pam Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Cleveland Kidnapper Ariel Castro Found Dead in Jail Cell | KTLA 5The man that was just sentenced for holding the 3 girls captive for 10 years was found dead in his jail cell. Quote
Jenamarie Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 But I thought captivity was supposed to be enjoyable? Quote
pam Posted September 4, 2013 Author Report Posted September 4, 2013 Rather ironic if he felt he couldn't handle captivity when that's exactly what he did to 3 innocent young women. Quote
SpiritDragon Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 It is kind of strange that he plead guilty to avoid the death penalty only to turn around and inflict it on himself. Any way it is likely for the better that tax payers are not supporting his existence any more. Quote
Wingnut Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 As an Ohio State taxpayer, I'm glad to not be supporting him. Quote

And attitude of "you can't kill me nor punish me further because I'm going to take my own life." He made the choice not someone else. For me this was one more selfish act from a selfish man. Quote
MorningStar Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Rather ironic if he felt he couldn't handle captivity when that's exactly what he did to 3 innocent young women. He could have been in there for 30 years and it still couldn't compare to what he did to them. Quote
Backroads Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 I can't help but wonder what was waiting for him on the other side. Of course I do believe in a loving and merciful God, but justice still applies... It was probably at once better and worse than we would imagine. Quote

Of course I do believe in a loving and merciful God, but justice still applies... It was probably at once better and worse than we would imagine. As loathesome as this man is/was, I feel sad that peace will likely be even harder for him to find now. More than that, though, I hope that Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight find peace, and that they find it in this life, and are able to live happily throughout the remainder of their lives. Finrock Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 As horrible as his actions are God loves Ariel Castro with a perfect love. I hope he had/has an opportunity to repent. Regards, Finrock Quote
Bini Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 I like reading the kindness in these sort of threads. Unfortunately, he is just one monster (I'm describing his actions) among many more out there. That's the crazy thing that my mind can't wrap around. There's plenty more where he came from. You don't know how near or far either. Quote
MorningStar Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 I don't want him to suffer forever. But I think maybe 10 years or so would be fair. And I would like to think he now understands the pain he inflicted upon these girls and the unborn babies he murdered. Quote
Backroads Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 In order for a true change of heart, especially in the hereafter, he will have to fully realize the horror of what he has done. Quote

Bini Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 There's a lot of support circulating Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr for the victims and their families. I think that's great. And the child that was born at the Castro residence, she and her mother, will have a good shot at rebuilding their lives and building new and hopefully healthy relationships with people. That little girl will not have to live in captivity. Quote
JustJane Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 As much as I hate to celebrate a suicide, I think this outcome is in a way the best. The most tragic thing I find is the greater difficulty it will be for Castro to change now. Quote
MarginOfError Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 I don't think we know enough about the man to know if it will be harder or easier for him the change post-mortem. If he suffered from some sort of psychosis or undiagnosed mental disorder, it could very well be the case that being freed from the limitations on his mortal capacities may allow him to finally feel the guilt he needs to be able to repent. I'm not saying such is the case. All I'm willing to say is that he clearly needed to be locked away for his crimes. The sphere of our judgment on the matter remains in this world. Any claims about whether it will be better or worse for him in the spiritual realms are speculative and beyond our purview. Quote

Backroads Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Though it has been said it is harder to change (in general?) in the spirit world. Quote
MarginOfError Posted September 4, 2013 Report Posted September 4, 2013 Though it has been said it is harder to change (in general?) in the spirit world. It's possible that's true...for your normal, healthy, non-cognitively impaired individual. Then again, based on some experiences that have been had in my family, I'm not sure that what has been said is entirely accurate either. Which is why I'm happy not to be making valuative statements on the matter. Quote

I just feel relief for those three young women and little girl. How does his suicide bring them any relief? Other than fulfilling some desire for revenge...The fact that he only did it once behind bars seems to indicate that he didn't do it out of grief for his terrible crimes. More likely he couldn't tolerate his present condition. Quote

I said that I feel relief for the victims (for the obvious reason that they are no longer in captivity). Quote
