  1. I’m confused as to why anyone would take any of the J6 accusations of “insurrection” seriously.  It’s been well established that what happened was not done by “right-wing extremists.”  Furthermore, those who listened to his speech that morning, know that Donald Trump never said anything even remotely close to inciting an insurrection.  In fact, he said the exact opposite.  He instructed everyone to be peaceful.  But…Donald Trump said it, so he was really telling them to incite violence. Right?

Also, those implying that Republicans trying to challenge the 2020 election are just doing the same thing that the Democrats did in the previous election, get real.  Anyone who can do basic math knows that the results from the 2020 election don’t add up.  In Detroit, on the night of the election, where thousands of ballots miraculously appeared overnight in favor of Biden, after Trump was winning, the election workers covered the windows during the count so that the public would not be able to see what was going on.  And don’t get me started on changing the rules before the election, along with all of the ballot harvesting.  It doesn’t take a conspiracy theorist to know that there was blatant cheating going on.  People were questioning things before Republicans even said anything about it, but they did have a right and a duty to challenge it.  I just wish they wouldn’t have given up so easily.

I also don’t understand this idea of “Well, I want to be fair minded and impartial, so to prove that to myself and to others, instead of actually looking at the truth, I’m just going to claim that both sides are equally guilty.”  Please.  While the Republican Party certainly has its own issues, the biggest problem is that it has been infiltrated by the left.  However, in no way whatsoever are the Republicans wrong on this issue.

I was raised in the Church, and was always taught that those who do not have the opportunity to receive the blessings of eternal marriage in this life, will do so in the next life.  And, yes, one must be sealed to a spouse to enter the highest degree of glory in the Celestial Kingdom; however, if one does not have that opportunity during their mortal probation, they will have that opportunity in the next life, so long as they are worthy.

My humerous and witty and cantankerous and irreverent father who, when I told him on his deathbed of my plans to get him sealed to all 3 of his wives and asked if there was any particular order he wanted me to do them in, replied "It doesn't matter, they're all in hell."

About a week before my father passed away from melanoma, he was in hospice care at home.  My oldest brother asked him if he had any pearls of wisdom to pass on before he died.  His simple response was, “Yeah.  Stay out of the sun.”

Intelligence is so much more advanced than it was during your time in Vietnam.  This was just outright embarassing on all parts that their intelligence nor the U.S. saw this coming.  Somehow Hamas was able to keep this so much under wraps that even with our advanced intelligence it wasn't detected.

I doubt it went undetected.  It was more likely ignored.

:animatedthumbsup:  I'm sure Klaw would like a place to complain about Meowmy.  For example, today, in addition to abandoning Klaw to go to something called "Church", Meowmy allowed a stranger in, and when the stranger left, and left behind a brownie, Meowmy didn't let Klaw have any of the brownie.  Further, Meowmy didn't allow Klaw to stay outside as long as Klaw wanted (she complained about "too hot" as if!).

(But in my experience, people use facebook in ways that I find exceedingly disappointing, and I expect Klaw would discover the same, so we came to our senses and got out a toy to play with instead.)

Arwen occasionally gets on to judge our Facebook posts.

  6. One problem, among many others, with the mandatory reporting laws, is that there is no accountability.  So, if an ex spouse, vindictive neighbor, or a school employee that simply doesn’t like the parents’ method of discipline, calls CPS and reports abuse, they can do so without any consequences of making a false report or exercising poor judgment.  Making a report to CPS is very serious, and can cause a lot of worry, stress and sometimes money to innocent families.  Anonymous reporting makes it too easy to file frivolous reports.  Now, people like educators are not completely anonymous, as CPS knows who made the allegation, but the parents are not allowed to know.  And quite frankly, if my child’s teacher is making allegations about me, that puts my child in danger, and I should have every right to know who that is.

