My nephew was serving in the Philippines. He just got home last night. I heard about 1,600 missionaries went through SLC airport yesterday. He had a connecting flight to Arizona, so they weren't one of the families that Gov. Herbert was disappointed in. Phew. https://kjzz.com/news/local/lt-gov-cox-disappointed-in-missionary-families-at-airport-who-did-not-social-distanc

That's how I understood the quote also.

I want to give this both a laugh and a cry reaction...... At my work, as of today we are going to 'skeleton crews' at the office and taking turns working from home. To limit our exposure to others. Our controller brought all 9 of us in the department into her office to tell us of the plan........She failed to see the irony.

A couple months ago, I started going through old conference talks, starting in 2001 when I was preparing for my mission. This morning I just listened to Pres. (then Elder) Oaks' talk in April 2004. I really liked his comparison of 72-hour kits to the 10 virgins' supply of oil and having spiritual preperation kits. I think that's what we've been developing with the last year of Come Follow Me. My family's transition to home church went a lot smoother than it would have a year or two ago. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/2004/04/preparation-for-the-second-coming?lang=eng

Jesus did not socially distance himself from the lepers.

This is a friend of mine. She put these together to help explain things, including why social isolating can help. Short version, we need to lengthen out the time people get it, so that hospitals and health workers don't get overwhelmed all at once. -
Nope, the question is still should the OP should consider marrying her boyfriend who has struggled or does struggle with a porn addiction. Your answer was a flat "No." Nothing added about it being a deal breaker for some and not for others. Your follow up post said that same thing. She should not marry him because of his issues with porn. If you really think he can be redeemed, I think you need to add some qualifiers in your responses and not be so adamant in answer.
-
You are saying that her decision can be boiled down to his porn addiction. Flat out. No other consideration. It seems like you would apply this to anyone this guy would consider marrying. As long as he's being honest with the woman he dates, he won't get married in the temple. I believe this man is redeemable and can be part of a happy healthy marriage. He's already pursuing help. Having a person to be accountable to is a huge benefit in recovery. My issues were not limited to pornography and those are what has caused most of my wife's pain. If I had gotten ahead of my issues before marriage, our relationship now would be much different.

It's not a well known movie, but Rubin and Ed was hilarious. One of my favorites. I've tried to get other people to watch it, and most people just don't enjoy it. They don't hate it, but don't see the point. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102817/ Waterworld was great. Dennis Hopper is always an excellent choice for a bad guy. Joe Dirt is so much better than any Adam Sandler movie. (except maybe Happy Gilmore) John Carter was incredible to watch. It's not a great movie, but I like it. (I love the books too)

I've been working on recovering from a sex addiction mainly compulsive porn use for 14 months. I had the problem for over almost 25 years. I've got a long way to go still. My wife has been a great support, but she's suffered a lot through this as well. I think there is hope for anyone. My advice is to learn and keep learning about it. You'll get your own individual revelation on how to proceed. There are a lot of resources available, both from the church and other sources, for those who struggle with pornography and for people who know someone who does. Here are a few I use. https://addictionrecovery.churchofjesuschrist.org/?lang=eng https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/life-help-and-self-reliance/pornography?lang=eng https://tech.churchofjesuschrist.org/wiki/Family_Safety https://pathformen.com/ https://leadingsaints.org/tag/addiction/ https://reach10.org/ https://fightthenewdrug.org/ https://unashamedunafraid.com/ https://www.covenanteyes.com/

This seems harsh. Are you saying someone with a porn addiction (compulsive use disorder) are not able to overcome their weakness and be worthy?

That is a tough spot. I'm sorry you and your kids are going through this. My grandmother fought brain cancer for a couple years before she died. Before she passed, she actually told my grandfather who he should marry. Of course they were in different circumstances. All their children were grown, most had kids of their own. It worked out pretty well for everyone, but there were still some hard emotions for the family while going through it. You've gotten some great advice, even if it's not the answer you were specifically looking for. I can't help with that. What I'd like to add though, is that you don't have to let your minor children live with someone else. If you want to keep your family together, I think it'd be best to have them under your roof. I wish you the best, man.

Tithing on children paying board for living expenses

I think you have a decent stance, and I wouldn't argue with your logic. It's how I would probably handle it. It seems though, that your wife has other thoughts and you might be close-minded as to her reasons. $5 a month seems like straining at a gnat. -
I got married while still in college. But where we lived, we didn't have a married student ward. We went straight to a regular family ward. It took some adjusting, trying to find where and how we could fit in. We did make some good friends, and I think we got to experience being Scout leaders, YW/YM leaders, and being in primary before we had kids. I think that was very helpful for us. I don't think anyone would frown upon trying out a ward for a week or two. I am curious if you've talked to your leaders about it. I have no experience with married student wards, but if you're not students anymore, I'd imagine they would want you to 'graduate' to a family ward.

When it comes to politics in USA, it seems to me that just showing up and casting a ballot isn't enough to be considered part of any solution. When choices A, B, C, and D are all bad, it's 'good' to pick the least bad option. But to be part of making it better means going to caucuses, writing letters to representatives, joining groups that align with your values to increase the chance of being heard, or even throwing your hat into the ring. We're way past the day of "Don't blame me, I didn't vote for him."

I haven't tried to read Jane Austin since high school. I got a few pages in and quit to go back to Orson Scott Card, Robert Jordan, and Edgar Rice Burroughs. This makes about as much sense to me now as her book did to me then

Joe Biden bravely and openly proclaims his own damnation.

A lot of people made promises/threats like that about Trump winning. I hope you keep your word better than they did -
That seems weird to me. In my wards in the past, they try hard to have two priesthood holders in the building whenever the Relief Society has an activity. I haven't noticed requests for volunteer men like that in the last couple years though.

https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ensign/1984/11/why-do-we-serve?lang=eng (Then) Elder Oaks gave six reasons why people serve in the church. I think the reasons can also be applied to why people keep the commandments. He says the second to highest reason is for the hope of an eternal reward. The best reason is because we have become the kind of person who wants to, because we love other people and God.

I think someone messed up calling it the Corona Virus instead of the Fung Flu. For now, I think the best protection is prevention. Wash hands, avoid sick people if possible, install an irradiation room in your entryway.

Thanks for the write up. It was good for me to review the Plan again. One pet peeve of mine I inherited from an Institute teacher is the use of the word "Pre-existence." There is no such thing. We've always existed in one form or another. It's more accurate to use pre-mortal life or pre-mortal existence. Now, that nit has been picked. Thanks again.

20 There is a alaw, irrevocably decreed in bheaven before the foundations of this world, upon which all cblessings are predicated— 21 And when we obtain any ablessing from God, it is by bobedience to that law upon which it is predicated. These verses could be read as: There is one law that all blessings come from. Any and all blessing comes from obedience to that law. It's not the law of fasting, the law of tithing, the law of chastity. I don't know what that law is, my guess is the law of obedience....

It gives the impression that if one doesn't fast, those blessings are unavailable. It seems others are saying that at least some of those blessings can be obtained in other ways.
