I bought a Garmin GPS several years age. It advertised free software updates. I updated it a year ago with no problem. This time when I tried to update, had no success. I contacted garmin and they said that I needed new drivers that I would have to pay for. I protested that I had been promised free updates but they claimed that a driver was new hard wear! I have seen some drivers online but I am nervous about loading new drivers and causing a problem because my only computer is one that I use for work. Can anyone make a suggestion? Thank you!

@Morgaine I am so sorry. I was married to a man for 24 years who had a lot of issues, refused to get treatment and eventually became violent. I wish that I had left when he refused to get treatment. I would get counselling yourself. Go see the bishop. This is not the time to be brave and try to struggle alone. If your family and friends don’t know what you are going through tell them. You need their support. Have you put your name down at the temple? Good luck!

Absolutely! Just walk into the nearest ward. If people ask, just tell them you were inactive for awhile. Happens all the time! At some point, the ward clerk will find you and ask you where your last ward was so that he can send away for your records. I did this myself. Inactive for decades. No sweat!

Carb! Hallowe’en is coming up! Be nice to the tricker treaters! 🎃 Seriously, my sister used to work in the Emergncy of a notorious American Hospital. For a Canadian this was a mind blowing baptism of fire. My sister could not afford to quit and some of the nursing staff were practically psychopaths. One nurse would torture my sister with stories about sitting on her front porch with a rifle shooting cats. My family used to have meals in which we speculated if this could be true. Can you really sit on your front porch in the US and shoot cats? We would wonder. David Sedaris has a famous short story in which he claims that the blind are allowed to go hunting in Michigan so.. maybe?

Cool! Thanks so much. I had not found this feature before you mentioned it.

I am not sure about the definition of socialism. Everything run by the state? Wiki says: Socialism is a range of economic and social systems characterised by social ownership and workers' self-management of the means of production[10] as well as the political theories and movements associated with them.[11]Social ownership may refer to forms of public, collective or cooperative ownership, or to citizen ownership of equity.[12] There are many varieties of socialism and there is no single definition encapsulating all of them,[13] though social ownership is the common element shared by its various forms.[5][14][15] So by that definition, the liberals are not socialist. I find it really annoying that some people have a tendency to see those who do not share their political views as being: corrupt, venial, even evil. It is perfectly possible for reasonable and well meaning people to have a different political view. It is not necessary to assume that other parties are motivated by insanity or malice.

@Petty3 Hi there! Sorry that you are going through this! You have received some great advice above! Love the fun volunteering suggestion. Good luck. Did you put your name down at the temple?

Dear @SpiritDragon Thanks for posting! I heard about this. Nuts. The issue was dealt with but..,What’s up with the training that those teachers are receiving? Quite a problem going on there! The history that I learnt in ON was so scrubbed free of controversy that it was agony to try to learn it! How times have changed. In ON we just dumped the new Sex Ed curriculum. This topic is sensitive for most people. You really can’t win. I remember an Lds friend being really angry that her children were taught that masterbation was beneficial. Hard to win on that in the current climate. I went in search of sex Ed at about age 14 because my parents were too strung out to even attempt. I ended up with Planned Patenthood. Bless them. They were wonderful. I guess if I were tasked with this, I would try just to teach facts. I would be boring. Mind you I am pretty boring now! Some are born boring. Some achieve boring and some have boring thrust apon them! To my ever living shame, I can’t believe that I did this, I got very annoyed with a student who claimed that I had not taught him a legal concept that was on an exam. Must calm down! Sigh.

@isacarrot Great idea for sorting promises. Am I blind? Where is 2 Nephi? No promises there?

Yes! I personally choose to roll with the times...stops me from being ‘a sit on the porch with rocking chair, rifle on my knee’ sort of person.

My mother used to work for the March of Dimes. I am not sure if this charity still exists but it helped the handicapped. In my life time the word for handicapped has moved from: crippled to handicapped to disabled to special and now I am not sure what the term is. The office that used to be called Special services is now Accessibility Services. I have been sending people who need these services to an office that keeps changing its name for 12 years! Some inconvenience but you know what? I have noticed that the self image of ‘special’ students has dramatically evolved over the years! Now these students are fighters! Changing the language is a mark of respect and it does help the historically disadvantaged. We need to move with the times as the language changes or else we end up sitting on the porch telling people to get off our lawns! I was the first female financial analyst in my part of Canada Post. The marketing managers (all male, the women were not promoted) would express their contempt for me by staring fixedly at my chest during meetings. At social events, the male managers would subject me to a constant attack of dirty jokes. My male colleagues would tell obscene stories while I worked beside them. Meetings in my department were peppered with obscenities. My corporate manager referred to women as Babes. He informed the female managers that he would never promote a female any higher. My boss called me into his office one day to declare that there was no sexism in our department after one of the managers insulted a pregnant employee declaring that he could not believe that we hired a pregnant employee. Changing the vocabulary does a lot of good.

Glad to get some clarification! I have recently been interviewed by a number of doctors and I have had to explain the non drinking thing. I just gave the name of the church because I was not sure about the noun that described me. I was being interviewed by a doctor recently who kept asking me about my level of alcohol consumption and refused to believe that I did not consume alcohol. I explained that this was a religious tenet. THIS she refused to believe and she then wanted to know what religion. Very odd woman. I told her that I was Christian and she protested that Catholics drank. I gave her the name of the church but she found it very difficult to believe that a Christian did not drink. If I were to guess her religion, I might have guessed Muslim. Perhaps some Muslim women have a low opinion of Christian behaviour? This is the second female doctor, one definitely muslium and the second possible, who has had a hard time believing the religious non drinking role. I wonder what they are taught about Christianity?

Less garlic makes it easier to coax gf out of hiding place and down the stairs...and if she could smell your breathe from the top of the stairs...that’s a lot of garlic!

😢 But why do we have to forgo watching a movie just because it is inferior to the best of all possible movies? The new version may be better in some aspects,. This Mary seems to be tart and thus more like the book version!

But there will be a Mary Poppins movie out at Xmas!
