Jane_Doe Posted April 2, 2016 Report Posted April 2, 2016 Oh you hot-landers don't know what snow is!! My co-worker went to the mountains to do some field work for us, on equipment which is about 8 ft above the ground. Problem is, when he got there, he couldn't find any of the equipment because it was so buried! Maureen, poohthebear and Sunday21 3 Quote

I wouldn't say that over 35 million is "empty of people". Yes we have a lot of land to cover and some of it is inhabitable but we still count. ☺ Edited April 3, 2016 by Maureen Quote

NeuroTypical Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 (edited) You know what we say to each other here in Colorado Springs about this time of the year? "Nice weather - only three more blizzards until winter!" A few years ago we had hail and could see our breath on the 4th of July. Edited April 10, 2016 by NeuroTypical Sunday21 1 Quote
Steve Noel Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 It just keeps getting worse. We got a bunch of snow today. The roads are terrible. Quote
Steve Noel Posted April 10, 2016 Report Posted April 10, 2016 (edited) As much as I am tired of winter in April, it could be worse. I picked up Richard L. Bushman's book Joseph Smith: Rough Stone Rolling from our local library. In it he tells a bit of the family history for both Joseph and Emma. He mentions that 1816 was known in the Northeast as "the year without summer." He writes that "on June 8th several inches of snow fell across the highlands of northern New York and New England, and ice formed on the ponds" (27). I think that would be it for me. I would have to move south. Edited April 10, 2016 by Steve Noel jerome1232 and Sunday21 2 Quote

David13 Posted April 11, 2016 Report Posted April 11, 2016 Steve Noel It used to say on Michigan license plates "Winter Wonderland", so you ought to appreciate that nice snow. It can be fun stuff. As to that book, I had read reviews that it was less than flattering about Joseph Smith so I decided to skip it. One good one I found was the history of Joseph Smith by his mother, which I can't remember her name, but as you might expect, it was favorable to him. One to truly avoid is a history of Joseph Smith by Fawn Brodie. Skip it. Pure hatchet job, with no facts or evidentiary support, just negative conclusions. The 1816 year without summer was due to a volcanic eruption in I think the south Pacific that left volcanic ash in the air over the entire planet. There were other occasions when that happened as well. dc LeSellers and Steve Noel 2 Quote
