April 2025 General Conference Discussion

I'm getting the impression we should center our lives on Christ. Also, maybe we should go inside those temples that are being built every once in a while. Even after the tours and dedications.3 points -
Let us consider the cost of God’s precious love. Jesus revealed that to atone for our sins and redeem us from death, both physical and spiritual, His suffering caused Himself, “even God, the greatest of all, to tremble because of pain, and to bleed at every pore, and to suffer both body and spirit—and would that [He] might not drink the bitter cup, and shrink.” His agony in Gethsemane and on the cross was greater than any mortal could bear. Nevertheless, because of His love for His Father and for us, He endured, and as a consequence, He can offer us both immortality and eternal life. - D. Todd Christofferson, "Abide in My Love" Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God; For, behold, the Lord your Redeemer suffered death in the flesh; wherefore he suffered the pain of all men, that all men might repent and come unto him. And he hath risen again from the dead, that he might bring all men unto him, on conditions of repentance. And how great is his joy in the soul that repenteth! - Doctrine and Covenants 18:1-132 points

In my considered opinion, I believe every address I’ve heard thus far in this session of conference is inspired of God enough to be included in the Standard Works of the church. It’s also very evident to me that that the Lord has a very “deep bench” of dynamic spiritual leaders who could be called upon to become apostles.2 points -

Neil L Andersens talk was a breath of fresh air. Only seen Saturday morning and afternoon sessions due to being in the wrong time zone to enjoy it all live. But I've noticed lots of references to oil in lamps, the parable of 10 virgins and spiritual preparedness and some reference temporal preparedness. Elder Andersen, Elder Holland and Elder Uchtdorf my favourite talks so far.2 points -

one hour church?
NeuroTypical reacted to laronius for a topic
I have heard through the grapevine of at least one stake here in AZ with one hour meetings but it's also an area with historical logistical problems (too many members moving there to keep up with buildings) so I guess that's not very good proof of anything.1 point -
one hour church?

The only specifics I ever heard were about one particular stake that had at least some wards meeting for one hour as a temporary thing while a building was being renovated.1 point -

I have to shake my head and laugh at some of the things you say... The total number of gang members do not outnumber the total number of the US military or law enforcement. There are approximately 700,000 gang members in the US. There are approximately 1.2 million police officers in the US. There are approximately 2 million members of the military in the US. Now add in the retired members of both the military and law enforcement who are still capable of operating. Yeah, gangs would die in droves. The violent left would die in droves. VERY few of those gang members have any sort of firearms or tactical skills. Most of them hate each other so most of them will not work together...for any reason. Next point, see @NeuroTypical's comment above about AOC and Pelosi and gangs.1 point -

Obviously, there is going to church on Easter. Putting out a resurrection scene set (like a nativity/creche, but with tomb instead of stable). I have heard of people putting Jesus in the tomb on Friday and then taking him out early Sunday morning for their kids to see him resurrected. I started building a list of atonement-themed music to play in the time leading up to Easter several years back. There are also a few movies I like to watch: Easter Dream, The Testaments, and a documentary on Handel's Messiah that BYUtv did around 2014. I just searched for all three on the BYUtv site and couldn't find them, unfortunately.1 point -

I've heard the rumors too. Always a friend of a friend (of a friend...)0 points -
Already seeing at least one individual on social media bringing the fire and brimstone because one of the speakers said missions were essentially a commandment. The person in question was calling anyone who didn't serve wicked, sinful, slothful, and the like, then started trolling anyone who called them out over the matter or noted that there are in fact valid reasons why some members might not be comfortable with wearing a name tag (such as being neurodivergent to the point that they'd struggle to function in a formal mission environment). I have a very bad feeling that this talk is going to be weaponized and do a lot of damage accordingly.0 points