I haven't seen the movie and don't intend to, but I know that a lot of the controversy around it has to do with Jim Caviezel's ties to Qanon, a group notorious for spreading lies, conspiracy theories, and misinformation about human sex trafficking. Child sex trafficking is a very serious issue. No one is denying that. But some people (like myself) would prefer not to support anything that might serve to legitimize Qanon rubbish.

It’s funny how people will try to discredit someone because they believe Qanon, yet believe the conspiracies and lies spouted from the likes of CNN and MSNBC.

:animatedlol:  Salads are good for you, you know.

One of the cats we had when I was a teenager loved to read the bible - as soon as you opened it, she came to join your reading session. :)

Apparently, lilies are poisonous to cats, as evidenced by the deposit Arwen (our cat) made under our keyboard in the living room.

My previous cat must have been anti-LDS.  He would hide under the covers while I read The Book of Mormon and randomly reach out and strike the pages I was reading with his paw.  I think he put a hole in a few of those pages.

  9. My wife and I got our daughters a kitten two years ago.  We all love that cat, even though she tried to eat the flowers my kids and I got my wife for Mother’s Day.

Some say cats are evil, but our feline friend was caught reading “The Teachings of Gordon B. Hinckley.” See picture below.IMG_6972.thumb.jpeg.1bbe5355375cb9f4ff464deda5d0ae46.jpeg

The Trumpers turning on Mike Pence-a conservatives conservative was very validating to me. It proved that they worship Trump and don’t care at all about conservatism.

Mike Pence is hardly a conservative’s conservative.  And he did have the right to not accept the results of the election that day.  His job was to make that decision, and it’s been proven since then that the election was stolen.  As for things Trump said that day, there was absolutely nothing he said that would have put Pence’s family in danger.  I watched his speech at the Capitol, and Trump specifically said to protest peacefully.  Anyone who says otherwise either didn’t watch his speech or is a liar, or both.

It proved that they worship Trump and don’t care at all about conservatism.

It proves that some people still fall for the anti-Trump rhetoric rather than think critically for themselves.

That sounds scarily like an actual Hollywood proposal. Among other things, I think this shows just how formulaic Hollywood ideas are. (Except the title "Gorillas in the 'Burbs" ain't gonna cut it. Maybe "Picking Fleas and Flicking Peas".)

I figured it was parodying the title “Gorillas in the Mist.”

  12. I asked it to write a plot for a sitcom.

Jedi_Nephite: Write a sitcom about a family of gorillas living in the suburbs.

    Title: "Gorillas in the 'Burbs"

The show follows the adventures of the Silverback family, a group of gorillas who have escaped from the zoo and are now living in a suburban neighborhood. The patriarch of the family, Harold, is a strict but loving father who just wants his family to blend in with their human neighbors. His wife, Gladys, is a nurturing mother who is constantly trying to keep Harold's more wild impulses in check.

Their children include teenage daughter, Tina, who is trying to navigate the complexities of high school while also keeping her gorilla heritage a secret, and son, Louie, a mischievous young gorilla who is always getting into trouble.

Each episode finds the Silverback family facing new challenges as they try to fit in with their human neighbors while also retaining their gorilla instincts. Whether it's Harold struggling to control his temper during a neighborhood barbecue, Gladys trying to find a way to get Tina to the prom without revealing her true identity, or Louie getting into a fight with the neighborhood bullies, the Silverback family always sticks together and finds a way to make it work.

At the end of each episode, the family gathers around the dinner table to share their latest adventures and reflect on the importance of family and sticking together, no matter what.

"Gorillas in the 'Burbs" is a comedy that blends heartwarming family moments with wild, slapstick humor, and is sure to have audiences laughing and rooting for the Silverback family every step of the way.

I do not know. I don't understand demonic possession, nor do I understand what is meant by "out of whom went seven devils." I do believe that Mary Magdalene was an unusually virtuous person and obviously dearly loved by the Lord. I think it unconscionable and spiritually criminal to smear such a person with baseless charges of harlotry.

