It is snowing here. Literally snowing. There should be a law ...

There's a reason Califonia real estate is expensive. No snow in SF Bay Area.:P

And there is a reason why Canada is mostly empty of people!

I wouldn't say that over 35 million is "empty of people". Yes we have a lot of land to cover and some of it is inhabitable but we still count. ☺

You know what we say to each other here in Colorado Springs about this time of the year?  "Nice weather - only three more blizzards until winter!"

A few years ago we had hail and could see our breath on the 4th of July.

As much as I am tired of winter in April, it could be worse. I picked up Richard L. Bushman's book Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling from our local library. In it he tells a bit of the family history for both Joseph and Emma. He mentions that 1816 was known in the Northeast as "the year without summer." He writes that "on June 8th several inches of snow fell across the highlands of northern New York and New England, and ice formed on the ponds" (27). I think that would be it for me. I would have to move south.

It used to say on Michigan license plates "Winter Wonderland", so you ought to appreciate that nice snow.  It can be fun stuff.

As to that book, I had read reviews that it was less than flattering about Joseph Smith so I decided to skip it.

One good one I found was the history of Joseph Smith by his mother, which I can't remember her name, but as you might expect, it was favorable to him.

One to truly avoid is a history of Joseph Smith by Fawn Brodie.  Skip it.  Pure hatchet job, with no facts or evidentiary support, just negative conclusions.

The 1816 year without summer was due to a volcanic eruption in I think the south Pacific that left volcanic ash in the air over the entire planet.  There were other occasions when that happened as well.

I think Bushman mentions the volcanic eruption in his footnotes. I have had several different LDS people recommend this book as good.
