  1. Silicon Valley wear. Ie jeans, casual shirts and T shirts, recreational shoes.:) As soon as I'm released from my current teaching calling, I'm getting rid of all my ties and will start wearing Guayabera shirts to church. I have several already to go.
  2. All the above being said, I would go to the ward you are most comfortable with.
  3. You still have a home phone? Mine's soon going the way of the Dodo bird. People I want to talk to have my cell #. I don't answer it anymore-ever. My wife still does, not quite sure why. Can't even call out of the area code with it anymore!
  4. I ignore any number I don't recognize and will not call it back. Same deal on VM. I don't like it either, because the people that leave messages there are offended when it's not returned. I bought the expensive phone I have for MY convenience, and not that of others.
  5. If one believes in the Bible, the Ark certainly existed. Nobody knows where it is or if it even exists anymore. I think it may exist, because these types of things tend to be carefully preserved due to value and religious significance. Looted art is still being recovered from WW2 that was thought lost. Recently a very valuable drawing that was stolen many years ago turned up at a flea market. The Grail was the first sacrament cup, and was probably lost because the Apostles were unlikely to put any great significance to what was certainly an ordinary household object. May even have belonged to the owner of the room where they ate the Last Supper. It's likely lost IMHO. In the Indiana Jones movie, the cup was portrayed as being made of metal. How many of us have drink from a metal cup?? Likely it was pottery of some sort an is now in the "trash bin" of history.
  6. Quite a few rights in fact, Mineral, Oil and gas, Water, and yes, dinosaur bones and artifacts! On very old ownership parcels and in cities, no one thought about all these things too much. I've always live in large cities, but I remember in the 60s my dad sold the oil and gas rights under our home to Chevron. They canvassed the neighborhood to obtain this from every one. Not sure if any drilling ever took place. It's a very populated area. In Wyoming, it's very popular to retain the rights to dinosaur bones if you sell a property. Typically, Indian artifacts are in a separate category and by law don't belong to the landowner depending on treaties etc. Of course, wars have been fought over water rights.
  7. It's legal to own land in Great Britain, but very difficult to obtain because he owners don't like to sell. If one has a "freehold" there it's a good thing. In Hawaii the vast majority of the land is owned by the Bishop trust, nad must be leased from the trust. They're not selling. In Mexico it used to be that foreigners could not own land, but this changed with NAFTA. I think there are still restrictions on land within a certain distance from the coast. All in all, we are very lucky in the US because land is plentiful and cheap. It's also easy to obtain financing. In continential Europe for example 2/3 of people are renters. Here (and oddly in Britain), it is the opposite.
  8. Cpa
  9. The pin and Chip is universal in Europe. The magnetic stripe is dying there and getting harder to use, although I have not had any problem with it. Can't come soon enough to the USA.:)
  10. Nutcracker over the holidays.
  11. If you are cured, I'd forget this as far as "sinning" goes. I don't think what you did is sinning. When we were at the upper elevations of Bolivia (La Paz) and Cusco Peru several years ago, my wife guzzled Coca tea like it was going out of style because of altitude sickness. I don't think she ever considered this enough of a "sin" to go to the bishop about. We certainly never discussed it, although at the time I teased her about being a "coke" addict.
  12. I don't have anything password protected, not even my phone, but I guess I really don't like anyone looking over my shoulder. For a while my messages were synced with the wife, and it drove me nuts because she would sometimes reply to a message that was not for her. Don't really have any deep dark secrets, but I do like my privacy.
  13. Thirteen Articles of Faith are a good and fairly comprehensive summary of what we believe. I'm not sure which of these beliefs could not be true.
  14. As an experienced poker player, I would tell you to cut your losses, fold your hand and leave the table. BUT I'm only hearing your side of these issues, and there is another. The nonsense of being "in love" with ex girl friends more than your wife is indicative of a level of maturity that is not compatible with marraige. Worrying about what others think is another. So as opposed to my previous paragraph, I would say maybe you shouldn't be married due to a lack of maturity. One can only feel sorry for you wife.
  15. Avoid the second edition of The Hobbit, if you can. Boring.................
  16. We don't know that it's a sin. This is Catholic theology. Certainly not recommended.
  17. Put her regular name on it. By the time she's ready to marry everything will be digital anyway. Actually, it is already.:-)
  18. You have a year before are to be married. That should be long enough to have an understanding of your prospective partner. Good Luck!!!
  19. Nebuchadnezzar's dream[edit] Nebuchadnezzar's dream: the composite statue (France, 15th century). The description of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream includes a "great image, whose brightness [was] excellent... and the form thereof [was] terrible."[v.31] A general description of the personified image is given from head to toe: whose head was made of fine gold, a chest and arms of silver, a belly of brass,[v.32] legs of iron, and feet made partly of iron and partly of clay.[v.33] The vision is then continued by relating the Vision of stone, its characterization: "not cut by hands", and its action that causes a dispersion of the statue’s metals,[v.34] smashing them into stubble. The stone grows to fill the whole Earth.[v.35] This is the end of Days scenario in reality. Says so in the Bible. LDS commonly interpret the Stone to be the Church and/or Gospel.:)
  20. She's correct of course! Except for the unfair part. But you are in the right of it. For your family's sake.:)
  21. Sorry, Mudfisher about your problems. I've had similar. We have separate checking accounts, and I've cut her credit cards to one. Those charges come out of her allowance...yes, had to do that too. Basically had to say that if she runs up a tab somewhere, or charges more than her allowance on the CC (that gets paid off every month-no interest), its divorce time. I really got past caring about her irresponsibility. By dividing the finances this way (I pay all the bills, she pays only her phone--she likes to run that up too) we have been able to work together. Not without a lot of kicking and screaming about "not being a real marraige without a joint account" and "being treated as a child", etc etc. etc.
  22. All the cruises I've been on you are charged a tip in the bill on a daily basis. It is, however totally discretionary. You can go to the pursers office and change the amount, but AFAIK not direct to anyone in particular. On my last cruise, we tipped the waiter at our table, the bus girl and our valet for our room separately. I then went to the pursers office and deducted these amounts from the shared amount but keeping the total the same. You may use the bar more than you think. I'm a soda drinker (diet Coke) and I always get the "unlimited refill" card for this. It's good at dinners and all the refreshment places on the ship. Other than dinners, these beverages come from the "bar".
  23. Been to a lot of pro games (Warriors) and I like behind the hoop if I'm high up. If on the side, I like lower, but you are constantly swiveling your neck like following tennis! Corners, not so much. Your perspective is scewed, and IMO it's really the worst of both worlds. Sat on the floor once behind the bench, and while it's super close, the players were constantly milling in front partially blocking the view. Big $$$ for those.
  24. A couple of comments to avoid problems: You've only known her 4 months and you're talking marraige? Too soon IMHO. You still live at home and can't really afford to move. Get your education settled. You're correct in that you are not in any position to support a wife. You don't own a home or have any place to live as a married couple. Not a good start. Birth control has been invented. Assuming you ignore all my good advice about not being ready and laying a proper foundation for marraige, you don't need to have kids until you are done with your education. My best advice is to wait on marraige until your situation stabilizes. It's tough enough as it is with a proper foundation, but you're heading in with three strikes already against you (housing, education, lack of funds). Not to mention the fact that you barely know each other.
  25. Yes, that's my point. Just looking for food was a major problem for the expedition, as well as the tasks assigned to the group. One man alone would likely spend most of his time just trying to survive with the basics ie. food, clothing and shelter. Not an easy thing on a cold North American continent with deserts, snowy and rainy conditions and dense forest and mountains.
