Here's an initial list though I'm sure there is more: Alma 37:6 by small and simple things are great things brought to pass D&C 90:24 Search diligently, pray always, and be believing, and all things shall work together for your good... D&C 122:7 ...all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good. Alma 34:31 ...if ye will repent and harden not your hearts, immediately shall the great plan of redemption be brought about unto you. Matt 17:20 If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.2 points

Big Budget Movies
NeuroTypical reacted to Ironhold for a topic
Speaking as an entertainment writer? Production Budget x 2.5 = the approximate break-even point for a movie after all costs are factored in and the theaters & distributors take their cut. The expectation is that if a movie is a big enough spectacle people the world over will automatically turn out to see it. Certain countries, like China, have audiences that are especially receptive to big-budget Hollywood numbers. The problem is that the budgets are getting to be unsustainable, especially with China no longer a sure market and Covid having caused large numbers of people to get used to pay-per-view and streaming.1 point -

Bumping - Got to checking the church website for some older Conference talks, and found that they have video of individual Conference talks going back to 1971. https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/1971/04/love-of-the-right?lang=eng Curious now as to what audio or video recordings the church has managed to preserve in a state that they can be uploaded later on.1 point -
Trump (Or any Subject) Derangement Syndrome
NeuroTypical reacted to Carborendum for a topic
It wasn't. If. The fact that he did this 6 times over the course of days tells me that he was not remorseful. The CA just wanted to use some excuse to let him go. There was no court. When it was done completely at prosecutorial discretion means that it was all during an interview between the CA and the criminal. I envision that he just said "wink-wink" and the CA said, "Ok." If you don't believe me, consider the reactions from the police. I submit: This was not a "low-level offense". By statute $10,000 of property damage is considered a felony with minimum of 5 years prison. This guy did over $20,000 worth of damage. He should have gotten a lot more. Instead, he basically got nothing. He may not even have to pay the victims back. No financial restrictions, no garnishments, no payment schedule. The words they've said so far is just fluff -- no legal mechanism requiring him to do so. Let's see, the guy commits vandalism in a political cause against the Trump administration, and the CA already said was not going prosecute this crime. But you wonder if he might get fired as a DHS worker in a liberal state and city? You do know what the DHS does, right? I'd hope that the sane population of Minnesota begins to vote with their feet. Let them rot in their leftist terrorist juices. They wanted a world where all the wealth producers would no longer exist, a world where crimes against political opponents went unpunished, and allowing people to keep the fruits of their labor is considered hoarding. Fine, we'll give you that world by leaving. See how you do without us. Galt's Gulch.1 point -

Dylan Bryan Adams will not be criminally charged for causing over $20,000 in property damage to Teslas in Minneapolis. The County Attorney claims this is common for property damage crimes, even though the felony level begins at $10,000 according to Minnesota Law. And it carries a minimum of 5 years in prison at that level. I wonder if they were letting him go because he was white.1 point -
Am I alone in believing this way??

A significant component of what makes men men and women women comes from our physical makeup, a physical makeup that happens to be in a fallen state. It's hard to know how similar or dissimilar that makes us from how we are spiritually or how we'll be in the resurrection and what role that will play at judgement day. It's true that women, in general, seem to come by certain divine qualities more naturally than men but is that because women are simply more spiritually advanced in those areas or because God made it so to make His plan work?1 point -
I don't know anything about celestial demographics. If plural marriage is practiced in the eternities, it is because it is a true principle. But my observation as a father, a husband, a brother, a son, an uncle, a nephew, and a friend is that I really don't think men are all that spectacularly worse than women. In fact, I'm not sure they're worse even as a group. I will be the first to proclaim that women are amazing. But honestly, so are men. When I think of the very best people I have ever known in my life, I think of at least as many men as women. I'm thinking that the male sex has gotten a bad rap, much worse than women, and probably not fully deserved. Men are given the Priesthood. Some have characterized this as a crutch, something given men because they need an extra boost compared to naturally more righteous women. I think that's bogus. I believe that God allows men to hold His Priesthood because He has confidence in His sons and expects them to do a great work. I think this is a doctrine that we should teach our sons, and also our daughters.1 point

