I remember as a child watching and reading about Bruce Jenner. Though I played basketball and baseball and ran around like other boys, I never felt particularly athletic or drawn to sports. But Bruce Jenner was different; he was an exceptional athlete not at one or two sports, but at pretty much everything. He was the embodiment of athletic excellence. I would not go so far as to say he was my "hero" or "most admired" or anything, but he was a cultural touchstone to me of what excellence meant. Somewhat unconsciously, I wanted to pattern myself after Bruce Jenner, only in intellectual things. Obviously, I have not reached anything like the heights Jenner did, but I have found a lot of satisfaction in the journey.

Bruce Jenner is an intelligent but mentally ill man. It is my opinion that a just God will judge our generation AND ITS CONSTITUENT MEMBERS very harshly indeed for condoning and encouraging the spiritual wreck of this, his son, instead of offering comfort and help where we might have.

But then, perhaps our perverse beliefs are themselves punishment enough.

Only three types of people aggressively run toward a cop who's in the process of making an arrest.  He's clearly neither backup nor a lawyer, so that leaves thug.

I can't speak as to this case specifically--I'd like to think that the police chief is speaking out of the fact that he knows something I don't, rather than cynically trying to forestall a riot by offering a scapegoat.  But as a general proposition:  While I have no love for a police state and I'm probably about as concerned about personal privacy as the next guy, I'm not sure I look to cops as traveling shrinks whose primary role is to rove the streets twenty-four hours per day and help the bad guys self-soothe.

I look to cops to, at least reactively (not a fan of pre-emptive police intervention) quell disturbances and get the bad guys off the streets by any means necessary. That's very often going to entail the use of force, which s never pleasant to behold and can easily get out-of-hand.

Nevertheless, I'm not going to expect a cop with two years at the academy to--at peril of his own life--instantly recall and apply conflict-resolution techniques that psychologists, psychiatrists, and other mental health counselors often have trouble successfully applying over a period of hours or even months.

What I'm seeing is a guy entering a low, squared off fighting stance while reaching for a back pocket or back of his belt or waistband.  Now, I'm right handed, but that just makes this a pretty exact mirror of the position I was in a few times while drawing an expandable baton.  At that distance, the intended target probably wouldn't actually have time to prevent the first strike at all.
I've also worked with plenty of people who carry a knife clipped into the back pocket, and I've used concealment holsters that kept my 1911 opposite just about where he's reaching.  Waiting to see the weapon would be way too late.

There is another video showing the fight at the pool by the trespassers...guess that doesn't really matter. I bet "the resident cop bashers" could have handled those poor little innocent children so much better.

Some on this forum are so predictable...I knew this story would be on here with the predictable bashers. All of those bashing the cops, would have likely got your back sides kicked by those punks that absolutely would not follow any direction from the cop.

The cops didn't crash the party as the title of this thread states. The police were called by the pool manangement because trespassers jumped the fence and crashed the party.

I recently told my Son in law that he made a bad career choice. I told him you Officers get beat up on the job and beat up by the media and everyone else for the way the Police do their job. The pay is poor and the job is dangerous. I have a neighbor across the street from me who is a Officer. I have another neighbor across from me who is a Highway Patrolman. I see these guys when they leave for work and always hope and pray they come home at the end of the day. I wish we got worked up over Politicians the way we get worked up over a 7 minute video of a Police officer.

Last June...June 20th to be precise at about 5:30 A.M, I had a massive heart attack and went into cardiac arrest in the E.R. The doctor and medical team were able to bring me back after a couple minutes or so....thankfully.

As I lay on the table in horrible pain, I felt my spirit leaving my body. I told my wife I was sorry and was dying and then looked around the room and said I am going...and off I went.

I also saw...me....as I "rushed" back into my body. For the next several minutes my wife said I kept asking what had happened to the music and as they rolled me to the cath lab, I was very much at peace and thought only of the music. Thankfully the cardiologist, who was working frantically, was able to open the blocked artery. He told me I had maybe 10 minutes left to live after they revived me.

My spirit left my body. DId it go to Paradise? Dunno. I think somewhere in between as it wasn't my time.

Cop subduing a girl who is resisting.  Check the guy in the blue tshirt:

Not a full second later, now check the guy in the blue t-shirt.  Anyone see aggressive behavior?

I wonder if the guy in the blue tshirt understands that reaching around behind your back when aggressively closing on a police officer is a good way to get shot.  Regardless, we're still under a second of tape here, look how fast dood closed in.  Dude in the blue tshirt is a clear, obvious threat.  Did he just go for the cops gun?  Is he reaching for one of his own?  The deal is, the cop gets to go home at the end of the day.  Blue tshirt dude needs to be dealt with.

Cop isn't trying to intimidate - he's drawing his weapon as a result as tshirt dude's aggressive behavior.

