top of the loop there is a turn off to Cascade Springs. With the fall colors in the mountains you will find a lot beautiful sights.

There are a ton of mountain hiking trails to hidden lakes and waterfalls. At Snowbird you can take the tram (during the day) to the top for a most spectacular view.

If you are into bicycling there is a fun path around the airport and some fun wild life - there is a family of red foxes that are often seen along the bicycle path. Up Ogden canyon there are some fun rides around “Eden”.

Skip the city stuff - all city stuff is so much the same - the mountains is what makes Utah one of the great unique places to visit. If nothing else at least take a drive through the mountains - a pick nick would be fun.

Pioneer Village is a great place to visit.

Front Runner goes all the way from Ogden to south of SLC. Then at the downtown SLC hub you transfer to the University line to go up to the Zoo and Pioneer Village.

Ogden, has some great places to eat. Rooster's on 25th street, Ruby River on Riverdale Road, etc. At the Junction (23rd street and Grant) there are lots of fun things from water to climbing and the Megaplex theater is there too. Dinosaur Park is at the mouth of Ogden Canyon.

Great ideas. However, since she is also asking about public transportation this might not be an option.

I'm borrowing my aunts minivan..and my friends driving it since I can't drive legally. But, one of the people I'm going with has a slight tendon problem that makes walking difficult. I'll have to ask her before i suggest it :) but thanks!

Well, I'm back. We didn't really do anything besides go to confrence and walk around temple square. Which, I'm okay with. I mean, three 17/18 year olds wandering around SLC? I'm rather proud that we didn't get lost or hit by a car :)

I'll add some of these things to my next trip around thanksgiving and next april. Thanks for the advice.

:)