I wouldn’t say the charges of harlotry are completely baseless.  She was obviously spiritually disturbed.  “Out of whom went seven devils” means that Jesus cast seven demons out of her.  That only happens to those who are far removed from the spirit.  That being said, because Jesus healed her, she regained the opportunity to become an “unusually virtuous person.”  Her past didn’t matter anymore, as she made a firm decision to become a disciple of Christ.

I see both sides of the matter and why they did it. The idea was fine. The execution was....less so.

I think the idea would have been fine if they would have used a fictional character instead of a historical figure.

It’s still a good show, though.

As I wrote before, a scurrilous lie.

Possibly, but Luke 8:2 does say, “Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils.”

That doesn’t necessarily mean she was a prostitute, gambler or a carouser, but people don’t have devils inside of them unless they are doing something in their lives to invite them.

This has been a point of......curiosity...maybe for me. I'm not sure that's the word. It's one of the few semi-critiques I have of the show. It doesn't, necessarily, diminish my enjoyment of the show. It's just one of those, "not how I'd have done it" things. But since we don't really know, we don't really know.

There are some examples of this where I sort of just flat out think they're doing it wrong...like having Jesus needing to work out the details and then "practice" the sermon on the mount. Just feels wrong to me.

But then there are the moments of Jesus's humor, about which I just don't know how to feel. I actually really love that they did it. I like the character. It's enjoyable and fun. Etc. But....... a lot of humor (including Jesus's in the show) is based on sarcasm. And sarcasm is a lie, ultimately. Everyone understands it's a lie, which is why it's funny. It's that understanding that makes sarcasm work. But when Jesus says something that is plainly false as a joke I struggle a bit with it. Because he's saying something untrue.

(for example, Jesus might have a line like, "And we all know Peter never get's into fights with anyone...." and everyone laughs because Peter's known for having gotten into fights in the past.)

Like I said, kind of more a curiosity than a complaint. I, personally, wouldn't dare do such a thing. Putting words into Jesus's mouth that aren't truth...nope....I wouldn't do it. But the fact that they did it hasn't really bothered me too much...because they're obviously jokes. But intellectually I'm aware of it and feel unsure.

Agreed.  This pretty much sums up my thoughts on the show.  I enjoy it, but they often take certain liberties that I don’t think are appropriate.  One thing that bothered my wife and I is when they had an episode where Mary Magdalene relapsed to her previous lifestyle prior to getting healed by Jesus.  Now, there is nothing to suggest that Mary Magdalene did such a thing.  That’s one reason why her change was such a miracle.   The justification by the writers of the show for her relapse was to show that we all repent and fall again.  While that is often the case, I disagree with taking a historical person, who is known for her miraculous change, and making it less…miraculous.  She was a devoted follower of Jesus.

I'll admit that I haven't seen the entire series so far.  I've seen partial episodes here and there as I happen to come in the room when my family is playing it.  I believe my wife has seen the entire series so far.

I'm impressed at how disciplined they are to keeping the doctrines as close to the Biblical text as possible.  From time-to-time I've noticed some doctrines that are more evangelical than Biblical.  But it is minimal.

I've liked how they rounded out the characters as human (Jesus included, in some ways).  Everyone else is given very human weaknesses, but still fairly "good people".  Even the Romans aren't shown to be monolithic.  They have varying levels of "niceness" to the Jews.  They added the character "Eden" because we know Peter was married.  But his wife is never mentioned in the Biblical narrative.  That was a pretty cool addition.  It adds to the plot and storyline, even if it is fiction.  I didn't like how effeminate they made Matthew.  But whatever.

The creators of The Chosen have said that Matthew is supposed to have a form of autism.  I’m not entirely sure why they chose to write him that way, as there is nothing in the scriptures to suggest he had autism (as far as I know), but that’s why he seems a little different than the other apostles.
