The way I see it is that it all boils down to Trump. If you like him, you believe Kavanaugh. If you dislike him, you believe Ford.

I watched the hearing with an open mind, giving Dr Ford a chance to prove her allegations. I didn't hear any evidence on her behalf, and was amazed how scatterbrained she seemed to be having a degree in psychology. She honestly seemed confused at words she should have learned in both high school and college. As I watched and listened to her.... I felt red flags going up.

That woman needs more help than any FBI investigation can give her.

I think Trump is a pig, a patriotic pig, but a pig nonetheless. I think he tries hard to do his best for our country, but that's about the best thing I can say about him.

I honestly think Kavanaugh is getting railroaded - my feelings don't have anything to do with if I like Trump or not.

Kavanaugh is the Mitt Romney of Catholics.  Nobody is immune.

I'm not saying anything against Kavanaugh- but Romney backed gay rights and gay marriage in Massachusetts to further his agenda as governor.

I lost my respect for the man at that time. He was a poor example as a Church Member standing up for what is right.

I hope that Brett Kavanaugh is a better Catholic than Romney is a Mormon.

(Juanita) "Broaddrick slammed the mantra "All women deserve to be believed." (When she said) “All women are to be believed if they’re not conservatives and as long as the assault was not done by Democrats," she said"

There is a difference in that Juanita B HAD evidence, she was torn and battered and the Democrats turned their backs on her and threw their support to Clinton.

This whole thing just makes me mad and sick to my stomach.

Double standards depending on political party.

  4. I don't know about anyone else- but I did stupid things in high school, heck I've done some stupid things in adulthood. But repentance is a wonderful thing, it's nice to have a clean slate with God.

That being said Brett Kavanaugh has gone through 6 extensive FBI checks over his career; and although I don't have much faith in the upper tiers of the FBI, I do have confidence with the agents who do the actual work. And I'm sure they went back as far as his elementary years.

This woman might believe everything she says happened..... my ex believed all the garbage he told people he did too. Only thing is he didn't do half of what he said he did, but he's such a gifted liar- he actually believes his lies.

She waited until Judge Kavanaugh was on the rise in his career before her "recollection" in 2012 in a therapists office, and according to USA Today ...." without mentioning the name of a perpetrator" in that sudden recall. THEN she waits until 2018 to bring it to political attention- only this time she has a name, only she doesn't want HER NAME used. She wants to speak, then she didn't want to speak, then she wanted to speak only after another FBI investigation. Red flag, red flag, red flag.   RED FLAG.

I'm not that educated in government or politics but I have an idea that the FBI doesn't classify a 36 year old hazy/ incomplete accusation as breaking a federal law or raising a national security issue. I would think that any investigation should be done by her lawyer and her resources.

I firmly believe it's all a last ditch political effort to delay the SCOTUS vote. Nothing more.

I feel for the woman for putting herself in the middle of everything with a hazy, inaccurate memory. Sorry Not sorry.

Here is what I think actually happened.  The guy has a crappy car.  He wants a better car.  He has comprehensive insurance on his car and find a victim driving too close.  He jams on the brakes causing an accident.  He collects money from insurance, calls me telling me a sob story how insurance won't pay and tries to collect additional funds from me to help him get a better car.

Unfortunately it happens all the time. Sad we can't trust people all the time.

MAKE SURE that the damages are those that were actually CAUSED by the accident (this is why you have insurance people because sometimes people claim damages from accidents that were not actually from that accident).

Very good idea there Johnson J!  My daughter hit a Camero (with my car) years ago in a parking lot, and the other guy tried to get our insurance company pay for damage that was years old (rusty). It took a keen eye to catch that rust.

And I will agree with those who say call your insurance company, pay through your insurance company the $1000- make sure you have documentation and then don't stress the fact that the other guy didn't want to pay for proper insurance. That is on him, not you.

  7. Just adding my two cents in here..... not wanting to argue politics, but just want my voice out there.

Anyone who had any knowledge of Trump at all, knew he was a businessman not a politician. I didn't like the man from what I knew of him, he has a lot of flaws and I thought he was a pr--- , but yet I voted for him because I thought he was a better choice than Clinton..... a much better choice.

I still think he's a pig. But a patriotic pig. A pig who loves his country and wants the best for this nation. He still has flaws, but flaws and all - he is doing what he can to help this country.

I think we should keep him.

  8. You made my day JohnsonJones! Thank you!

I will add prison chaplain to the list of those who have been kind and helpful to me many, many, many years ago. (from a non LDS view)

I called him PC for years.  :-)

And Heather! She has put up with so much drama and trouble makers over the years!

    She's a gem!

    Advice from my experience:

Keep your records on Ancestry, using FamilySearch for temple work only.  Don't bother trying to "fix" records on FamilySearch.

I have to disagree with you Jane_Doe.      My family history on Family Search has gone ape crazy with non family members or shirttail family members putting in wrong information, and it's really discouraging to see erroneous info that gets passed on to future generations.

I also found somewhat of a cousin who put my uncle down as dead..... when he is alive and well. I  was able to change my uncles record so he lives again, I have also been able to correct records that were really messed up for older family members so they could be baptized or sealed together.

I have used my Ancestry account to help me fix my Family Search, and my FS to fix my Ancestry.

