  1. I hadn't thought of it before, that I recall. I'd go with it meaning mountains.
  2. This is a great discussion. I don't have much to add. But I did want to point out that C.S. Lewis is quoted in our meetings more often than almost any other person not of our faith. I've heard some people even jokingly refer to him as "Elder Lewis," the title we give members of the Twelve Apostles.
  3. I haven't researched it myself, but I have heard that someone performed a vicarious baptism for Alvin soon after the doctrine was revealed.
  4. Is this like the opposite of Youtube comments where people try to be the first comment by just saying "First!"? Last!
  5. To me, it seemed to happen near the end of the Mask thread. MG and Grunt got into it. MG left and the thread got closed. The forums haven't seemed the same since then.
  6. I think "species" is a great word to use there. Talking about humans and angels is like talking about caterpillars and butterflies.

    Masks

My wife made two cloth/denim masks for each family member. They're my favorite.
  8. I think this says it better than I've been able to. The first amendment protects speech from government interference, not consequences from other individuals or businesses. Yes, getting killed for what you say is awful. But I don't think it's a first amendment issue.
  9. The first amendment protects free speech from the government's involvement. It doesn't prevent a private business from firing an employee for their speech.
  10. Of all the things to be able to taste........That's too bad. Prayers for your family to have a speedy recovery.
  11. I'm finally really starting to try indexing. The first document that came up for me was a marriage index page. The instructions have been pretty easy to follow and I was moving along fine for a while. The page I'm on is a list of Brides and part of it shows the Groom's name. One of the grooms is a Junior. I don't see anything in the instructions on how to record that. Does it go in the Given Name or the Surname section? I don't see anywhere else it might go. Thanks!
  12. To go back a bit, a one word question is easy to misunderstand. To clear it up, you are asking how asymptomatic people can spread the virus. Is that correct? While that question of how the virus spreads doesn't seem to be specifically addressed in those articles, I imagine it's the same way symptomatic people do, through exhaled droplets that are then inhaled or otherwise brought into contact by another person. Another thing to keep in mind is that asymptomatic is different from pre-symptomatic. A person who has contracted Covid can be contagious days before they show symptoms. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/7/20-1595_article
  13. In Nevada, the governor started with asking. He felt there were too many people who still weren't following the suggestions. That's when he went with the mandate. As for the bold, most articles I've read completely disagree.
  14. 1) Everybody is a potential carrier. We don't know who is or isn't. I personally don't trust other people to self-regulate to stay home when sick. 2) Masks are a tool that helps reduce the spread of the virus. 3) Any mask can reduce (not stop) the spread of droplets, some better than others. 4) Being able to socialize with a mask is better than being quarantined without in-person interaction. 5) We can't stop the viral spread, but we can slow it down so hospitals and other care units don't get overwhelmed. I understand the fight against government mandates requiring masks. But masks are effective. https://www.sltrib.com/news/2020/07/20/utah-records-new/
  15. My wife and I have gotten a lot of that too. Our ward had an Girl's Quaran-camp in June. Originally it was going to be almost all virtual, along with a scavenger hunt that could be done in the car. It then evolved to include an opening breakfast at a park, 2 devotionals in the chapel, and a pool party. My wife took our 12 year old daughter to the breakfast, and no one was wearing masks or distancing until my wife asked them to. When the text went out about the devotionals, there was no mention of masks. My wife texted the YW Camp Director and asked for her to send another asking people to wear masks. She told her no, it wasn't necessary. (In Nevada it was part of the mandate) She took her anyway and one other family was wearing masks. Everyone was sitting up front. My wife and daughter sat near the back, alone. We got a lot of comments about how we seem withdrawn, overly-cautious, and even aloof.
  16. I'm hoping to help her feel comfortable being in her backyard.
  17. It's just that you've mentioned backyards a couple times. I don't think any state has said that. Some say all public places, but backyards aren't public. https://www.cnet.com/health/where-are-face-masks-required/
  18. I'm not aware of anyone who has suggested a wear masks everywhere plan. Is that a real thing?
  19. I agree. And I have difficulty understanding people who refuse to wear masks where they 'should' and use the reasoning that they are protesting the mandates. Disobeying is not the same as protesting. I have a friend who will only wear a mask if he needs to go to Costco because they won't let him in the store without it. Then he wears it only over his mouth. He claims he's standing up for his freedom. I tried to tell him, no one notices or cares. It's not making the statement he thinks it is.
  20. Yes I understood. I don't think it's a confusing graphic. I still think 8.66% is very high for a single virus. There are a lot of resources that have gone into fighting heart disease and cancer for years. And why I asked about other viruses for a better comparison.
  21. It seems your intent with these numbers is to show how small the percent of COVID deaths there will be in 2020. But 8.66% seems INCREDIBLY high to me. When was the last time a virus pushed those numbers? (Not a rhetorical question, if you know, I'd be very interested)
  22. A mandate without enforcement or consequences is essentially a suggestion. I'm just fine if that's the case.
  23. I don't see the word evil anywhere in his post. Or even as an implication. I think it's fair, not uncalled for, to point out people's past choices when they are running for political offices. It's the only real indicator of what we have of their future actions. JJ didn't say anything about qualifications either. Maybe this is why his posts are usually longer, so others don't misinterpret what he says