I mean, I'm glad nobody got shot.  But if I had a kid and watched him do what blue tshirt dude just did, he would be washing this cop's car every week for a full year, just in order to win back his iphone.  He's lucky he didn't get his fool idiot aggressive butt shot off - one tenth of a second more aggressive behavior out of him, if he hadn't run away like that and the cop dropped him, I doubt America could find a jury able to convict the cop of any sort of wrongdoing.

My understanding is it is a priesthood obligation of every worthy young man...

That being said, my personal view is that it is a personal decision. One needs to decoide what to do, what to be and how to get there. Once that is decided, one needs to act and get going in life.

My personal opinion as how mission service is regarded as by most members is MANDATORY.

I chose not to go on a mission while I was still in high school. I enlisted in the Army and the wrath of the ward was unleashed upon me. I kinda say that jokingly, but that is the way I felt at the time.

My Bishop, Seminary teacher, sunday school, priesthood leaders et al waged a constant campaign against me in order to straighten me out and get me to change my mind. My family was only passively supportive as they didnt hassle me. All my brothers went on missions except me. To this day, none of them gave me any grief.

My church leaders never let up though... well at least until I left then I never heard from them again.  I was fairly angry about how I was treated.

Fast fwd 4 yrs later and I found myself back home in a singles ward. I quickly found out there were young women who wouldnt give you the time of day unless you were an RM and others who were not so worked up about it. I married a fine young lady who was concerned if I would be a loving and industrious husband rather than just looking for someone who had "checked the box" as many did then and probably do to this day.

Anyway- I have kids now and my expectation is they do something productive in society. I dont really care if they go on missions and it is rarely talked about.

Our stake is on a constant offensive over making sure everyone knows it is expected of them (the boys that is). They basically say you are a second class citizen in the church unless you serve a mission. They dont put it that way, but that is the message. All the young ladies are reminded they should seek out an RM for a husband. Our Bishop came into Priesthood opening exercises a while back and made an announcement that the boys need to get their acts together because he didnt want any more young men to become unworthy and not go. He was upset because he had just had to help a young man cancel his mission call. He didnt say who it was, but we all knew. That kid has not been back to church since.

Anyway- i didnt go on a mission and I got my eagle, married in temple, have great kids, am active in the church, college degree, good job, never divorced and yet I see all around me many others who did the right thing who are complete failures in life. Not because they served a mission, but because a mission is not any guarantee of anything.  I also have many fellow brethren around me who served missions and are fine people with fine families.

A mission is for those who want to go. If you dont want to go- dont. Go do something worthwhile and move on. Be prepared to get an earful though.

    My two cents.

In a perfect world, you'd be 100% right.

But most of these liberal schmucks whining about "Pam Geller has free speech, but . . ." had no problem chortling their way through a performance of The Book of Mormon Musical (I'm lookin' at YOU, Hillary Clinton) and just last week were perfectly happy to force multiple sexual assault victims to relive their experience in a publicly humiliating way because they saw a chance to cut some obnoxious Evangelical Christians down to size.

This, and similar incidents, tell me that most of these folks don't really respect religions or the beliefs of the people who affiliate with those religions.  They're just afraid of Islam, which benefits from having a numerically sizable (if statistically infinitesimal) portion of its membership that is willing to kill--in an abnormally painful, gruesome, and visible manner--anyone who doesn't give Islam the respect they think it is due.

An individual who mocks as "enemies" some of the few people who would actually give their lives for that individual's freedoms, while simultaneously kowtowing to that individual's true enemies, is both morally despicable in his own right and is writing a prescription for suicide of the free democratic republic in which he lives.

Some ideas on how to earn one:

Come out as gay.  After all, in the 21st Century, you're never too young to explore sexual identity issues! Interview a family member who has been persecuted by those nasty religious zealots and draw a poster! Write a witty skit on why being gay is just better (Make sure it's a musical) Lecture a Christian of any denomination on why being gay is just as good IN EVERY WAY as being straight Draw a poster of at least 10 historical figures who were probably gay (even if they weren't) Help a Cub Scout build a FABULOUS rainbow pinewood derby car with all the gay marriage equality emblems on it Pretend to be gay for a week.  (Especially effective if done in teams of 2) Boycott Chik-Fil-A for a month Show up to the award ceremony in drag Attend a gay wedding Attend a gay pride event Join a pro-gay marriage demonstration Make signs for the demonstration Punch a Westboro Baptist in the face (To be fair, that one should get its own badge, IMHO)

Except being gay IS (for some reason people cannot seem to understand this) a DESIRE for sin. Being autistic "may" cause one to desire certain sins. It also may not. It is not the defining factor of it. It is, however, the defining factor of what homosexuality is. It is a desire for something sinful.

To make a truly compelling comparison, you'd have to use an example that sets someone up in a role where they have a desire for something sinful. Of course, as soon as you do that everyone calls foul and claims your comparing gays to this or that and how offensive and all that. But if you don't compare it that way, then the comparison doesn't work on any level, because having a desire for tomatoes is not the same thing.

Maybe an orthodox Jew's desire for bacon would work.
