  1. I don't buy cheap watches. But even if I did, I wouldn't subject them to torture and expect them to work--just like my wonderful automatic watches. Actually a cheap watch with a quartz movement would probably hold up better! What's the point of this story?????
  2. I tend to deal straight up. I do a little homework, and find out from others about competence, reputation and payment habits. Just as I do in the business world that I inhabit. I wouldn't treat a member of the church any different than other business relationships. i wouldn't expect a favor, nor a cut rate price. I wouldn't offer it either.:)
  3. I thanked Wingnut for her advice and so should you. I don't think much of whirlwind romances, but I'd be straightforward with your family and friends and tell them just what you have told us.
  4. People talk as if the events of the last days are still to come. These events are happening, and have already happened as mentioned by the prophet Joseph Smith and others. What suffering mentioned in the scriptures has not already been fulfilled by WWI and WWII among other tragedies?? Kingdoms have broken down. Many in the last 200 years. It is continuing with the future opening up of the gospel to more heathen nations. The wars that are necessary are occurring as I write this. There will be many stops and starts. I never thought the Iron Curtain would drop in my lifetime, but it did. But now there is a resurgence of authoritarianism in some of the old Soviet block countries. Stay true to the gospel. It has and is, insulating the true believers from a lot of the things that are ocurring today. Some of you don't seem to realize it.
  5. I like Bytebear's interpretation, and it might be correct. I've always been taught that Kolob was a place, and the Hymn certainly supports that as well. However it it's also possible that BOTH are true, and that while Kolob is a place, it's also representative of a type and organization.
  6. In reality, we have been told by all modern prophets that the last days are here. I don't really buy into the idea of the White Horse prophecy because of the necessity of the strength of the USA and Western Europe needed to fulfil God's purposes. Europe is much more socialistic than the US by almost any measure, and I can assure you that people there feel totally free by and large.
  7. Yes, my flight from Switzerland was only the day before, although it was direct to SFO and would have probably been able to bypass the storm.

    Any Ideas?

Just go and rent a car so you can go back to work. By the time your credit card payment is due all will be resolved.
  9. I'm Back!!! From Europe that is!!!! I said I was going, and this is my report to you. Yes, it's still there, the ATM machines work and they are still serving food and drink, I was able to find hotels, roads, food ........in a word EVERYTHING. See? Things are not so bad!!! Well one bad thing; my friend's car was broken into in Holland, but we were able to go the Germany to have it repaired!!! Yes, repair facilities too!!! And a lot of friendly helpful people.
  10. All the more reason to consider Stake conference a "Bye" week.
  11. I live in California, God's true country. Great weather, beaches, snow in the mountains (if you really really need 4 seasons), and people are generally the same everywhere IMHO. We have both good and bad. Like Washington State the politics are lefty in the cities, but in the rural counties (the majority of the land area!) where I live they're not. For lefties among you it could be paradise. Nancy Polosi lives here! And Harry Reid is the Senator in the next state! Only downside: Taxes are very high, and the State is technically bankrupt supporting lefty ideas.
  12. I would not stop going to church. That's a deal breaker FWIW.
  13. Most people use alcoholic beverages, and I doubt any court would use this against your fiance unless she is an alcoholic. Mormons should be good parents, but not all are. I doubt that joining the Church would sway the court either way.
  14. My father who was born in 1907 and remembered in his lifetime that sacrament meeting was done on Thursday nights.
  15. Actually, it is................................ Just being human.
  16. I would and have done it many times. BUT and it's a big one, always in a business setting. Usually when at a conference etc. For mere socializing I do multiples. Most of my co-workers are female and in fact, I'm their boss. So I must be very careful about appearances.
  17. As an inveterate reader, I say buy the books. You will anyway. It's not the $$ it's timing. You will still get baby stuff won't you? Actually you'll have to!
  18. Confront the rat and tell him to mind his own business. That way your mother or anyone else for that matter, won't be able to butt in because they won't know. What that person is doing is reprehensible, and I would cut his/her acquaintance. And yes, at some point you'll have to tell your mother to butt out too.
  19. Many people alive in 1879 certainly saw WWI, the most appalling war in human history up to that time.
  20. To previous posters: I'm not condoning abuse, but to you have been married twice, be sure to take a good look at yourselves. You're clearly not making wise choices in your relationships, and need to take an inward look.
  21. I personally wouldn't stay married to a liar and a cheater, and I'm surprised you have received opposite advice.
  22. I don't and neither does my wife.
  23. Now that I've read the entire thread I'll comment as follows. Of course texting or emailing interviews and callings is not correct, because these are supposed to be confidential. But for non-confidential information emails and text are certainly state of the art and the reason the Post Offices around the world are having financial problems. We need to get into the 21st Century!!!!
  24. IMNSHO The church does not use the electronic media enough. Look how long it took to get the missionaries cell phones! I remember doing splits with them in the pre cell phone era. I had one and we called all the appointments ahead. Turns out only one person was at home, whereas normally we would have gone to several houses and wasted a lot of time. email should be a standard thing in the church communications. Almost everyone has it and it would save a lot of postage for general communication purposes. Now that there is Wi-Fi in all the chapels the program could be downloaded so people could view it on their iPads, also saving a lot of paper. I could go on, but you get the picture.