  10. A 26 year old missionary elder and I got to sit and talk awhile- he had lived a wild and hard life when he was a teenager and into his 20's.... he didn't want to stop. But then he kept getting these feelings that he needed to get his life together and go on a mission.  He got it together (which took awhile) and had to get special permission from upper Church leaders, and he went on his mission.   He didn't know what the urgency of a mission was for him..... he only knew that it was very important for the Lord to send him. He said that he didn't know what he was going to do when he completed his mission. But he knew something would work out for him. For the moment he was doing what the Lord wanted him to do.

I don't remember this Elder's name, but I will always remember our talk.

tell em while they live your house they abide by your rules... including standards of dress. once they move out then it's pretty much limited to strong advice and love.

My oldest daughter wanted a tongue stud (or whatever they called them 25 years ago), She knew the house rules- and when she was old enough to do what she wanted she bee lined down with her best friend to get her tongue pierced.  I thought it looked ridiculous,  she thought it was cool looking- the guys thought it was a come hither invitation. When she got serious with the man she married- he told her to get rid of that nasty looking thing. I smiled.

  12. Thank you ladies and gents- I do feel better after saying a little prayer then sitting down and basically typing out my testimony to send to him. Patience, love, kindness, boundaries and respect are all good things to keep in mind.

I know his pestering is done out of love trying to save my soul.

He called me (in tears) on a Thanksgiving day over 12 years ago begging me to leave the Church or I was going to Hell. I tried to assure him I was not leaving the Church nor was I going to Hell. He was desperate to keep me from the fire.  I know it was all in love.

You know something funny? Out of my four children, my Catholic son is the only one who calls or texts me to keep in contact. My two LDS girls normally call me only if they need something or need to vent about the other sibling(s).

Thanks again for the advice and support! :-)

  13. I didn't want to hijack another post with my son and his continued down beating of the LDS religion.

He just doesn't want to accept that there can be any other view, opinion, or truth. It is starting to hurt my heart that he just keeps pounding.

Is it a required Catholic stance to bombard others with a multitude of questions on top of questions?

I try to answer the ones that he can confirm in the Bible, and my common sense rebuttal on the obvious wrong statements.

Any help, advice or support would be welcome.

A common anti-mormon accusation is that we believe God literally had sex with Mary, so she wasn't a virgin.  And according to Catholics Mary never had any other children, and never had sex with Joseph.  She was virgin all her life.  It doesn't matter that the Bible says otherwise.

An actual Catholic doctrine that not  many know about is that May still had her hymen intact after giving birth.

This is exactly what my son came out with...... blew me away that they could actually believe that!

In any case, you don't have to refute anything they say.  You don't have to play "I can quote the Bible too" with them.  Spiritual learning doesn't happen unless the Holy Spirit is present.  Arguing over one's salvation doesn't invite the Spirit of Truth, it invites the Spirit of Contention.

True true true.... that's why I hit the Scriptures to fortify my spirit and feel closer to the Spirit and His guidance to share more of truth to my son without contention coming into the conversation.

What's the point of ranting about that?  That's not something we disagree on.

Not according to #1 son- he actually believe that WE believe Mary had sex or what he also called 'relations' with God, since we believe He has a body of flesh.

I have an idea that his father (my ex) has been filling him full of garbage since said ex left the Church and returned to the Catholic church years ago.

Catholics are generally very tolerant of other Christian religions. Remember it started as the true church. The doctrine is fairly close to ours.

I wouldnt look look for problems where there  may be none.

I wish my Catholic son was tolerant of my religion. He goes on a rant every couple of months about the LDS faith. He keeps saying that Catholics do NOT view "Mormons" as Christian. His latest rant is about Mary and how she became "with child" as a virgin.

My advice is to know what scriptures you can go to to help you prepare an answer that they can't refute. I actually found several Catholic websites that I refer to, to try and understand the why behind the accusations and statements of ire.

I just told my son yesterday..... he has a right to believe what he wants, but I still love him.

  18. My two cents: I too have softened my outlook on Trump after following and watching what he has done for this country since taking office. I was extremely skeptical on where our country would head with him in the Oval Office. I have never liked the man because of his ego- he does have a huge ego, but it is part of who he is. His language is vulgar, but it is part of who he is. Before I joined the Church, my language was just as bad as his- my kids knew when they pushed me too far.... potty mouth mom. Curbing my language was about as hard as giving up coffee.

But, Trump IS intelligent and he cares for his country more than the previous president did (IMHO). Wanting to keep his country and its citizens safe is commendable, standing for the flag and what it represents is commendable, loving his family is commendable.

When he got upset over the overpaid football players showing disrespect for our nations flag..... He stood up and said something, he stood up. Knowing he would give the media fuel to add to their burning of his character..... he stood up. He didn't bow, he didn't apologize for upset feelings over our flag... he stood up.

I'm really beginning to wonder if all of this isn't being stoked by the election of POTUS, and a visceral hatred towards him and all the "deplorables" who selected him. Perhaps the thinking is that if so many Americans are that wrong it's time to destroy the emblems, symbols and ceremonies.

They have already started..... They are trying as hard as they can to destroy them.

The Cowboys, including Jerry Jones, knelt right before the anthem was played.  Then they all stood for the anthem and locked arms.  Dunno what that actually meant.  I think the Cowboys, like a lot of NFL, are just pulling their hair out trying to figure out what to do with all this goopla.  I'd like to say it's NFL death throes.  But my die-hard football fan husband thinks this too will pass and it wouldn't be as bad as what happened to baseball after the strike.

From what I understand- the kneel before the anthem was for their brother players in other teams to show solidarity of some sort.

I had to laugh.... cause my die hard football fan husband is the same way. When we disagree on what game to watch....... I usually retreat to the bedroom and watch a hockey game. It's all good.