Whining about giving talks

Wasn't that Hugh Nibley's son who wrote that as a child?1 point -
I’ve mentioned this before but the idea that women are more holy than men was shoved down our throats growing up. At our confirmation the bishop (roughly equal to SP) ranted about boys being out of control and women being pure and innocent. I can give more examples too. Amazingly, Catholic leaders in the 90’a would bash men constantly then complain about no man wanting to be a priest. Think hard guys. Real hard.1 point

Whining about giving talks
Vort reacted to NeuroTypical for a topic
In the spirit of @Ironhold's method of dealing with talks, I actually keep a link on my phone in case a Bishop (or President Nelson) surprises me with a last-minute request to speak publicly. It's doctrinally sound, written to be easily understandable by most audiences, and I've never seen a group of humans who couldn't do with internalizing it's advice a bit more. Ten bucks says even if I delivered the talk to the Quorum of the 12, they'd chuckle and someone would say "that's a good message, I need to keep working on that." I'll just change the name to whoever is asking me to talk: https://thoughtsofmark.blogspot.com/2006/04/when-anthony-preaches-when-anthony.html1 point -

It's also the whole "the powers that be say it must be done on this schedule, so it will be done on this schedule" mindset coupled with the often inferior quality of products they have access to and the lack of training & education that many of their laborers have. They can build massive highways and entire cities in short order, only for those places to either go unused because the powers-that-be misread the population movement trends or crumble around everyone because they were churned out too fast for the materials to properly set up.1 point -

We call it the 80/20 rule: 80% of the work is done by the same 20% of the people. Sometimes we call it the 90/10 rule.1 point

Perhaps in today's world (literally 2025), we women are the first to see that this statement isn't as true as it once might have been? Alternately, the comment can be made empty when spoken by a man who otherwise shows little to no interest in hearing anything a woman has to say. If they are so much more faithful, then why on Earth would you refuse to consider what they have to say? Back to that "perhaps", @Carborendum recently mentioned a study showing that for the first time, men outnumber women in the Church (I think the stat was for us, but maybe it was for Christianity). He, and others (I've seen the same study discussed on X), seemed to assume that the stat indicated women were leaving the Church faster than men. But I wondered whether it might indicate that men, who have been disenfranchised by the world, are now flocking to the Church as the only place where they are appreciated, whereas the women of the world would not be flocking to the Church, thus the imbalance. Alas, I don't know the source of the graphic / info, so I can't go research the data behind it. FWIW1 point

Trump and I must have watched the same Law & Order episode back 25 years ago. Everyone hated the new managing partner, and was preparing to oust him. Before they got their dirty tricks underway, he called an emergency meeting. He revealed that he had landed a surprise account for the guy who hated him most. He then said something about pulling a few strings to get a judge to okay an appeal that would put them back on the map in the legislation world. Then he pulled out a stack of envelopes and passed them around, saying these were their Christmas bonuses. A confused partner said "I thought we were circling the drain and couldn't afford bonuses this year." He replied that he had started shopping around for cheaper office space. When the partner started to get mad, he said "relax, we're not going anywhere. But just the threat that we might, brought the building manager to the table and I renegotiated our yearly lease down by enough to get us all bonuses." Someday I might actually read his 'art of the deal' book.0 points -

For some reason, this reminded me of an incident with my third son maybe fifteen years ago. We were reading as a family in Matthew 7, and he read v. 16: "Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?" But instead of reading the question as two independent rhetorical questions, my son with his vocal inflections read it as a choice: Do men gather grapes of thorns, or do they gather figs of thistles instead? I burst out laughing, and still chuckle to myself when I think about it.0 points

I have thought that I was in the third category. But after pondering this thread, I believe I'm in a different category. I will try to volunteer, but things get in the way. e.g.: Church cleanup assignments. Some interesting things happened. They didn't expect me, so they sent me home since all the assignments were taken care of. I arrive only to find no one has a key to the doors. I arrive only to find that we're out of most of the regular cleaning supplies. I tell them that I can go to the store and get some for the week. They agree. When I get back from the store, everyone is gone and the building is locked. I arrive and find out that there was a major water main that had burst and was flooding a certain area of town. We have no water at the building. I really am cursed in this regard.0 points -
