WIth respect Mirkwood, this is a really dumb goal. Why would anyone ever be nice to Gator? New year's resolutions should be realistic

Actually, never mind. I'm taking that one for myself.

I tried fiction food once. It was a beautiful array, but it wasn't at all satisfying.

I'm still trying to figure out what's so special about mummies and their brains - which I thought were removed before mummification, so, you know, I'm thinking this is a reference to not having a brain.... It's all new to me.
I'm not into zombie stuff either - if they come to my door, I send them over to @mirkwood's.

mirkwood reacted to zil in Robbing a Gun Store
I suppose we should give them credit for not trying to rob a gun store that caters to law enforcement...
Speaking of Texas (I know the story wasn't Texas, but still), I had a coworker who had recently come up from Texas (reasons unclear), anyhoo, his bank down there had a sign on the door that read "Guns Welcome". IMO, that's far better (and more effective) than a sign saying "No Weapons".
(I was reminiscing about the good old days when our safety manual, yes, the one here at work, included a section about what to do in the event of a threat from an armed attacker with words to the effect: "If you're packing, lock and load but take no action except in self defense." Those really were the good old days - at any given moment, ~half the staff was armed.)

mirkwood reacted to prisonchaplain in Do you take all the Old Testament stories as literal?
I'm not sure if I understand what just transpired between @mirkwood and @MormonGator. After all, I thought they were the musical collaboration team that came up with the My Little Ponies all time greatest hit: Pink Fluffy Unicorn Dancing on Rainbow song... you know ... the one they use to break down terrorists at Gitmo.

mirkwood reacted to Just_A_Guy in Mormon Social Justice Warriors up in arms about the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
This is entertaining on so many levels, two of which are:
1) The thoroughly unsubstantiated suggestion of a collusion between McMullin and either Romney or Beck; and
2) The pirouette from Romney's and McMullin's representing "establishment Republicanism", to suddenly relegating them to outsider status and accusing them of plotting to "defeat the Republican Party".
Now, I'll grant you this much: There is an ideological conspiracy which runs afoul of Trump. The problem (for Trump) is that neither man nor devil was the author of that conspiracy.

Fairly sure there were plenty he could have gotten; Ted Nugent is still a big name, and I'm sure would have been highly honored to do his Star Spangled Banner guitar solo at the inauguration.
OTOH, I personally wouldn't mind seeing the whole thing done with just the Marine Band and one soloist for the anthem.

Or maybe (like a fairly large percentage of people outside the Church) he just likes their singing and knows they have a thing for patriotic songs. Sounds ideal for a Federal event.

Those guys need a hobby, like skipping through mine fields and licking 9 volt batteries, toss in stepping barefoot on legos for good measure.

Do not take away the agency and adulthood of your future wife. It's up to her to decide whether to love you and covenant to spend eternity with you. You don't get to dictate her feelings or capacity, though you can decide whether to give her a chance - so give her a chance. You may think you're just stating reality or sparing her or whatever. Do not use her potential troubles as an excuse to avoid potential failure.
James E. Faust, "Eternity Lies before Us"
In more than one place, prophets and apostles have taught this concept - usually directed at women. I haven't been noting them as I come across them until recently, but there are at least 3 more than this one.
As for why D&C 132 says what it says - for the same reasons other places say the same things - people didn't understand that the covenant must be made by mortals - it's describing people who had the option but declined to live the law. It is not describing people who lived the law in their hearts, desired more, but didn't have the option.

@Zarahemla, our God is a God of complete fairness. Why do you think He'll short change you at the chance to find a spouse?

Doctrine and Covenants 82: 10, "I the Lord am bound when ye do what I say, when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise." Marriage, for how young you are, shouldn't be a worry. You date, ask girls out (if you are old enough to serve a mission -- it helps with the ladies in Mormondom), court a girl if you see more of an interest and compatibility.
It is not just marriage, it is being able to make sure when you both stand before God that she still wants to be with you then when God gives her the question, "Do you really want to be with him for eternity."
