  1. nu-metal never can seem to fit in with old metal. (insert image of monopoly man wearing KISS make-up)
  2. Thank you. My wife and I thought about using Zoom or WebEx so other people could 'attend'. But our Stake President is extremely reluctant to have ordinances on video. And that feels right to me. We are doing it in my parent's backyard pool, so we're going to be able to have a few more than 10 people there.
  3. I thought about starting a new thread, but figured it'd make more sense to update this one. I had a membership council with my Stake Presidency (hurrah for the handbook changes!) about 5 weeks ago. They made the decision to suggest to headquarters I could get baptized again. I got a call from my Stake President on Sunday that the Area president opened up baptisms and that I can schedule it. Tonight, I will again be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! Thank you for being a wonderful community that has helped me in this journey. (Not to imply that it's over)
  4. Don't forget ladies wearing pants to church!
  5. My high school had a club called the John Hanson Society. Our government teacher was the faculty advisor. It's goal was to reduce the national debt. https://www.constitutionfacts.com/us-articles-of-confederation/john-hanson-story/
  6. Do those numbers per ton include the cost of fuel for operating the equipment? I think there might be some savings there as well.
  7. I've seen @Vortpost more links to CNN articles than anyone else on this forum. Usually it's to point out how he disagrees with them, though.
  8. add me to that list

  10. Less favorable for the virus or for us?
  11. She even put her hands behind her back for him. Then tried to pull away when he called her bluff. They also should have had a plan to take care of her kids instead of crying about it after the fact. Did they expect the officer to say "Oh, your kids are here, I guess I can't arrest/detain you"
  12. The only time I read CNN articles is when @Vort links them here
  13. Given how little outrage there was about the play The Book of Mormon, I doubt there will be any outrage about this.
  14. Can we stop with the mild insults? You all are getting nowhere.
  15. My wife has played this song a lot the last few weeks.
  16. After he said that, I remember writing in my notes "what will I sacrifice in the next few days?" Right now, I haven't come up with anything other than food and drink. For personal reasons, I'm fasting today instead of tomorrow. It's really hard for me at work because I usually go through 3-4 liters of water at my desk. Maybe that's my sacrifice, fasting in a different environment that's more difficult.
  17. I have a nephew who came home. He did not get a test (I don't think there are enough to go around). He and his family are in self-quarantine for two weeks.
  18. James 1:1, to me, just says he is writing with a shotgun blast style. He acknowledges that they are scattered and hopes his message will reach them. I know a lot of other Christians believe in the gathering of Israel and even look forward to it. But I don't think any other church even claims to be doing it now. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is gathering Israel (or at least claims to be for those that don't believe).
  19. I can understand somewhat. That is hard. I don't have any wisdom or insight that would help you. But I know that expressing and sharing issues or problems like these can help a person get a better understanding of it and start to be able to change. I wish you the best in your endeavor, @Jane_Doe
  20. I've read quite a few Marvel comics on my smart phones the last few years. I enjoy them. The app goes frame by frame zooming in on some parts and pulling back on others. It's not the same as physical comics, but the convenience is nice.
  21. Home-centered temple ordinances are next to be announced!
  22. I had an uncle pass away Monday in California. (Nothing COVID-19 related) Two of his children were taking turns staying with him at the hospital. They aren't going to have a funeral. The mortuary will handle the burial. For now, they are planning a memorial service sometime in the late summer.
  23. I've heard stories of two different people going to the same hospital for the same surgery in the same month and having vastly different total charges. Nope. I don't think there is. It's crazy.
  24. Great suggestions. You could also encourage him to set up boundaries to keep him safe. Some examples are 1. Not taking the phone into the bathroom 2. Not using it after a certain time at night. 3. There are apps that can track time and app usage on the phone. This can help him realize how he spends his time. 4. Create a list of 'fire drills' that he can do in moments of stress or triggers like: a. Reach out to someone he can trust and talk to. b. Physically move, whether jog, or do push ups, or walk into another room. c. Look at a picture that reminds him of his values. Like of Jesus, the temple or his family. d. Work on memorizing a scripture, a poem or something to get his mind working on something else. 5. Have a daily checklist of things to do. Mine includes exercise, listen to 2 or 3 conference talks or a recovery podcast, study scriptures, morning and evening prayer, journal writing or other recover work like 12 steps.
  25. From the handbook 38.7.2 Cremation The Church does not normally encourage cremation. The family of the deceased must decide whether the body should be cremated, taking into account any laws governing burial or cremation. In some countries, the law requires cremation. Where possible, the body of a deceased member who has been endowed should be dressed in temple clothing when it is cremated. A funeral service may be held (see 29.6). https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/general-handbook/38-church-policies-and-guidelines?lang=eng
